I hated the show back in the 90s, because I disliked most of the characters and wasn't able to see past the missed opportunities.

However, I am currently using IMDB to find all episodes with a decent average rating, and I am watching those episodes on Amazon prime. And, I have to admit, now that I am no longer prone to nerd-rage, I think quite a few of the individual episodes and two-parters are actually rather enjoyable.

Is not taking things seriously anymore a sign of growing up? <-- This is not a rhetorical question. I really don't know. I am really wondering why some things that I just accept nowadays used to upset me so much 20 years ago...

Hmmm. I just hope that I will get ridiculously emotionally invested in a TV show one of these days in order to regain my sanity!

Any recommendations? I'm game as long as it doesn't involve dragons or pathetic soft porn for prudes.

In Future's End they go back in time and it's explicitly stated that the only reason the microprocessor revolution happened was because that douche CEO got his hands on the time ship. So how could the microprocessor have also been invented when it was in JJTrek if, in order for the time ship to go back to 20th century Earth, Voyager needed to both exist and be stranded in the Delta Quadrant to kick off the string of events in the first place.

I tend to skip the time travel stories. However, the one in which they fought the Nazis in America had a certain trashy charm, I think.

Pretty sure that was Enterprise. You're in the wrong thread.

Ah, crap, you're right.

I was thinking of aliens turning the ship into a giant holo-deck and then role-playing as Nazis with the Voyager crew as victims. Because, naturally, that did happen.

Which episode was that? I remember the one where Tuvok had made a holodeck program stimulating a mutiny on board, and the one where Species 8472 made a replica Starfleet Academy to practice taking over Earth, but not nazis.

I just did a little resarach. It's called The Killing Game: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0394913/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1

The epsioded really has it all: Aliens, Nazis and aliens posing as Nazis. Actually, I might just watch that one again tonight.

That was a cool episode imo.
It was. Nazis (including the Nazi timeline) and Star Trek go together like strawberries and cream.

A lot of people in the comment section got really, really angry about Beltran, too. It's amazing how many people apparently take this poo poo seriously.

I mean, I find Star Trek enjoyable enough, but obviously playing one of these cardboard characters for years and saying mostly the same stock phrases ("shields are down", "unidentified vessel approaching", "the transporter/holo-deck/warp drive is malfunctioning", etc) over and over again must be rather frustrating for a trained actor. (Though I guess the paycheck more than made up for it).

It's one thing to have a laugh about space elves and such but I think you could show some appreciation to the fans that made you a millionaire. He never has to work another day in his life and he just says 'gently caress you' to the people who made it possible which seems arrogant and ungrateful. Before Star Trek, Beltran's biggest claim to fame was some direct to video Chuck Norris movie.

I see what you mean, but for me it doesn't matter what he thinks about the show, as long as I can get some enjoyment out of it when I am watching it.

In most interview situations, actors will try to sell you whichever product it is they just made. Be it on a DVD-extra, in a late-night show, or whatever; they will always say the things they are contractually obliged to say: How much fun it was, how great everybody else was, how much real artistic vision went into the production, etc... It's just tedious and pointless, and I find Beltran's attitude in the interview refreshing because he knowingly does all the things he is not supposed to. (Apart from that, I don't remember him ever being memorable during the entire show anyway, so maybe that is why I have no problems with him taking the piss.)

Anyway, back to "Dark Frontier part 2", because I don't even remember if Beltran was even in that episode.

By season 4, his job was basically delivering one line per episode.

Yeah, he just had his five seconds in the sun in this episode, saying that Seven of Nine's parents had made the mistake of getting overconfident. Incidentally, this information added nothing to the story, because by the time he said that there had already been about a dozen flash backs that showed how ridiculously careless Seven's parents were around the Borg.

edit: It's still preferable to stuff like
