VD lets you put the screen anywhere at any angle if you set it to floating. Setting it to the ceiling while lying down on the couch to watch a movie is amazing. I bound a key to reset the position to my universal remote, but I really wish they would add Vive controller support.

BossTweed posted:I played around in Destinations for a few minutes. It seems like a pretty nice setup for people to build their own little worlds for you to explore. They let you control how people move within the world you build (free teleport or teleport to little destination pads), support an easy way to have a floating information popup that can describe where you are, and you can give things animation that can be triggered by your location. I am wondering how complex the animations and triggers can be. They seem to have ported over a lot of the entity system from Source 1, including a bunch of Half-Life 2 specific entities (that probably don't work in the actual game). You probably could build quite complicated scenes, maybe even some simple interactive games.

There is not much content for it yet though, so you'd have to hope someone creates a beach for it (or make one yourself).

Overlay update. For some reason shrinking down the window does wonders to the FPS. It's also possible to run multiple overlays at once, by running multiple instances of the program. Now you too can watch top tier animes and reading shitposts while flying your spaceship.

They said that Elite has issues due to its Engine not being Unity/Unreal so its taking them a bit longer to get it working. Probably the same reason it isn't working for Rift in Elite either which is unfortunate. The issue is probably just that Elite tries to use the Oculus runtime over SteamVR when it detects a Rift. Ironically the Revive injector might help it run on the rift. Rectus fucked around with this message at 10:17 on Jul 23, 2016 |

There's some survival but you can choose how much survival down to just having no resources and you can just build whatever you want and look at things. Aside for occasional framerate lag it's a really good VR game.

The base would have to be mounted in place so it can't move so the zero point would be accurate, but I can't think of any reason why it wouldn't work. I don't see why they wouldn't be. You could probably even use them as free six axis controllers by setting a reference point when you pull the trigger, and measuring how much you've moved it.

Tom Guycot posted:That game looks amazing and I can't wait to play it, but as well as that mode of locomotion looks to work, its pretty niche. It's hard to see 'zero g confined spaces with a lot to grab onto' as a big genre. Even without zero g, grabbing onto things is really intuitive and easy to implement. You get some really fine control on how you move relative to the environment. I even managed to sort of implement by accident in Destinations with the barnacle grapple. It could be useful as a secondary locomotion mode. Imagine having it in something like Onward, where you have to peek and shoot a lot around corners and over cover, but you can't lean on it in reality. You could grab onto the cover and pull yourself just to the right position without having to crouch or stand in a tedious position.

I wonder if it would be viable to find a comfortable helmet, and mount the HMD on it on a hinge. You would probably have to remove the hood from it to get it close enough, but ti wouldn't need to be pressed up to your face anymore, so it would be possibly be a lot more comfortable.
