Because not only have the billions of dollars the Department of Transportation had earmarked for infrastructure maintenance been poached by other agencies (putting us in an almost insurmountable hole), but high-speed rail would cost a further $150 billion to implement. So unless Congress can agree to cut Defense in half and repair the roads and bridges, it's never going to happen. So it's never going to happen.

i am pretty sure that when people in japan or wherever embrace their high speed trains it is a tragedy for their family and tremendous inconvenience to everyone else do not embrace high speed vehicles OP

Heavily congested commute routes getting toll express lanes added and managed by for profit companies that take the majority of the profits (just like traffic camera management companies).
