Oh, it looks like the characters on the show had a special British way of saying it, and that's what he was doing. Which is weird, given his rant about "aluminium" in this same episode.

It's dumber than that - it was originally named "aluminum" by Humphrey Davy, who was British. Then other Brits later decided that it didn't sound enough like a metal, so they added a letter. It's extremely silly, given that none of them had any problem with "platinum".

I didn't really understand why they chose to do The Girl on the Train. Seemed to me like it's a pretty unremarkable thriller, there's nothing really ridiculous (or even noteworthy) about it.

I bet they watched the 80 minute movie on amazon, looked up the popular highlights to criticize and called it a day!

this has been another edition of padijun's podcast conspiracy theory corner

but for serious, the movie's on amazon prime streaming, if for some reason anyone wants to watch it after having the whole thing spoiled: https://www.amazon.com/Girl-Train-Henry-Ian-Cusick/dp/B00V0IUG5U/

also, collision mentioned the band red fang, watch this:

Yeah, it wasn't even worth a dramatic reading. What kind of awfulness were they expecting, and why?

I just started listening to this podcast, but I think I'm going to skip the Stranger in a Strange Land ep because I have vague but good memories of reading it at 14 and don't want them shattered.

I suspect they just wanted something light to read and picked something currently popular thinking they might hit another Dan Brown and instead got something not really worth hating. Even at the end, they said that book was perfectly okay.

I can't really blame them for taking a stab at getting listeners through a popular book.

Book was super not suited for their format, but I enjoy their banter about dumb poo poo i personally don't enjoy, so it was still enjoyable.

Yeah and he was getting salty about people joking about their pronunciations and then went into a whole thing about how their podcast is harder to make than a lot of others because they read a book. And like...sure, but a) that doesn't mean other podcasts are worse and b) chill the gently caress out.

He seems like a super nice guy and he's funny, but yeah sometimes twitter isn't really the best platform for him.

I come here to joke about the correct pronunciation of poirot. There are people who get in a direct line of contact to send him 10 pages (inc. diagrams) about why his pronunciation of aluminum, which was an obvious goof, was wrong. I can't even imagine dealing with people like that on a daily basis. And ultimately, he just expressed bewilderment, conceded the insane person was probably operating in good faith, but asked people not to do it. I would call it the mildest twitter meltdown of all time.

Oh word? I didn't see the offending tweets, so if it's actually tenacious insufferable douchebags flooding his mentions then fair enough.

Anyway, episode was dece but you can tell there wasn't really a huge amount for them to work with. Hopefully we're back to true crap in the next episode!

They do that on the podcast too though. They're like "Oh we don't care, don't tell us when we say stuff wrong" but the way they go on and on and on about it suggests that actually they do care a lot.

He said this will be his first single Christmas, so sometime earlier this year.

Djeser, all of this is on his Twitter page, he clearly doesn't have a problem with people knowing about it.

This was a good one. Since the book had basically no substance to speak of, the conversation was a lot more free-flowing and causal. It almost felt like a very laid-back Flop House episode.

Looking forward to the NaNoWriMo music and to maybe someday eventually finding out just what happened to JW at Chuck E. Cheese's. :stare:

I think J has mentioned that he sees the Flop House as his main inspiration, so it's cool to see him emulating his idols in a unique way.

It was a very nostalgic episode for me. Made me remember requesting a huge list of Goosebumps and Animorphs paperbacks at a school bookfair. :allears:
