Frankie Boyle's piece makes a good point that the referendum campaign from the Remain group has been the economic case for staying in the EU even though there's a difference between a common market and a political union. He's not arguing for leave, by the way, just pointing out that it's a bit of a weird thing to campaign on when there could be a positive case made for the political union bit.

Can anyone explain the whole Kipper thing about some Kinnock conspiracy theory re. the EU? I keep seeing it crop up e.g. quote:I thought you would not want to be tied into a corrupt organisation that has not even had its accounts signed off for about 25 years, it is so bad. Neil Kinnock was supposed to sort it out and sacked the first whistleblower!!! Do we need to say more. The Kinnocks have ripped us off via EU for decades

I haven't noticed people being coy at all. It's single issue: Immigrants are ruining the country and are responsible for everything wrong. They'll gladly destroy their own lives and economic security to punish these fuckers. They might regret it in a year but right now they're all for going down in one giant fireball in order to kill the immigrant scourge and make the smoking ruins of Britain great again. I wonder how much better this country would be if it wasn't ruined by one of the vilest press machines in modern history. So many of the things wrong with our society is down to a hostile narrative kept simmering by the rags. I wonder if the concept of freedom of the press was ever meant to co-exist with such viralant hateful propaganda. Regarde Aduck fucked around with this message at 10:22 on Jun 2, 2016 |

Doesn't ring a bell. Oh, also the Tories' shitbag attempt to block the investigation into South Thanet has thankfully been struck down (via a granting of extension). The only problem here is this might mean Nigel Fromage has a legitimate reason to re-campaign and get into parliament, also giving him access to the Short money that he so griftingly craves.

It's not freedom of the press. The press is monopolised and primarily in the hands of three families, two of them landed gentry and the other an Australian billionaire. All three of which heavily lean upon editorial output. The other papers - think the Express and the Indie, likewise. Pravda was just as free of a press.

Whether anyone pays attention to them or whether that will just lead to people being stuck in their own filter bubbles I don't know though. e: Speaking of the press and things that get filtered out, I wouldn't have heard about this at all if I were just relying on print media and didn't get linked it by a friend; it seems to have been made into a non-story by the trad. press. https://thesecretbarrister.com/2016/05/27/its-official-the-criminal-justice-system-is-broken-and-no-one-seems-to-care/

If that's the one that came up very recently in the Paedogeddon thread then there's a bit more to it than that, like it not being certain whether the pictures that he had were even indecent at all, let alone child abuse.

Obviously money and being Cameron's pig loving buddy. Do we know what they actually claimed in court? I don't think 'Your honour my client has put his penis in a dead pig' holds up in court regardless of how much they want it to. Also I'm very unfamiliar with the English justice system so it might, I guess?
