??? The DiC Dub for all it's terrible editing does use "In the Name of the Moon".

But wow, stuff like this and some of Touhou's literal translation of puns is why I roll my eyes at literalists.

Man, The Pirates of Dark Water was so cool, but they never finished the show, story aside, just the general aesthetics wasn't like anything else on TV - and the ships were just amazing.

I think least for me and lot of other girls at the time is this was a show where the girls did all the fighting and protecting, when other shows you have maybe at best two token female members at best and tend to get kidnapped/put in distress more than the guys.

As a shameless Sailor Moon cosplayer/fanboy, I'll be looking forward to seeing where this thread goes. Also, for those curious, the current ongoing anime remake is pretty decent and follows the manga a lot more closely than the 90s anime does, for better or worse.

the first season got off to a pretty terrible start - lots of off-model/terrible animation - and the BD "Fixes" ended up looking worse and Usagi ended up coming off as self-centered and obsessive - but I've been hearing they been improving it a lot since then.

the episodes were web-only, and it was pretty clear it was rushed to cash in on the anniversary of the series, thus a lot of animation errors and other wonkiness that should've been caught on the first pass - if that, given some studios now seem to have a "We'll fix it in BD" mentality.

Small stable of voice-actors, and it seems like they like to link Kansai accents to either Brooklyn or Texas, so if a character's speaking with a far more noticeable accent in the dub, it's trying to localize a regional accent.

I always thought the so-called DBZ vs Sailor Moon rivalry was weird as gently caress? They're not even the same type of shows (if anything Samurai Troopers/Ronin Warriors would be a closer contrast to Sailor Moon)

If I recalled correctly lot of the people working on the anime did not like Mamoru for reasons (the one who's better known for Utena was a hardcore UsagiRei shipper) or had no idea what to do with him, so he got stuck in a rut.

Why focus on Spider-Man when the same show had The Punisher and Carnage. A serial killer with knife-hands and Frank Castle ...didn't quite mesh well with 90s cartoon censorship.

Meanwhile, Batman could punch anyone he wanted. Different networks. Different standards.

or the Living Vampire couldn't bite people or take blood, he had to take "Plasma" through holes in his hands. There were some really weird workarounds.

I don't think Mackenzie became that popular a name when they were dubbing it, so Mariah might be a better fit.

The kicker was making Mamoru/Endyimon's name the same in the dub. "Who is the Prince Damien? Oh, it's this guy, named Damien."

Though glad the dub closed the age gap between Usagi and Mamoru so it ends up being less creepy.

and Happarosai in Ranma 1/2, creepy old perverts was extremely common in 90s/early 00s anime - I'm glad at least for all the faults that the creepy old perverts aren't treated as light comedy anymore.

Given how spergy GameFAQ writers can be, a ROM format means someone can rip it open to look at the code, and the general low-effort feel of the game, I wouldn't be surprised if that's the only attack that has a debuff effect.

Season 1 of Crystal really was the epitome of "Eh, We'll fix it on blu-ray./DVD" - animation for series can be frenetic and breakneck so things going off model can be expected, for Crystal, it felt like they didn't even try, as it was more off-model than on.

Have to agree - that works with books because the space between the point to be elaborated on, and the elaboration is within the same view, so it's very quick to go back and look it up, with the essentially limitless space an update has, it'll just get lost in the shuffle.

For me, fell in with bunch of other middle schoolers/late elementary school kids on some AOL kids site, into chatrooms, and the Outers were just being introduced in the states - some of the other girls were throwing bunch of rumors since we knew there was editing, lot of "Haruka's a hermaphrodite" and there was a lot of "Eeeeew Lesbians!", which made me really uncomfortable as it felt ridiculous to me that there was something wrong with two people being in love.

Ended up distancing myself from these 'friends', and being angry/disgusted by bigotry before I really knew what it was.

(I figured out I was bisexual later, but at the time I don't think it was a factor in my disgust towards these girls)
