there are a lot of games that contain little repeatable actions that feel good every time you do them, and i wanted to make a thread cataloging them. i called them Goomba Stomps because its the first one i thought of, how ive probably stomped 10000000000 goombas in my lifetime and it always feels awesome, the little squish effect, the fact that it maintains your forward momentum and you can fly off of them like springs. Bellisimo! some other examples i can think of: - nailing a sick drift on a hairpin turn in burnout - getting a critical strike in dragon quest (earthbound has a good one too) - doing a visceral attack in bloodborne - getting a OHKO with the baseball bat in any smash game - pulling a pikmin out of the ground -tying my shoelaces on the first try -when i get the last corrin amiibo at toys r us -whenever i get an uber in tf2 (seriously. ive had ubers that were so well timed they've literally brought me out of a depression.) - knocking an iron knuckles helmet off with the vertical parry in Wind Waker - tony hawk kickflips -firing a double shotgun, elephant gun, or magnum -Nailing a guitar solo in Rock Band -getting a 1 tap kill in counter strike. -getting a aerial goal in rocket league - when i see another dollar in my bank account from my sucessful indie game called I AM A loving MORON or be I AM A GODDAMN IDIOT -landing a direct rocket or grenade, bonus points for gibs - tying a fulton - CQC slam - CQC combo - Fulton - Quick Dive (my favorite) - seeing an enemy sniper -sprinting in mgs5 -diving off of buildings and ledges so that snake does a sweet rear end roll when he lands -fus ro dah -In ssx tricky when the music would get quiet until you landed your trick -Rocket jumping in quake rocket arena - when i loving forget the fact that my life is loving poo poo and im a loving 28 year old virgin with a dead end life for an hour because of a video game. -killing a herd of cows with lightning fury Amazon in Diablo 2 - swinging the whip midair in a Classicvania -Jumping through flying assholes with the varia suit - the spin in Mario Galaxy 1/2 -hearing the shell horn after solving a puzzle in la mulana -drifting the perfect amount of time for a boost in Mario or sonic kart - hitting L when it's not your turn in Mario Party - paradigm shifting - the way cacodemons die in doom - the noise the plasma gun makes -Super shotgun reload -M1 Garand ping noise -the screw attack -Siegfried or astaroths big wind up attacks in soul caliber - the quad damage noise - powerstanced large clubs - the noises in balloon fight - skooshing the little professor guy in gyromite -Backdashing in Castlevania -disintegration in jedi knight 2/jedi academy -Rolling in zelda -confirmation sound when an Amiibo hits the pad/3ds - MK uppercut - eeking out the last bit of your stamina for a kill in souls - neck snap in mgs, knock in mgs, whole mgs series - a new feature in your game working on first compile - running over someone in gta - 3d mario side somersault - a brutal beating in gang beasts -Mario 64 Triple Jump -Mario 64 Wall Jump -Mario 64 Backflip -getting a meteor smash off in smash bros -hooking someone as Roadhog -launching an enemy in wonderful 101 -ending an aerial combo with the tombstone in wonderful 101 -negative splitting in a racing sim and the feeling of the car getting lighter as the fuel tank gets emptier :-) -nailng a tough wall jump or shinespark in super metroid - flying with the cape in smbw - iframes in dodge animations in souls games - hammer in halo 3 - being stoned and playing oblivion -landing a lv.3 charged greatsword hit in monster hunter -smacking a monster head w/ the hammer/hunting horn -knowing monster hunter generations is out next loving month -Pulling the plunger on a pinball machine. -watching your screen fill up with platinum medals on the stage clear screen in bayonetta -the bayonetta dodge, but especially bat within -Hitting the damage limit in any RPG. -Getting a 4 clear with the straight block -Killing a contract monster in witcher 3 and seeing the knife cutscene. - Adam Jensen eviscerating a prostitute with his arm blades -wall jumping in super metroid, or any game really -the infinite morphball jump -tossing a decoy in the middle of a group of guards and deploying it in mgsv -reflex airblasting a soldier rocket in tf2 -perfect parry on all of monsoons attacks -firing the plasma beam in Metroid Prime -the boost ball in the prime games -Killing someone in Splatoon with the Kraken. - Stopping the kraken -Mega Max X - the fully upgraded X Buster -falling off a platform and then jumping in mid air, specifically DKC -Launching bitches with reel in kicks in Just Cause -Chaining Soul Voices in Xenoblade -"Let's-a-go" "Okey dokey" when you start a fight in the original Mario & Luigi -doing the anti-grav jump in symphony of the night to knock the last collectible out of the librarian's butt - getting the full corner carry air combo with Millia and nailing the qcfHS to start the next mix up -smashing through a wall to hit a guy on the other side with the sledgehammer in red faction guerilla -Smashing some gently caress into a wall face first in The Warriors, and also bresking a bottle on someones head and then stabbing them in the guts with it -Picking up gems in Spyro. -car bombs in mercenaries -Pogo Sticking in shovel Knight -opening the 25th lootcrate -when the GTA sharkcard hits your bank account -unlocking a crate in Tf2 (rip lol) -when your bank account clears the transaction and 140 steam trading cards finally hit your inventory -Getting a really long chain attack in the original xenoblade -Solving a riddler trophy in Arkham Knight -Cutting the grass in link between worlds -critical headshot in RE4 -The suplex - using the RE4 rocket launcher -KOing someone with B-up as Luigi -rolling through a pile of barrels in a souls game -Thundershock in pokemon red/blue -Switching to the trick form of your weapon in bloodborne - action hijack in Sleeping Dogs -The double. Two quick ones - in NBA2k2, doing a drop step with like kevin garnett or lamar odom and dunking from near the free throw line -crazy dashing in Crazy Taxi. Unnnnngh -lots of stuff in spelunky, but shotgun blasts, sticking a bomb on something, killing a shopkeep -whipping a spear out of the air -weapons that pin enemies to walls, such as the hl2 crossbow -The cerebral bore from Turok 2 -FEARs shotgun and penetrative spike gun - shooting a rail gun. It's extremely hard for a game to gently caress up this Goomba Stomp so I will include it as a blanket entry - using dual redire and the magnetic glyph to fly at the top 95% of the screen without the fly glyph and at turbo speed in Order of Ecclesia -Melting's corpse explosion in Nuclear Throne. -Sleeping dogs: the leg snap move and everyone's reaction to it. Also environment attacks. Also everything, that game is the poo poo -Killer instinct: the announcer yelling when you do an ultra combo or combo breaker -Shadow of the colossus: stabbing a weak point (this can also feel bad though) -Shooting a grenade out of an enemies hand or off their belt, shooting a rocket out of the air, noscope sniper rifle head shots -Zooming across the screen with Psycho Crusher in SF2: Turbo -firing the MG in snake eater until naked snake starts screaming -corpse stomping in dead space -successfully using a dragon punch when standing up in a fighting game -Hitting every crossbow shot in a Gungeon room - sucking up an enemy in kirby - The Throw and Back Drop powers in Kirby's Adventure - Using the Rock power to land in the cup in Kirby's Dream Course - Mirror's sliding attack in Kirby Superstar - Using the Rainbow Sword/Star Rod for the space battles in Kirby's Adventure and Dream Land 2 - the noise when yoshi digests something in smbw - almost falling into a pit but ejector seating off of yoshi at the last minute -detonating c4 in any game -hitting a massive combo in puzzlequest is always satisfying, and once you get late-game you're doing it on a regular basis -when your katamari goes up a size & perspective shifts & you get to pick up new stuff and roll outside or onto the freeway -going off the top rope to the outside - digging to a big rear end gem and blowing that mother up in Super Puzzle Fighter 2 Turbo -Surfing your shield in the new Zelda -popping an ember in DS3 -Powersliding through a crate in Crash Team Racing. -A shock combo in UT -Getting on fire in NBA Jam using Hakeem Olajuwon and Kenny "The Jet" Smith -getting a bushido dodge in mh generations -the reverb when you get your combo meter to 3x in skate - spamming the Jonathon/Charlotte button in Portrait of Ruin - using Toal's Godspeed ability in Ys: Origin -Flicking a cigarette to distract robot adversaries in Vanquish -Hitting an enemy point blank with an unexploded grenade launcher grenade -finding an unaware enemy player and waiting for them to turn around before stabbing them - the Message Receive notification after invading an AFK dark souls player -Getting someone with Martydom and you can hear them curse on the mic -splatting someone with a precision weapon in Splatoon and get the glass breaking noise. -clicking the shoulder buttons on the GC controller -Throwing a grenade back. -doing a locked on sword dash in any halo game -Halo plasma stick. -Downstabs in general, but zelda 2 is the first thing that comes to mind - Toon Link’s Down stab in Smash - SotC down smash -Max shaking her Polaroid after taking a photo collectable. -ending a level with the Dustforce super attack -jumping through doors in megaman - walking into a boss door with a fully charged buster in MMX and releasing it right after the boss intro -http://imgur.com/bCRb1c8 -busting up a pile of rubble in shovel knight and sucking up the gems - downstab bouncing on bad guys in shovel knight -firing a smart bomb in star fox 64 - taking your 3ds out of your backpack at the end of the day and seeing the street pass light is on -Accidentally riding the ogre to the bottom of the Everfall in Dragon's Dogma -hitting the optimize equipment button in final fantasy and seeing all the slots change to something better -Hitting sort items in an RPG and seeing your inventory organize itself perfectly - getting 5 or more points when you level up in fire emblem -gettng a clutch crit in fire emblem -In RPGs when you guy is gonna die but he gets enough xp to level up and is full health now -beating your hiscore in super hexagon -Dealing 69 damage -Timing the meters perfectly and getting a rainbow trail in Mario Golf World Tour -When you land on the green and get right next to the hole and the announcer goes NICE ON! -firing the bfg -cutting the world clean in half in the strength test minigame on kirby superstar -Perfectly curving a shot in Kirby's Dream Course to hit like three enemies -Using the UFO in Kirby's Dream Course -Attacking your friend with a power-up in the versus mode of Kirby's Dream Course and then stealing -their stars while they're out of HP -Using a jump shot to land directly in the cup in Kirby's Dream Course -Zandatsu -One-shotting the enemy lord as soon as you see him with a couched lance charge in Mount and Blade: Warband -hitting crows with the bow in ocarina of time and majoras mask -finding out that dynamite homes in on marked targets in Red Dead Redemption by throwing it at a group of birds. -shooting the bird creatures way up in the air in metroid prime -Instakilling things with the charged plasma beam -pinning Mercy with Reinhardt's charge -using the sauna in river city ransom -Keeping a tough monster juggled in the air for almost the entire fight in FF13 -STAGGER animation and the golden numbers - juggling an enemy in Valkyrie Profile -when you bomb a secret wall in any zelda and it plays that jingle -chaining 8+ kills and then touching ground in downwell -trapping the cat in roden'ts revenge -trapping the cat in chu chu rocket - hitting the 9 with game and watch -Tapping a direction to narrowly avoid bullets -pk lightning yourself back onto the stages in ssb - firing off screen to reload in lightgun games without missing a beat -blowing up a shmup boss and the explosions are so big and there are so many points flying around the screen that the game slows down - those pill-shaped power ups in arkanoid -saving a mushroom to get over the last rough terrain shortcut of pretty much any MK8 track -Finishing an enemy with the backswing of the aerial spinning attack as Zero in Mega Man X-4 -Getting a timed hit with the Hurly Gloves in Mario RPG -The plop sound when you drop into ink from up high in Splatoon -Beating a dungeon in LTTP and hearing the powerful overworld music start up -Superguarding in Paper Mario TTYD -Environment takedowns in Sleeping Dogs. -Catching a bee swarm in Animal Crossing -Putting down a services building in Cities: Skylines and hearing a chorus of dings from all the residences upgrading. -When you kill the shark in Shark! Shark! - firing the brimstone in Binding of Isaac - the running body slam in the Warriors - rolling away from the host when he rolls away and you both drink Estus and bow like you're reenacting the final boss of MGS4 -Winning a race in Tricky Towers by having your tower fall over just slow enough to beat the three-second timer. - the grapple in Titanfall 2 -planting explosives on comms equipment, generators and radio then blowing them at the same time in mgsv -also planting a bomb on the power supply, hitting the switch and blowing it when an enemy investigates - jumping in journey -when a slime gets back up and asks to join your party -Using the boxing glove to secure a goal in the new Rocket League Rumble update. -tossing a gun up in the air and catching it over and over again in cs source. - eating ghosts in Pac Man - eating a ghost train in Pac-Man CE series - getting a triple combo with Beat's cards in TWEWY and unleashing the super - clearing a row or column in Picross 3D Round 2 and the orange cubes break apart into their rounded shapes -Shotgun blasting the head off a crimson head in REHD - beheading a guy with a jumping lunge attack in ninja gaiden - in contra when you turn around for just a split second to gun down the train of guys running behind you - Hitting a double critical in Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse. - Shooting the switches in Macbeth in Star Fox 64, then the train crash causes the game to slow down from so many explosions and then the rumble pak goes crazy - Meeting a fellow traveler in Journey, completing a puzzle with him or her, rotating the camera for half a second and realizing that they're gone - getting the airship - landing on an island you couldnt get to before you got the airship - starting or continuing loads of sidequests that you get to after you get the airship - Landing a lv3 greatsword charge to cut off a monster's tail. - KOing a monster while it is in a pitfall trap. - beating master hand - beating a boss in Nuclear Throne - finishing off an enemy in Silent Hill 1 by crushing their mutated skull into the concrete with your boot -
