This hasn't really ever been a thing. In every game where multiplayer campaign was an actual feature (Napoleon onward for head-to-head. Shogun 2 onward for co-op) it was only available for two players. You could fake a multiplayer campaign in Medieval 2 with as many players as you could fit, but it was done hotseat style where each person took turns playing a single save file. There were never actually two people playing at the same time.

I agree with the rest of your points. I almost never actually used formations, but it was nice to have the option from time to time.

Edit: I'm pretty sure the real reason you didn't see big units all that much in the Tabletop was because you had to spend real-rear end money for everything you wanted to field and they were expensive even by GW pricing standards.

If you setup a vlan the hotseat style could work for more than 2 person multiplayer in Medieval 2. This has since been disabled because generally LAN support has died. I thought it was really fun and miss it.

Tww dragons look fine, they're just a armored large unit. Don't run them headfirst into halberdiers or let dark elf archers shoot them and it should be ok.

Yeah, some of them were definitely superfluous and should have happened automatically, like telling your spearmen to brace for a charge (I think in Rome 2 you could actually just set that to auto-cast so what was even the point of making it an option?) but stuff like putting your pikes into a square, cavalry into wedge, or legions into testudo all had a decent mix of advantages and disadvantages that made them legitimate (if rarely used) tactical options. In particular, putting your Eastern Spearmen into square formation and having them block up city streets let them punch way above their weight class during Rome 2 city defenses.

Since the TW design philosophy for the past decade or so seems to be centered around simplifying the campaign map as much as possible so it can simply be a vehicle for cool battles, it's a feature worth bringing back to give you more cool battle options.

One of the more frustrating parts was that it got annoying when you had two slightly different spear units or pike units, you had to tell them to seperately to go into formation instead of just being like "all pikes and spear into formation."

I liked formations in Attila, because they seemed to work well, and it just felt so good to make a spear/shield wall and hold a chokepoint during a city battle or something.

Kinda. IIRC they're a bit more fleshy than the PotC crew appearance-wise, and mostly VC-style puppets instead of self-aware. Think the same kind of Zombies as the VC use, but with pirate getups and options to bring pistols or muskets. The rest of their list was also pretty cool IIRC: Bloated zombies that would explode on death, undead ship dogs, Animated Hulks, which were basically zombie Ogres, Trolls and similar-sized creatures. Artillery-wise, there were weapons team-style units(think Irondrakes or Skaven Globadiers/Warpfire Throwers) bringing swivel guns to the field, carronades (basically mini-me Empire cannons) and Queen Bess, which was a gigantic naval cannon Harkon looted from an Empire ship and then modified for use on land. Small air force consisting of Fell Bats carrying Zombies with them, which they could IIRC even airdrop to form a new unit. Also there were IIRC Sirens as hero choice, swarms of undead rats and undead sea monsters. They also had some pretty funny magical items, like various kinds of magical moonshine instead of normal potions and an undead parrot that would warn the owner of incoming enemy fire.

I would sooooooo pay for CA to make that into an actual faction. :allears:

It uncompresses to 38gb. CA has said that the 60gb min specs are supposed to include DLC and such, not just the base game.

When the Mortal Empires campaign drops all the races and most of the map from game 1 will be playable plus all the new stuff in game 2 so I imagine that is what will end up bloating the HD footprint.
