The GECK is out! (via Bethesda's new launcher)

Nexus Mod Mananger
Easy enough to use
Wrye Bash
To use for Fallout4, get the standalone version and extract to Fallout4/ dir (ie Steamapps/common/Fallout4/Mopy)

Tools
Fallout 4 Script Extender (F4SE)
Used by a few mods for extended scripting features, most notably Place Everywhere.
FO4Edit
FO4Edit is a simple and effective .esp editor, especially useful for fixing levelled-list conflicts (with weapon mods generally):

Tweaks
Fallout 4 Configuration Tool
Set lots of options about the game. Annoyingly sets all your .ini files to read-only every time you save and exit.
Tweaking Guide on the Bethsoft forums

INI's are located in "My Documents\My Games\Fallout4\" ie. C:\Users\[NAME]\My Documents\My Games\Fallout4\
Load order files are in "C:\Users\[NAME]\AppData\Local\Fallout4" You can get to this folder easily by pressing Windows+R (run) and typing %localappdata%

A Note on .ini's:
There are now three files: Fallout4Custom.ini, Fallout4Prefs.ini and Fallout4.ini
From my understanding Fallout4.ini loads first, then Fallout4Prefs.ini is applied for generic settings like video settings, and finally Fallout4Custom.ini is applied for custom user settings.
This means that Fallout4Custom.ini should be the only .ini you need to edit (although Fallout4Prefs probably works just as well)

Enable Modding (mod managers might do this step for you)

Why is my game crashing ?
Crash on startup is usually caused when a plugin file (.esp) is looking for its parent or master file (.esm) but fails, or other missing vital resources.
Crash in-game can be caused by script-heavy mods, poorly designed mods, or mods that cause too much lag.
Being careful to what mods you install is the best way to prevent crashes, most mods are harmless but you should check comments before downloading.

How do I merge weapon mod levelled lists?
There's nothing to automatically merge load orders, so do it yourself, it's pretty easy:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c3YX4UeuqmM#t=109s
Short explanation:
1. Load your whole load order if you are lazy, or only your weapon mods, into FO4Edit
2. Find a conflicting record (red color) in the left panel in the weapon mod under "Levelled Item"
3. Right click the record (ie LLI_Raider_Weapons) -> copy as override into... (you only need to do this once per record)
4. "New file"
5. Name file without .esp ie "WeaponsPatches"
6. WeaponsPatches.esp loads after the weapon mods so will be in the rightmost column in the right panel:
Drag each conflicting "Levelled List Entry" header over to the WeaponsPatches column
7. Close program (X) and a window will come up to ask you to save

Fallout 4 updated and now F4SE (script extender) won't start, how do I fix it?
You can only run FO4 without F4SE in this case. You can try to tell Steam not to update the game in its properties, but this option tends to reset.

I try to keep quality control on the mods in the following post and have used most of them myself.
Those I think are essential are marked in bold.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2lcJW4O7g9w#t=464s
This video shows updates to Ambient Occlusion and Indirect Lighting from the May 23rd 2016 update of ENB.
ENB
ENB is less necessary than it was for Skyrim, but this program will still add tweaks and fixes to Fallout 4's rendering system.
Reshade
If you want to change the visual look of the game you can use this link to search on the nexus for a reshade preset.
Reshade is a generic program that intercepts Direct3d calls to alter the renderer.
*ENB and ReShade work fine together*

Shadow Boost
The author of ENB noticed that shadow rendering was the biggest hitch in the rendering pipeline, so this mod was offshot from ENB.
There are a few settings in ShadowBoost.ini that will adjust shadows if your fps falls below a certain number.
ENBoost
This is simply an .ini for ENB to use, presumably so systems with more RAM/VRAM can force to game to use larger memory pools, ideally to avoid HDD/SDD bottlenecking performance.
PhyOp
Optimized Vanilla Textures, reduced texture sizes while attempting to retain quality. Great for FPS!

Weapon Balance Overhaul
Makes pipeweapons more useful later on, balances all weapons away from the combat rifle being the most useful. Increased power of uniques.
More Realistic Stealth and Sneaking
I increased stealth durations for a more realistic feel. You need to use this and tell your friends on the nexus how cool it is.
We are the Minutemen
Minutemen overhaul so you might actually use that flaregun.

Vivid Fallout
Replaces many textures with versions that are improved, or have their resolution lowered while retaining quality.
Grasslands
"Unhealthy" version adds some nice subtle grass color to the wasteland .
True Storms or Vivid Weathers
Very nice weather mods.
Natural and Atmospheric Commonwealth (NAC)
A natural-looking atmosphere overhaul that is not compatible with but includes many features of Darker Nights, True Storms, Vivid Weathers, Fr4nnson's Light Tweaks, Enhanced Lights and FX, and Fog Out.
Darker Nights
Dont forget the True Storms patch.
Enhanced Color Correction
Changes game variables for a better color balance (no ENB/ReShade required)
WET
Water improvements.
Light Tweaks
Far Area Reform (FAR)
Make far areas look better.
Reverb and Ambience Overhaul
Turn down 'ambient volume' and 'reverb' sliders in audio menu for a less intense effect (these settings sometimes have problems saving)

Better Skylanes Flight 1981 Crash Site
Improved unique crash site location.
Believable Drumlin Diner
Get version 1.0 for a lite experience.
Better Quarry Sites
Improved Quarry textures.
Rebuilt Jamaica Plain
Rebuilds the broken buildings. Nice but adds too much lag to the area.
Better UFO Crash Site
No Fog inside the Institute
I haven't even been there but gently caress fog!
Faction Housing Overhaul
Player faction reward housing overhaul.
Unique Uniques
New textures for uniques and detachable unique mods.

More Where That Came From
"Adds 111 new lore-friendly, thematically appropriate songs to Diamond City Radio" (also adds 'filler' files other mods can use to insert their own tracks)
Elvani's Track Pack for Diamond City Radio
Adds more tracks to Diamond City Radio, designed to work with More Where that Came From.
Existence 2.0
An attempt to add a lore-friendly radio station hosted by a drat robot

Character
These will only appear in character creation, and won't be applied to NPCs:
Lots More Male Hairstyles
Lots More Female Hairstyles
Lots More Facial Hair
Ponytail Hairstyles
Eyes of Beauty
Replacers: (will appear on every character)
Appealing Moles
True Eyes
Works with Eyes of Beauty

Misc
Enhanced Blood
Ammo Retexture
Adds more realistic and higher definition ammo boxes.
Chem Redux
Better looking chems. Recommended no-glow version.
Fallout 4 HD Reworked
HD versions of some annoyingly low-quality textures.

Armor and Weapon Keywords Community Resource (AWKCR)
Serves as a base for many mods. You just need it.
Armorsmith Extended
Adds functionality to armorsmithing and serves as a base for many mods.
CROSS Pre-war Cybernetics
CROSS has a series of mods worth checking out especially if you like crafting.

Atomic Surgery
Prettier companions.
Great Actors
Prettier companions and NPCs.
Everyone's Best Friend
Make Dogmeat not count as a companion.

Raider Overhaul
Adds custom textures, equipment and raider types.
Super Mutant Redux
More super mutant types.
Legendary Helmets
Makes it so helmets can spawn with legendary effects.
Levelled Spawns
"Adds over 260 thought-out spawning points."
More Spawns
Adds 'thousands' of new spawns.
War of the Commonwealth
Adds an intense enemy spawning system that tends to spawn too many enemies which can cause crashes. The options system is terrible!
NPCs Travel
A mod that adds scripted NPC travellers. Spawning at the edge of the player's radius, they add dynamic life and skirmishes to the wasteland. Gunshots in the distance are often travellers that cross and fight.
Sexy Hancock
Make Hancock more memorable looking. And drat sexy.

Extended Dialogue Interface
Replaces "Full Dialogue Interface." Custom and improved dialogue interface, which retrieves dialogue strings automatically.
DEF UI
A UI maximized for higher resolutions and probably the best overall UI
Valacil's Item Sorting
The new standard if you are looking for item sorting.
Updated ICONLIBS2 for DEF_UI
Requires DEF UI and Val's item sorting, adds icons next to item names in inventory.

*Install Def_UI+Val+ICONLIBS2 for icons in inventory*

Settlement Keywords Expanded
Standardized settlement keywords
Better Settlers
Run a holotape to adjust settler options including mortality.*Get the optional patch and required mods to add more clothes to settlers*
Settler Management Software
Run the holotape at a terminal to list and adjust settler roles.
Immersive Vendors
Better looking vendors.
Quiter Settlements
Less dumb noise in settlements.
Longer Power Lines
FFS
Stairs Ladders Ramps
Simple and effective
Craftable Ramps and Rails
Underfoot Rugs
Adds automatic settler pathing too
Just Rugs
Dialogue Settler Fix
Makes settlers less likely to say something stupid
Spring Cleaning or Scrap Everything
Scrap almost everything in settlements. Apparently the 'cell reset/sprint bug' has been officially patched.
Homemaker
Another thorough building system.
Stackable Concrete Foundations
Functional Displays
Adds some great displays with snap points.
Invisible Furniture
Add placeable markers for settlers to perform different actions.
Place Everywhere
Put stuff wherever you want, comes with hotkeys to help placement. Requires F4SE.
Snappable Junk Fences
Fix the gaps between junk pieces.

Power Armor Fast Exit and Enter
Increase speed of enter/exit power armor animations.

Unofficial Fallout 4 Patch
Made by the long-time official unofficial modding team.
Mo Betta Scrap
Changes junk to be more reasonable and have ingredients you would expect.
Realistic Ragdoll Force
Makes ragdolls more realistic.
Ragdoll Collision
Dead bodies collide and can pile up. Also makes the character collide with bodies.
Immersive Dismemberment
Lowers dismemberment rates.
Shell Rain
Adjusts shell limits and durations so you can sperg out over the ruins of battle.
Disable Character Glow
Add a line to your .ini to automatically enter a console command that removes an unrealistic glow from characters (this is the same as ENB's default "DisableFakeLights=true" setting)
Pipboy Shadows
Changes the pipboy light type to cast shadows. Looks pretty cool but is actually dependant on what direction your pipboy is facing and is sometimes easily occluded.
Cell respawn timer
Increase cell respawn/reset times.
Shorter NPC Greeting Distance
You flatter yourself, NPC.
Stuff in Wood Boxes
Why the game ever included wood boxes without stuff I'll never know.
Faster Terminals
Like anyone has ever seen a computer actually print out characters that slow.
Button Lowered Weapons
Kind of annoying to use
Auto Lowered Weapons
Use this or the other one, this works well but there is no way to keep your weapon up without aiming.
Sleep or Save (SOS)
For survival, choose to save on a bed instead of having to sleep.
Prewar Safes
Pipeweapons in prewar safes? I don't think so mister, perhaps you haven't considered my immersion.

GOON MOD SHOWCASE STUFF HERE!

Made a cool mod? found a cool mod you want to share? I'll quote you here so everyone can always see it and give it a try!

SeanBeansShako posted:

When I first started tooling around with Fallout 4 and once I got used to how the game did things compared to the past modern titles, I found myself slightly saddened that for some reason certain weapons were dropped or merged as mods with the base games ones for time or asset reasons I suspect. I was also quite annoyed really as well at the lack of a few classical weapons or rehashes from the games lore. Thankfully modding has solved these issues.

Anywho, here is a list of weapons from previous Fallout games with a few lore friendly extras thrown in for anyone dipping their toes into modding and just wants to add a few extra weapons for oomph. Some of these aren't exaclty well balanced so YMMV or try and do some GECK work I guess. So if you missed a certain favourite weapon from Fallout 1/2/3/New Vegas that you wish to use in Fallout 4 here they are.

Ensure you have AWKCR installed before you start downloading these.

SeanBeansShako posted:

This is a sort of legacy mod add on list for outfits, armor and power armor for those first time modders who just want to add a bit more lore friendly content to the game before going nuts. This stuff will basically be either from the previous lore friendly entries of the franchise, or use assets/stuff inspired by official art book/promotional materiel and not stick out too much.

Both the CBBE and AWKCR mods are mandatory and strongly suggested of course.

Fallout 1/2/Tactics:

Classic M1 US Army style combat armor helmet replacement
Classic Cloth style Vault Jumpsuit
Classic Brotherhood Scribe Robes
Mid Western Chapter of the BOS Power Armor

1950's Feminine Outfits (for woman obv)
1950's style US Army Officer Uniforms
Commonwealth Surplus basically adds a bunch of military and civil service style uniforms (cops and other minor branches) to the Commonwealth. This mod is also a sneaky Gunner visual variety mod as it adds most of the new stuff to their gear.
Custom T-49 Armor of the Shoddycast Fallout lore mascot, The Storyteller
2nd World War 2-Tone style Military Fatigues For Pre-War Army uniforms
Eli's Armor Compendium is another mix and match default assets to create original lore friendly clothing and accessories style mod, actually some really nice stuff there for people who just want a bit more visual variety outside factions.

Cirosan posted:

For those considering trying it, I made a compatibility patch for Tales and Full Dialogue Interface that makes Tales' added content display in FDI's extended, non-paraphrased fashion. You can find it under Miscellaneous in FDI's Nexus page.

On a different note, I didn't realize my earlier post for Traits and More Perks would be quoted directly in the OP. Please replace it with the following, as it's way more dignified than the current "please add it to the OP "

--

The Traits and More Perks mod adds a number of new Traits and a few new Perks into the game. Because the standard perk menu (the Vault Boy chart) precludes adding new perks/traits, the new Perks are accessible by constructing a special item at a Chemistry Station, then using the item on your character to add the Perk. New Traits are handled through a custom menu and can be added to a character at any time. Many Traits/Perks are directly inspired by previous Fallout titles, but quite a few are original creations. Also included is an option remove all traits, so if you want to re-spec your character build or want to uninstall the mod, it's only a few clicks away.

To see the mod in action, here's a video demonstration of all the mod's features:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I8f3BJUWllU

--

Side note: I did end up submitting Traits and More Perks to that Nvidia modding contest. It lost out to a "pew pew" sound replacer and a Portal 2 joke item. I have no comment.

Cirosan posted:

Full Dialogue Interface has been updated to Beta11. As is quickly becoming my catchphrase, shamelessly copying from the changelog:

* Updated all languages to support the new 1.6 patch.
* The installer will now automate installation of DLC support. Downloading DLC strings separately as update files is no longer necessary.
* Extended support for the Lite version to the DLCs. English only.
* Updated the Italian documentation with a new translation by Murdoc26. Thanks, Murdoc26!
* Corrected some slight issues with the Japanese and Chinese strings.

The Iron Rose posted:

For the modlist:

AWCKR should definitely be included, as it ties together a bunch of different weapon mods and enables weapon mods built to be compatible with it to be crafted.

Besides that, here's a list of my mods that I've written:

Carry Weight Modifications: Lets you set a base carry weight, which is essentially the same thing as using modav carryweight. What's more interesting is that this mod also lets you set carry weight per strength level, so you can customize how much strength you want to gain per level up.

Craftable Guns and Weapons: As it says on the tin, puts in a crafting station that lets you craft, well, guns and weapons. There are a number of other mods that do the same thing, several of which are more complete, namely Crafting Workbenches. Crafting Workbenches is certainly more expansive than my version, though I will say that I was the first person to figure out how to setup weapon crafting for fallout 4. Nonetheless, if you want a more minimalist setup, Craftable Guns and Weapons is the way to go. If you want lots of options, go for Crafting Workbenches.

Create Your Own Difficulty Rebalance: A surprisingly essential mod for lots of people, this lets you customize the damage multiplier for both you and for enemies. If you find you're dying too quickly or tanking too much, this mod is for you. Same goes if you're annoyed by enemy damage sponginess, or think you're cutting through raiders too quickly. This mod allows you to fine tune exactly how much damage you deal and how much damage you take.

Customize Legendary Enemy Spawning: A slightly finnicky mod, this lets you customize the rarity and spawn chance for legendary enemies, as well as, optionally, disabling randomly spawned legendary enemies altogether. Read the description as it goes into more detail, but basically it lets you determine both the pool of potentially legendary enemies as well as the chance those enemies will spawn as legendary. If you want nearly every enemy to be legendary, or none at all, download away.

Customize Power Armor and Jetpack Drain: I really loathe fusion core management, so I made this mod that lets you eliminate/reduce (or increase) the amount Power Armor and Jetpack use drains the fusion core.

Easy Lockpicking: Sets the sweet spot to be the entire lockpick bar, so turn right and it opens. You still need the perks however.

No Fall Damage: Do I need to explain this one?

Unbreakable Power Armor: ibid. Your power armor durability never decreases. Doesn't apply to companions since doing so causes some facial bugs.

Iron Rose's Weapon Balance Overhaul: Probably the mod I've spent the most time and effort on, if you exclude the time spent figuring out how to implement weapon crafting in the days before FO4Edit came out. A complete overhaul of all the weapons and most of the attachments in the game, the design principle I work to is making sure every weapon in the game is good at something, and that they are balanced relative to one another. The result of this is that almost every weapon in the game is stronger, because I wanted to make sure they had at least one area in which they excelled. I hated how quickly pipe weapons became obsolete and how the combat rifle was basically the best thing to use in every situation, so now if you have a favourite weapon, you don't have to feel like you're screwing yourself over.

Midnight Voyager posted:

So, thanks tit modders, because you guys make pretty good tools for stuff.

I decided to try to remove the crotch bit on the Minutemen General armor and it snowballed. So I present Babby's First Mesh Mashup. Still tweaking it. (And it's using this)

Eliminating clipping is really such a pain in the rear end. It looks so different ingame from in body shop.

I've also assassinated Preston's dumb blobby boots now.

Never realized how much I hated those until I started doing this.

Pwnstar posted:

I made a new mod: http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/24420/

It gives legendary enemies unique names so now instead of fighting "Legendary Gunner" you fight "Angel Eyes" or "Dirty Harriet" or whatever dumb names I made. Non Workshop DLC (major ones Nuka etc) needed.

Click any gun you want! Most require tweaking to fix levelled list compatability (see video in first post), some to balance damage.

A lot of these weapons are now outdated. I would recommended loading in weapon packs such as the following, instead of individual weapons:
*Doombased's weapons have been merged here and do not require to be downloaded individually
*Modern Firearms is available here
*Skibadaa Weapon Pack

THE BIG LIST OF GOOD FALLOUT 4 MODS ON NEXUS, CHECK HERE TO GET STRAIGHT TO THE MODS AND AVOID

EDIT:

Here are some big effort posts from the last few months of me finding good stuff on the Nexus too, a kind of mixed grab bag but all good mostly minor stuff that some people would enjoy, I will get around to making the layout less sloppy in the near future.

Basically this is stuff being recently produced the OP hasn't had time to check yet so remember to read the mod detail section of the page carefully/ensure you will have no conflicts or issues with the mods.

quote:

The Legendary Overhaul is an interesting one that completely overhauls the random upgrades of drops and not only introduces a bunch of new ones, but cuts out or retweaks the more well useless ones. Also adds them to helmets.

Want to scavenge everything from a location but don't have the time? Salvage Beacon here had you pretty much tell your Settlers to haul junk back to your Settlement while you are busy saving the commonwealth/finding your son/cosplaying as a better Fallout character from the past!

If you have Immersive Scrapping and find all these extra suits of power armor super loving useless now you have gotten bored with decorating your house with the ones you want to keep, get the add on here that lets you scrap down parts of said useless suits.

Ever wanted to teleport about and poo poo? Well, blink grenades here makes that dream a video game reality.

Private Vertibird lets you craft a Vertibird for you, dogmeat and friends to just travel around the Commonwealth with. Great for those who want a Vertibird but hate the Brotherhood!

Think the return book vendors are a neat idea but don't want to be carrying an entire library weighing your weight limit down? Weightless Books removes the weight on those late books. Redeem your heart out!

Pissed your grenades don't have fragmentation and explosive? This guy fixes that! just don't get hit by your own shrapnel ho ho! get this with TRUE FRAGS!

Played Phantom Pain or the Metal Gear games and thought to yourself 'Yeah I wish I could surprise these jerks with my gun and force them to lie down and not force me to waste ammo?' well Metal Gear Style Intimidation deals with that sort of craving.

OR MAYBE THIS ONE

And after working your rear end off to get that Intimidate perk wouldn't be nice if it worked after you put your gun away? Permanent Intimidation

Ever wanted a way to recharge and recycle Fusion Cores? now you can with this station looking thingy!

Go all Bioshock with some injected psyker powers!

Remember Challenges feature from New Vegas? they were pretty neat right? so neat. GRA ones so worth it. Somebody has made a mod that gives the Commonwealth their own set of Challenges now!

Unleveled World for those who aren't a fan of the Oblivion style leveling the game has with some NPC.

Annoyed at the perfect operation condition of firearms? Weapon Jams adds a slight chance of jamming on older/improvised firearms based on weapon mods as well as some stat stuff. Nothing else, no older Fallout style conditioning. Go crazy.

If you loving hate pipeguns and want them to be utterly replaced from the game YonaTaku's DefenseGun Replacer for Pipe Weaponry basically does this using the DefenseGun mod which switches all Pipe Weaponry in the game for the randomised single shot, semi and automatic WW1/WW2 style SMGs.

Want more over the top gibs when bursting some poor sad bastards skull? Gibs of Glory makes head shots a lot more messy.

Wasteland Cannibals FX is a effects mod for those players who like to eat the bodies of their fallen enemies in more grisly detail.

I'm a first page posting boy!

Anyone else having WOTC crash to desktop at random times? I can't list all my mods but most of them are low-impact texture updates and the Better Settler Suite.

It only happens with WOTC spawns above 0. Installed and spawns set to zero in the PIP menu doesn't crash.

If you guys find a neat mod, post about here and gush all about it. Provide pics or a video, I'll quote the post under the OP to keep the interest train rolling.

Oh and thanks again for Lumbering Troll for keeping the mod dream alive for the last few months too.

Weapon Balance Overhaul: Probably the mod I've spent the most time and effort on, if you exclude the time spent figuring out how to implement weapon crafting in the days before FO4Edit came out.

AWCKR is pretty much mandatory for both the assets and the fact half the time with new weapons they don't know how to add them to NPC spawn list.

Oh drat, I forgot a really useful one from my list which basically prevents friendlies from getting mad at you when you land near them in your power armour.

I'm just a lowly, thieving console modder, but I really like the WRVR radio station mod/companion. All the other mods I like are silly like Mysterious B.I.G. and the laser pew pews.

Would you like to hunt Deathclaws that have mutated in macho man randy savage in a power armour frame which is also a gorilla suit whilst hitting them with a melee weapon of the main characters baby? if so, you've come to the right thread. Those are all possible mods.

It's the closest I can get to having a FO4 Wild Wasteland. But like I said, I am a bit limited being on Xbone. My wife made me delete Ringo the Flamingo when we learned it was a stolen mod.

Fake Edit: That gorilla power armor is horrifying.

Also, I discovered something neat. A big mod team is doing a huge expansion sized total conversion mod based on the Khan's from New Vegas settling in Wyoming. Looks pretty drat promising so far.

Tyrannosaurs in P-51 Volkswagens!

I'd like to humbly pimp my own mods, I made four but here are the two that are worth a drat:

Caps and Masks
http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/8836/
Adds a bunch of hats and bandanas and poo poo.

Delta Wasteland Radio
http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/11087/
Includes about 70 old blues songs and a robot DJ.

Currently working on some leveled lists so good armor collections like Femshepping and Elianora's will appear on NPCs.

any news on some of the total overhauls that I love so much? Been waiting since practically the release to re-play with a different (better) rule-set, perks, and gear.

Well there's another "Hidden until people stop uploading stolen mods to Bethesda.theft and users stop endorsing mod theft." I think that's the most annoying thing about this dumb drama.

I do hope when he's got time he can put the majority of the stuff on that list, I grit my teeth and basically cruised through the top 3000 mods on the Nexus in one long rear end go for a few hours. Was worth it though, found some great gems. A decent amount of lore friendly practical stuff, gameplay fixess and a few new toys that can make a new game seem like a pretty new game.

Also, I am pumped for the mod a goon is working on that overhauls the Perks of the game.

I really like wotc but it makes my game stutter a fair bit with all the extra NPCs spawning.

On the other hand it inspired me to do a heavy weapon build because of how many dudes can spawn in groups. They blow up real nice.

Yes I wanted to like this mod, but I simply cannot be adding mods that add crashes, or I will go crazy.

A mod like Levelled Spawns on the other hand, is harmless to add as it adds some well-thought-out-spawn without using an bloated scripting system that spawns too many enemies.

Does anyone have any experience with More Spawns?

There's also Fallout Cascadia which is a big mod team doing Fallout: Seattle

edit: Also, on the topic of general mods, if you're going to recommend snap and build and Homemaker (which as of Monday at least completely overwrites the menus such that you can't access anything added in far harbor), you should really include Settlement Keywords Expanded:

http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/12226/

It puts all of the misc add-on settlement stuff into their own menu namespace so nothing ever overwrites anything that Bethesda might add in. S&B has a SKE patch, SKE itself has one for Homemaker.

I havent tried snap n build and homemaker, I was going thru the old links. This is why I was afraid to add mods I havent used, but bug reports are good. Is snap n build funky too?

Meant to add Settlement keywords in the last edit, thanks

Which mod would you say has the best implementation of shutting Preston up? Something that deals with all his radiant quests. There's a few on the nexus but I can't make heads nor tails of them.

I've been trying this mod called "We Are The Minutemen", which does a few things to the Minutemen faction:

1) Adds some more templates to the minutemen that you find in random encounters. Some will have heavier armor/better weapons. It seems tied to the number/size of your settlements too.

2) Lets you "Craft" minutemen at the citadel so you can deploy them at settlements as guards.

3) Gives them uniforms, instead of the dirty patchy outfit they have nice blue military style (civil war, I think?) uniforms.

4) Implements a cooldown timer on minutemen quests. You can only do 1 at a time, and the game won't immediately assign you another one as you turn them in.

I'm pretty satisfied with it so far. It toned things down so it's not so crazy, without completely disabling it like many of the other mods do.

Tyrannosaurs in P-51 Volkswagens!

Anyone want to help me test some leveled lists?
http://www.filedropper.com/mergedclothes

I took outfits from Commonwealth Survivalist Gear, Femshepping one and two (females only, male NPCs will default to something else), and Elianora and applied them to wastelanders, settlers, raiders, gunners and caravan guards. You'll need to download the original clothes packs for any of them to work. There are three separate .esps in the download, one for each, but to use all three together you need the merged patch in the download, placed below the other three in your load order.

Caveat: I have no idea if one guy's merged patch will work for someone else. It might not, it all depends on form ID numbering. I googled the question but turned up nothing either way. I think the worst that could happen is that you just won't see all three clothes packs showing up at the same time.

It does - that's how all compatibility patches are made. I mean you probably aren't using the "merge plugin" feature for just two or three compatible mods, but all a merged patch does is manage record conflicts automatically.
