I'm a pretty heave sleeper. Besides, one of my roommates was gracious enough to let me use his bed when he's not there since he tends to work in South LA and stays with family there over the Summer.

ThePeavstenator posted:

Have you had to clean up bags of his own poo poo that he leaves around the place or devised an RC-car door-opening system for your own entry into the apartment?

He is a pretty messy person. He'll only clean if he's going to get laid that night. He's like a combination of Master Shake and Jordan Belfort.

Yeah, I'm probably not getting it back and I'll probably owe some more by the time this is done. gently caress. Not much to say about the contract other than my roommate is full of poo poo. But it's ok! He's getting a real estate license so he's got investor friends to bail him out! :allears:

He wants to have a meeting on Friday to discuss the room. What is there do discuss? I'm already looking at apartments and I found some places that are a bit more expensive, but at least I get my own room and the people seem fine.

Make sure the room you get wasn't built by one of the other tenants.

Those photos are incredible but I'm probably not the only one who would benefit from an mspaint of the new floor plan. I don't understand how anyone could think this was a good idea.

Can you even have subletters (not that this is even subletting)? Your room mate is fascinating. Suggest that he put it on Air BnB instead, weight bench as the bed.

Your roommate wants to have a meeting where he says he now pays 10% of the rent he used to pay and the rest is covered by the new person because he built the room.

Is there a window in the new room because otherwise it's not up to code as a sleeping room.

I'm curious if the walls are entirely floating on the carpet and not anchored to anything.

They likely are if this was done overnight. Sounds like the walls could collapse with just a stiff breeze.

He'll just cut a hole in the side of one of the drywall sheets, construction isn't difficult.

I touched the walls and they are incredibly flimsy. They are insulated and there is a piece of lumber at the bottom holding them together. That's it.

I bet you could tear it down in a night with < $100 in tools from harbor freight and a respirator from home depot. How structurally sound could it be?

A dude in the new(er) houses across the tracks got into big trouble after building a similar structure in his flat and he owned the place.

Of course he also put a millionaire heiress in the room and ransomed her for money.

Even better is that he cut into half the space in OP's non-room to build it. Who the gently caress decides to ruin a significant portion of common space, let alone space that is technically the sleeping area of one of the tenants, just for some half-baked idea?

Also, why are there four people on the lease of a two bedroom apartment? I've lived in a college hell nest as well, 8 people in a 4 bedroom house, but even in that case we only had like half of the people on the lease.

OP, no matter what happens thank you for sharing with us. I can't wait for updates.

Well, I finally got a hold of the landlord and let her know. She was not happy at all. Apparently, she's gonna sic building inspections on the apartment and get to the bottom of this. She sounded absolutely furious at O for pulling this kind of bullshit. Now I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop, but at least I got the ball rolling.
