Uncle Ben: Still Dead.
It took me more than a year to get through the Trial of the Sword. I was pretty relaxed about it though. Maybe once or twice a month, if I had a free afternoon, I'd prep a thirty minute amor+3 meal and take a run at the Trial.

Never eat in an empty room. If you've killed everything in the room you're in, go to the next room, crouch, see what you're up against, and then make an eating decision. No point in panic-eating valuable buffable food ingredients if it turns out the next room has a cookpot, and a fairy or two.

I did eat the trees, but only in the rest rooms. bombing all the trees in other rooms took too much time.

Got through the first and second trials on my first run at both, it's the third that took me the year.

I find the third the easiest, is that weird? It has so many heart ingredients and so much elemental weaponry that it's pretty trivial as long as you don't get overconfident or panic. Well, and as long as you've got long-distance laser reflect timing down...

By the third set you should have enough ancient arrows to deal with the real threats

I certainly hope everyone had their chest sensor on in there

Amppelix

it gives you nine ancient arrows which is more than enough to kill all of the moving guardians and lynels and you'll even have some left over to shoot at most of the decayed guardians too. especially because of this it's totally the easiest one on master mode, because the enemies' increased strength and regen doesn't matter when you're just making them disappear into the ether with your arrows.

I found the third set to be easiest as well. Saved the ancient arrows for the Lynels and turret guardians and it wasn't too bad. I just climbed up to the turrets, let them focus on me, and popped them in the eye.

Trial of the sword is manageable by mere mortals except on Master Sword difficulty. Just google up a guide and it will tell you how to kill each room and what items to look for. The reward would have been better if it not only powered up the sword to full damage but also removed the cool down timer. At that point in the game you’ve likely done mostly everything anyway and having an unbreakable master sword would be fun as heck. At the least they could’ve reduced the cool down to like 2 minutes or something.

Again a very likpatous story
I did the first set of Master Trials just fine, then I got to the second one and its stupid gimmick and I got one shot by an enemy hidden behind a wall shooting an arrow at me and I just said gently caress this and quit.

the powered master sword has increased durability by a factor of like 5, so it's not like they didn't do anything to make it easier to use.

I begin by saying that difficulty is entirely relative, but I fully expected the trials to be muuuuuuuch too hard for me yet it wasn't ridiculous. Then I was disappointed that the fully upgraded Master Sword wasn't a fully permanent weapon as befitting such an ordeal, but in terms of story and difficulty. I'm also annoyed that it's still not possible to fully upgrade both life and stamina. I do have strong 'completionist' tendencies, but it's very satisfying to have full bars. I am fully aware that there is max stamina and health foods, but I feel that those should be a complement rather than a replacement.

There also should have been fully cosmetic gear slots.

My gut tells me that there should have been more DLC that would have added the 8 more shrines needed for two more heart containers. But they scrapped it and went for BOTW 2 instead.

Because of the way hearty and energizing potions work (plus the stable and town inns) it's optimal to have a heart or three available for filling with yellows.

It seems that way but you're just supposed to avoid enemies for a while. It gets more bearable once you get off the plateau and can get weapons/armor upgrades. You did just wake up after 100 years after all

Even in vanilla I got the vibe that you're not encouraged to actually fight random enemies unless you're pretty sure you have something to gain from it, what with no combat-based experience system. There's a reason the game has a dedicated stealth system and armour that goes with it which you can buy pretty early on.

In support of this, the enemies have a combat based experience system; they level up based on how many enemies have been defeated.

Some guy posting reminded me that I took my horse on a raft (it was that sea town with all the melons) and it calmly stayed. Until I kept hitting it with the leaf by accident and it swam back to shore.

You can also build an armor raft if you put treasure chests on the raft so those stupid spitting enemies stop loving with you. Unfortunately the limited room can end up a problem here too if the leaf hits the chests and breaks.

I'm planning on getting a physical copy, so if I don't like it (or I do but not enough to play through more than once) I can just turn around and resell it for like $40-$50

I never played it the first time around so I'm expecting to at least complete it once before judging

The original release caused a pretty big divide amongst typical Zelda fans. Some absolutely loved the motion controls and felt the story was fantastic (except for Fi’s constant nagging), while others thought the controls were rear end and the story crap. I was in the latter category and got about 1/3 of the way in before the motion controls got too annoying for me and the story just didn’t capture my attention.

I’m giving it a second chance cause I’m interested in how the stick controls to replace the waggle. I know it won’t be an ideal 1:1 conversion of the mechanics but I’m hoping it’s enough for me. I always wanted to play through it till the end.

I'm not putting down money until I hear that one or more of the following:

tone down Fi's constant nagging (possible?)
fix the pop ups telling you how much a blue ruppee is worth/what an Iron Ore is every time you boot the game (highly likely)
remove one of the Imprisoned fights or at least space out the second and third more (vanishingly unlikely)

I had other issues with the game, but those are far less egregious.

It did! And they fixed it in the HD re-release, so it's highly likely it'll get fixed in Skyward Sword too.

It was just so much worse in Skyward Sword because at least Twilight Princess only did it for the Ruppees. In Skyward Sword, it also had the pop-up for every single bloody crafting mat you picked up every time you booted the game. There were at least 30 of those drat things. It was utterly maddening!

It's incwedibwe easy to suck my own dick.

Honestly having missed every Zelda game between LoZ on the NES and BotW I’ll buy whatever they release for switch. I seem to remember thinking my roommate had way too much patience because they were always sailing around featureless oceans playing hundreds of hours of Wind Waker (?), but after a year hiding from Covid that sounds relaxing. It’s not as if the motion controls are great playing BotW on the switch lite anyway, so if skyward sword sucks I’ll just shut up and deal with it.

It did but it was much much less obnoxious because TP didn't have much else than the few different kinds of rupees. Whereas Skyward Sword had you collecting all sorts of monster parts and bugs, and each one of those had an info text appear when you pick it up the first time after each reboot.

not only did it have the info text but it also pulled up your inventory and played a slow animation showing the item being added to it

I am personally just looking for a game with sensible, traditional controls and Fi gagged in a sac full of rocks at the bottom of the sea, that's all. I doubt that we will ever see Sensible Phantom Hourglass and/or Spirit Tracks due to the dual-screen gimmick, so I am hoping that this makes chicken salad out of chicken poo poo. Waiting for news is hardly keeping me up at night, but all I can do is wait and see. Honestly, I am more looking forward to the new Mario Golf, which is an absolute buy for me.

If I do buy Skyward Sword Switch, it will be physical. I don't like to sell my games, though, so if I do buy it's forever.
