If you would like to, you can play around on General Fanager's expansion tool. Decent way to guess who will be unprotected, what the expansion team might look like, etc. It's set up to automatically protect players who have to be protected because of NMC so you don't even need to worry about that.

Edit: Las Vegas will be bad, but it looks like they'll be able to ice a roster that's at least sort of competitive, there will likely be some pretty decent players and prospects left unprotected.

For example: one of Vatanen, Fowler, or Lindholm will be unprotected assuming the Ducks can't find a way to jettison Bieksa

I give up on the generalfanager thing, picking which players I hardly know on each team might be protected is somewhat difficult, but making a team out of the remnants is really hard

obviously this is a basketball team and not representative of what a hockey jersey looks like but the color scheme and design is pretty close

It would be a strange thing to do though. Even if you don't care about who of your unprotected players gets claimed, not using up all your slots is going to send a message to your players, and to other teams that maybe you don't want to send.

So the canucks protected list for sure includes the Sedins and Eriksson.

Exempt players currently on the big club's roster:

Rodin, Virtanen (too bad), Gaunce, Tryampkin, Hutton

So who will the canucks protect or expose? I'd guess they go for the 7 forwards/3 d option, which leaves them with 4 slots at forward after the NMC protected players. I could see them protecting Hansen, Horvat, Baerschi, and Sutter with that - and I guess exposing Skille and Dorsett. On D poo poo gets interesting though. Edler and Tanev are protected, no question there, so do they protect Gudbranson or Sbisa? Seems pretty likely they'll expose Biega for the D requirement though. Unless there are better D available from other teams that's where I see this new franchise making their pick from the canucks, as the forward group available are a trash fire. Please please please don't protect Sbisa! Please take Sbisa LV!

Vegas will have 30 players from the expansion draft alone, another 7 from the 2017 draft plus any UFAs they pick up, it really doesn't matter who they take from the likes of the Canucks and CBJ, I doubt very much they'll make the 23-man roster out of camp.

I don't give a gently caress what the vegas team looks like after selecting from the nucks roster, but rather what the nucks roster looks like following it

I decided to spend some time playing around with the CapFriendly expansion draft tool, and according to the... I guess user consensus, the Canucks should protect Sutter and expose Granlund
