I don't understand why Detroit didn't make plays for Demers and Campbell, personally. Like I get Campbell took a sweetheart deal, but due diligence often pays off.

Andrew Ladd: I am not sure why NYI went from Okposo to Ladd. Maybe Okposo wanted out? I am not sure.

The Isles heard Okposo's contract demands early in the season and pretty much cut off negotiations right there. They never even approached him during the FA period either. Seemed like they were ready to move on.

I don't really care about the Ladd for Okposo swap, maybe Ladd's style will mesh with Tavares more. Both Ladd and Okposo are getting a little more than they should for a year or two longer than they should but that's how FA works.

Okposo isn't really the power forward people believe he is. Well, he was when he was younger, but he started training with Tavares more and started to move towards his playmaking style the past few years. Except he's really dumb so he just turned the puck over a lot.

I could see Okposo's production dropping off without playing next to Tavares, but I could also see him get back to the grittier and simpler style that suits him better when he's not on a team with one of the worst coaches in the league. Will be interesting to see which path he takes.

In addition to the buyout protection, since signing bonuses are paid in large lump payments instead of over the course of the season, these guys with huge signing bonuses will be able to collect most of their paycheck even in the event of a(nother) lockout.

Boedker, Staal, Stempniak: These actually made some sense. Stempniak has been good since leaving the dysfunctional Leafs and Carolina loves their ex-Leafs.
Radulov: A reasonable roll of the dice that would have made sense for a team coached by someone other than Michel Therrien.
Matt Martin: Get the gently caress out with this "elite 4th liner" bullshit. This had better not set a trend of truculent acquisitions.

I don't think the Reimer deal is bad. I just don't understand why it was Florida that made the deal (also disregarding the fact that it's 5 years for James Reimer). I am also a fan of the Okposo deal, but I may be too much of a fan of the player.

the okposo contract is too long, but i maintain that of all the big contracts handed to forwards yesterday, it is by far the least bad of the bunch. mostly because i am unable to be objective about the sabres, but also because a lot of those other guys are old and beat to poo poo and i think okposo has a better chance of being at least somewhat productive in the last two years of the deal

Isles signed PAP to a 1 year, 1.25 mil deal

I'm cool with it under the condition that Garth continues to look for trades for better long term options for a top line winger. Until then I'm used to Tavares dragging PAP-caliber players kicking and screaming toward the net

Of course if Barzal shows up in training camp like he did last year he could just make the team and play top line minutes instead and all would be right in the world
