i'm not a huge fan of wheat beers but stuff like Hoegaarden are decent starters for someone new to drinking and thinks lagers taste bad.

Also that image is mostly good but overpriced imports. It's 2016 america has had time to recover from prohibition and has plenty of good domestic micros, if you can't name better beers than those in your region that you could get for a fraction of the price you're probably not as into beers as you think you are.

The reason ipas are a popular microbrew particularly among no name breweries that come and go during the current boom in the industry is because they are particularly forgiving, it's easier to mask smaller mistakes with hoppyness. There are plenty of ipas like deschutes inversion or redhooks longhammer that are smooth as gently caress and just solid beers all around even if you don't have a huge boner for hops.
