They have neighbors that are better but if the general level of English in Germany wasn't enough for you you basically should never travel outside of US/Cananda/UK/Oz. As someone from a second world shithole country that barely speaks any English at all and lived for a year in a country that does speak English very well (Sweden) I can attest that Germany does, in fact, speak English quite well.

I live in a touristy area of a big city (not Paris/NYC big, but big), and when people ask me where a certain thing is, I don't always have an answer

My language has 260 million speakers, but the word for hello has a three letter consonant cluster followed by a four letter consonant cluster, so gently caress if I expect anyone to learn any basic words. Those who try can't pronounce it anyway, 10 times out of 10 I can't recognize the words.
