No, this is something our generation believes because they kept throwing Hugh Grant in every movie for 15 years.

Also Men don’t need to be hot for a people to be hot. British women are amazing, they have giant cans and sexy accents, it doesn’t matter if the average UK dude has the charisma of a pair of rain-soaked sneakers sitting in a dumpster.

The accent is like kryptonite for Americans. Hearing a posh accented girl flirt with you is, just, goddamn.

Also, the more North a Brit is from, the more rad they are, in my opinion. I've never met a Scot I haven't liked.

Speaking of Leftist Busty Brits, Ash Coffin is a decent follow on Twitter.

Heath posted:

This is the kind of impossibly wretched take that a hollow critique of a capitalist society produces and should be used as a textbook example of why it actually is important to dedicate at least some of your time to self-enrichment and, you should probably cover your ears for this one, self-actualization

Self-actualization is at the core of any Marxist critique of capitalism. The concept of alienation stands opposed to self-actualization in that your labor is abstracted from you. You are taken by a capitalist society and put into a job assembling widgets for a pittance that pays enough for you to stay alive and afford your necessities, plus a couple of toys and the occasional vacation perhaps, but the products of your labor are taken from you and your value is extracted, both monetarily and (don't poo poo your pants here) spiritually by taking time away from you to develop your talents or your own personal drives. Human beings generally do find fulfillment in productivity, but that desire is subverted and exploited by capital. It's the same desire that drives people to create art, to garden, to write, to express themselves, all things that get subverted to make money for someone else. Self-actualization is the process of giving a person the means of bringing those products back into their own hands, to give people the time and the freedom to explore themselves physically, spiritually, artistically, all of those things that that little niggling voice that echoes around in your brain pan when you slip your shoes off and say "I really wanted to do that thing, but I'm just so tired..." and you settle into the easy chair and pick up the controller and spend four more hours in the twenty-fifth installment of CoD or whatever the gently caress it is you dull your senses with. And you do it again, and again, and again, and again, and again, while your anxiety keeps building, eats away at your anima like the rust on an old penny, and your lovely little soul is left pitted, old, and discarded at the bottom of the well where you threw it when you wished that you knew why you feel so empty all the time. And then you go through the process of redefining the problem so that actually, it's all neoliberal capitalist brain anyway, because you have no philosophical core besides what you can regurgitate from the rancid hogshit pool that is the online leftist discourse that tells you nothing longer than a tweet is worth thinking about. Thinking, developing a sense of place in the world, all of that is work, and work is bad and sucks, so why would I do that? Why, when I can put on the veil of irony, simply quote something too long for my tastes, and say "lmao?"

A socialism bereft of humanism isn't worth allying with or taking seriously, and self-actualization, self-realization, as a human right and the driving force behind human activity, is dead center at the core of a healthy humanist outlook. Allowing humans to be human, to realize their unique talents and personhood, their identity as a being on this Earth, is the foundation of socialist thought in the postwar era. It's absolutely bizarre to me that no one on the online left ever seems to talk about the actual philosophical basis and tradition that gave rise to what they claim to believe about the world in the first place. To bring it back around to Matt, he seems to be inching closer and closer to this humanism in his talks when he speaks of how it will be necessary for the left to develop an element of "religious faith" in order to succeed -- exactly the kind of animating force outlined by the Humanist Manifesto in its various incarnations since the '40s, something I'm not even sure that he's familiar with. I haven't caught all of his vlogs, so maybe he has discussed it, but I wouldn't be surprised if he hasn't.

But this, this incredibly loving revolting thing you said, dripping with irony because we as a generation have so thoroughly sucked down the irony poison and lol'd and lmao'd about it as it burns through us like Drano through a cheap pipe, should be minted into a brass plaque so you can be slapped across the loving face with it

Powerful "I don't care about sports" energy radiating from this post.

I dunno man. Davos and other rich circlejerk conferences utilize COVID mitigations while telling the rest of us that periodical infections where we put more bullets in the gun after getting got each time are just fine.

It doesn't matter if the COVID thread is right in the wrong way. Turns out, you'll take whatever you can get after public health policy is left to individual mandate.

Other than that, I don't think her life is very interesting. Like, ALMOST having a 3-way but then deciding against it and bolting from the cab seems to have been her "rock bottom" for what she considers her wild years. Her relationship with her ex-husband might have been interesting, but it doesn't get much time. They apparently did a lot of drugs during the 2020 Bernie campaign. I dunno, the memoir parts are pretty dull.

Does she simp about the UK miners union at all?
