Badger of Basra posted:Is this podcast just three dudes saying "cum" a lot as rebellion against the PC police, because that's what this interview makes it seem like Yes, but it's three smart dudes making cum jokes along with layered Marxist references. Imagine clerks if all the characters were poli sci grad students hanging around a lovely apartment playing UFC games on Xbox.

This was the first episode I didnt really like. Felix writes an article and they spend the episode hashing over the thing I read last week. The Vietnam allegory was kind of fun, then they drew it out with the Iraq war and it died. Meh.

emdash posted:First episode of Frost/Christman is out on the Chapo feed now. It's a movie podcast with Matt from Chapo and Amber A'Lee Frost I grew up with a single mom and food stamps. Yeah he's repeating a line, but gently caress that line needs to be repeated. When "food stamp president" is used a slur, we need celebrities and anybody else with a mic in front of them to normalize their experience and validate that loving struggle. I sure as hell needed to be told as a kid that it was going to be alright, that you can climb out of this.

Al-Saqr posted:Well it's not the only reason I listen to the podcast I generally like the informative conversations that inform me about the American political events and narratives while cutting through all the layers of bullshit from the right or from liberal media. I really also enjoy their sense of humor. John Stewart was never the magic of the daily show. It was the writing and the format. Nowhere else could you see a clip of a politician saying X today and then a clip of Exactly-Not-X three months ago. Nobody gave a poo poo about his borscht belt imitations

Freeway Ross Douthat posted:This spirit of political-cultural rebellion is obviously crucial to Trump’s act. As James Parker wrote in The Atlantic, he’s occupying “a space in American politics that is uniquely transgressive, volatile, carnivalesque, and (from a certain angle) punk rock.” (The alt-right-ish columnist Steve Sailer made the punk rock analogy as well.) Like the Sex Pistols, Parker suggests, Trump is out to “upend the culture” — Makes me want to unearth GG Allin and have his corpse poo poo and cum in Ross's mouth.

The weird thing was my dad is a dyed in the wool libertarian. I saw lots of commonalities in the true believers on both sides of that particular divide. I knew who Huey Newton and what COINTELPRO was before I was ten. Best thing I got out of it was that it was a very self-paced, experiential touchy feely kind of place. Got to learn at my own pace. Never took a standardized test until I had to take one to get into a private secondary school. We spent a lot of time outside. As much as I don't dig on the RCP, I really like those ladies.
