I don't think so, because those episodes are all hosted on Soundcloud. Probably the best you can do is download them and be able to play them on the Soundcloud app or the non-podcast iTunes app.

Sucks that soundcloud charges $10/mo for the ability to cache files through the app - that's basically the only reason I haven't backed them on Patreon yet. I pretty much always listen in the car or on the subway and as much as I love this podcast, I can't really justify eating up ~500mb of mobile data every month to hear extra episodes.

I'm glad someone else found it because I'm helpless when it comes to searching twitter for old poo poo, but yeah - there was a week or two where a few pieces and twitter threads like the one Joementum posted popped up and the Chapo guys were tweeting them out.

Edit: Also I'm a dope and didn't realize you could just download soundcloud streams as m4a files so yeah - if you want to listen to the premium episodes without using data and you don't mind not having normal playlist controls, there ya go.

Episode 36 was real bad. The crew just can't understand why Clinton would highlight anti-racist statements from previous republican presidents-- either it's a secret plan to water down progressives in the democratic party or she's just a terrible politician trying to play 12th dimensional chess. Here's a hint guys: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wedge_issue. And then a purported feminist claims that misogyny made Hillary Clinton's career, and those berniebros were just make believe. Jesus Christ, wipe off some of that salt before the next one.

courting Republicans voters by rhetorically separating establishment GOP members from Trump can be sound electoral strategy while also being morally questionable in the long-term because it gives them a pass on all the ways in which they contributed to the creation of Trumpism.

Though the bit about the Clinton project of establishing a dominant center-right party that can hold the left hostage was a bit conspiracy theory-ish, sure.

They worry about downballot races; how are Democrats going to tie their opponents to trump if Hillary just gave them an out? Uh, if moderate republican candidate takes her offer and repudiates Trump, then Trump's loony toons supporters won't vote for moderate republican candidate and he'll lose. This isn't hard.

Here's the thing. Trump's loony toons already hate the "moderate" Republicans and nothing Hillary says will change that. They're not suddenly going to start supporting Paul Ryan because Hillary says he's one of them. On the other hand, tying congressional Republicans to Trump could actually scare off the more mainstream Republican voters, leaving them with no one. Not only does that have some small chance of delivering Congress but it also doesn't require you to make common cause with a bunch of people whose primary distinction from Trump is that they're more coded about their awful views.

The misogyny Hillary faced was not paranoid and cartoonish at the time. More people think it's paranoid and cartoonish today due in no small part to Hillary fighting for decades to beat it back. Suggesting she benefitted from misogyny, due to the opportunity it gave her to get famous by resisting it, erases that struggle. It's like suggesting slavery made Frederick Douglass' career.

This is such an exaggeration of what was said though. The point was that the glass ceiling exists in large part because society normally gets away with a lot of misogyny, but the GOP has overplayed their hand with Clinton to such an extent that it became impossible for society to ignore the sexism it normally does. This doesn't minimize her or any other woman's struggle or take credit away from her, it's just pointing out that people being super obvious about their animus to the point where they forget to code it often supports the argument that said animus exists in the first place.

I mean, would you take issue with saying that images of white southerners beating on peaceful black protesters helped advance the cause of the civil rights movement by forcing the broader public to confront the virulent racism it had previously been content to overlook? Would you be upset with someone saying that footage of police shootings has helped Black Lives Matter gain support and legitimacy?

There's a reason Clinton's campaign has made a point of having her and her female surrogates continually bait Donald Trump. It's because they know that it helps her when he says outrageously sexist poo poo. I don't see what's controversial about this.

Either the Democrats are Good because they are better than the Republicans, or they are Bad because sometimes they fall short on civil rights and racial inequality. You can't believe both at the same time.

Now let me tell you how you only disagree because of your insistence on ideological purity. :psyduck:

This was an interview with a woman whose book was explicitly about diminishing Hillary's feminist accomplishments. The goal of the piece is to take credit away from her. That's exactly what the statement "misogyny made Hillary's career" does.

No, I would have a problem with them saying black americans have benefitted from police brutality.

No, the book is explicitly a critique of the policies Clinton has supported and enacted from a feminist perspective. It is a collection of essays written by a bunch of feminists. I honestly don't know how you arrived at your characterization of it. There are good, legitimate reasons that a lot of people see Hillary as a feminist icon but that doesn't mean she's the ur-feminist and every policy she has ever supported becomes feminist by association. That's absurd.

Also, black americans have not benefited from police brutality, but the movement to end police violence against black Americans has clearly benefited from the most egregious examples of said violence becoming highly visible, which is the actual corollary to Hillary Clinton, since she's a politician trying to implement policy and not just some woman.

quote:

There's a big difference between "Hillary is good at confronting sexism and emerging victorious" and "Hillary benefitted from misogyny."

Nobody's saying she benefited from misogyny. We're saying she's benefited electorally from her opponents being such reprehensible assholes that their misogyny comes to define them. Even against Obama, she got a lot of positive, sympathetic press after he made his lovely comment about her being "likable enough." The fact that his comment made people feel for her obviously does not erase the fact that it was sexist and hurtful.

I agree that it's also true that she's very good at confronting sexism and emerging victorious because, again, you can believe two different ideas at the same time.
