Listening to Chapo Trap House for the first time ever this week has been super, super good. I'm not sure if I actually care about missing out on this initially because it's incredibly refreshing to hear something that isn't incredibly self-serious from before the election. I started with Episode 2, then the latest one (was 60), and then have gone back to Episode 3. Hearing episode 13 the other day can be the next episode and just blame all of the weird verb tenses on a computer glitch or them being super wasted.

It was sitting at 50-50 since the start. Kurt tore through Arthur Chu, Scott Adams, and pissbaby Crowder (who cheesed the gently caress out of his """waterboarding"""). His Carlson and epilepsy meltdown definitely pushed him over the edge.

Whoa, I haven't listened to Proops in a long while. I stopped like 3 or 4 years back because he's so preachy and he's offering simple solutions to complex problems. In the past I would have probably considered him not a terrible stepping stone to bridge the gap to "full communism now", but defending Kurt? Whoof. That hurts. He was funny when I saw him live.

Eh, go watch Mark Blyth's talks on Global Trumpism and the post election discussion. He makes a compelling argument that people affected by rust belt jobs moving south (and then eventually to Mexico/overseas) know what the past 30 years of neoliberal economic policies do since they've been at the poo poo end of the stick. Clinton ran on a campaign of "things are pretty OK if you ask me" and more of the same. It doesn't really need to be repeated, but it's still the clear marker that her campaign was turbofucked: the no name insurgent primary challenger came into striking distance of a nomination that had been hers for almost 3 years.

They actually tried to reason (heh) with A Serious Person at Reason magazine, and every question was met with "the department of education needs to go and I'm not that type of libertarian so I can't comment on it". The prominent alt-right figureheads do the same thing, but throw in a Heil for good luck from time to time; the two people that come to mind are Milo and Sam Hyde, both of them do the dumb song and dance to avoid anything resembling a question (I think Sam Hyde pretended to be his own publicist when being asked about MDE's TV show being canned). Like Dan Nainan would be a more honest debate participant.

It was a solid enough news in review style episode. You can sense that Will has a definite "notice me sempai" vibe going on, but it was good to hear Brenden on the mic. On the AV Club scale, it'd straddle the B-/B line. Also Felix is eternally correct: MGS 2 is the most important game of 2017.
