No Boots on the Ground,
Puny Mortals!

*Click*

The TV screen flickers on, just as a title card in a bold font fades out.

Then, flames rush in from offscreen, quickly engulfing the entire scene. Suddenly, the flames part as if a red curtain, revealing the dark background. Then, a spotlight snaps on, revealing Flaire as she struts towards the camera, snapping her fingers all the while. The camera zooms in on her flashing smile and, as she leans into the camera, her chest. She make a little spin, fanning her hair out which transitions to...

Tatsu stalking through a dark, raining alley with a hood pulled over his head. The vague outline of the team is behind him looking vaguely concerned. He then makes a sharp turn around the corner, and once out of sight, he punches the wall in frustration. He pauses for a moment and then walks past the camera, transitioning to...

Susanna Collins, staring with half lidded eyes eyed at the camera. She's not moving as the background moves in hyperspeed from piano recital to dinner with her family to a movie with Casey. Casey looks away for a moment, and Susanna's eyes snap open as she darts out of frame. She reappears as Barracuda, front-flipping off a tall building at night, looking vital and awake for the first time. Her spin carries her in front of the camera, transitioning to...

Bunny Bat, looking for all the world dead in her coffin, suddenly snaps her eyes open. Then, she yawns and stretches, not so much sitting up as simply rising up out of her coffin as if on a hinge. She winces at the single shaft sunlight leaking into the room through the curtains on the wall, and she grabs a parasol to shield herself from it. Twirling it, she leaves the room, and the door closes behind her, transitioning to...

A silhouette standing on the roof of a skyscraper against a full moon. Red goggles flash in the shadow, and then the light reveals Silver Bolt, who smirks and then jumps, running down the side of the building. Gargoyles and bat-like monsters attack him but he dodges them all and starts shooting his hand crossbow. One of the gargoyles falls in front of the camera, transitioning to...

A quick montage of images:
A pack of mummies advancing towards the camera.
Flaire leaning in (to kiss someone?)
Night Hunter yelling at someone off screen.
Evil Eye and Lag, Bunny Bat's friends, leering for the camera.
A bomb counting down towards zero.

Just before it reaches zero, then the screen goes black. It then fades in to...

A perfectly normal day in front of City Hall.
A bird flies down to land on a powerline and start tweeting. Then, an explosion erupts from off screen, and the bird flies away in a panic!

The camera pans across the street to the The Legerdeman in front of the Halcyon City bank! He's cackling as he waves his staff, and big ol' sacks of money march, Sorcerer's Apprentice style, past the terrified bankgoers who are huddled against the wall in the bank. The moneybags continue down the front steps of the bank and into a waiting, horse-drawn carriage. Only this carriage is pulled by pegasi, meaning he's planning on making an escape by air.

As soon as all of you arrive on the scene (all roughly at the same time, but tell me how you got here and what were you doing beforehand), The Legerdeman starts chanting and waving his staff over the street. A trio of rock golems rip themselves out of the road between you and him. Legerdeman then yells, "Seize them, my earthen slaves! I, your lord and master, command it!" They start stalking towards all of you, while Legerdeman tries to hurry the last few bags of money into the waiting carriage.

Silver Bolt, So, Mr. Team Leader, how comfortable are you with your new responsibility? Also, what did the order teach you about how to fight wizards?
Anyway, time to show your chops! What's the plan?

What do you do?

Tatsu, wow, you were almost elected the leader. What do you think about that? Anyway, this guy... ugh, what a tool. These Golden gen geezers are always clowns. At least this one just seems to want some money, instead of something crazy like turning everyone in town to a playing card or something.
...Still, you're getting a bad feeling about this guy's magic. It seems like he's using the same type of magic as that witch? Not nearly as well, of course, but still... It's really unsettling. Gotta wonder how he got his hands on it, right?

What do you do?

Bunny Bat, Vampires and zombies and wizards, oh my!
But, for real, this should be straightforward, right? It's a villain, he's stealing money, and you're gonna punch him. Simple! ...Shame it's the middle of the day, though. But, still, there's plenty of shade inside the bank and in the alley where the horses are waiting. Anyway, what ominous tidbit did you overhear about this job while you were hanging out with Evil Eye and Luminaera at Mokovski Bar?

What do you do?
Roll your starting move

Flaire, yeah, yeah, this fight's important and all, but it's your first REAL mission with your team. That first time was a good enough showing, and no one really expected you to have a ton of banter or anything. But... now that everyone knows you've taken to hanging out with your new friends, they wanna see the fireworks. They wanna know who to root for and who to boo. And, of course, the shipping has already begun. There's contingents for literally every pairing (and a few trios!) on the team, so... you can basically do whatever you want! Even better if you hint at one without shutting the others down, though, right? Anyway, make sure your audience knows what to think of each of your teammates by the end of the scene, or they'll make their own decisions.

Also, they didn't make you the leader! You actually came in last, with one vote saying, "Anyone but Flaire!" How do you feel about that?

What do you do?

Barracuda, Man, you've never fought a wizard before. This is gonna be super cool! What trick did you learn from your time in the Yard that you wanna try out?
Oh, um. Just pointing out, but city hall is like... right across the street. If things get a just a little more out of hand, you could probably have a good reason to be running through there! Who knows what you might "find" while you're there?!
Just, you know, saying.

What do you do?

You start with one team, and here's the Team move:

When you enter battle against a dangerous foe as a team, add two team to the pool.
● If the leader has Influence over every teammate, add another team. (No)
● If everyone has the same purpose in the fight, add another team. (???)
● If any team member mistrusts the leader or the team, remove a team. (???)
● If your team is ill-prepared or offbalance, remove a team. (No)

The leader of the team can mark a condition to avoid removing a team from the pool.

So, you're starting with 3ish points of team.

No Boots on the Ground,
Puny Mortals!

Bunny Bat, you easily spook the pegasi by giving one of them a nasty bite. You catch a few drops of blood and lick them up. It tasters... exactly like a horse.

How disappointing.

...Unfortunately, the pegasi act just like normal horses, and bolt out into the street as one of them is hurt. You end up getting tossed into a wall of the alley quite violently.

Take a powerful blow and the Pegasai are scared.

What do you do?

Tatsu, sure the golems aren't too smart or fast, but there are three of them. While you're knocking them to the ground, one of them clocks you on the side of the head, sending you tumbling back down the road.

Take a powerful blow and the golems are angry.

They're crawling towards you right now, but it's basically movie zombie situation where you could escape with a brisk walk. On the other hand, they are ripping up the entire street as they crawl towards you...

What do you do?

Silver Bolt, well, you're still the leader, thankfully. Anyway, the only thing he's really paying attention to is the money, so that's probably in the most danger. Especially now that it's in an out of control carriage. As for ending this quickly? If you all jump the wizard at the same time, the fight probably won't last too long, but the carriage with the money will get away. That probably won't look too great, but maybe you can spin it?

What do you do?
That's fine for opening up. Everyone gets that you really appreciated Barracuda for backing you up on this.

Barracuda, well, he's after the money, and the ride carrying all the money. If you can get the money in the city hall, he'll have to chase you.

And... now the ride is out of control and barreling down the street right towards you. Convenient, that.

What do you do?
When you take control of an out of control vehicle, roll +Savior:
On a hit, pick two. On 10+, pick 3.
-It goes where you want.
-There's no collateral damage.
-You don't take a powerful blow.
-The vehicle stays in one piece.

Flaire, talk about no respect! Everyone's clearly rallied around Silver Bolt. At least he was gracious in victory and didn't rub your nose in it. Bunny Bat, though... That was kind of menacing, right? Makes you think about how she made you feel powerless and basically left you for dead, right?

But, as to the matter at hand, heroing 101 says that saving hostages always looks good, and even better, it floods the news with all sorts of reports about how wonderful you are, as every news agency goes to the only eyewitnesses around. Namely, the people you saved. It doesn't even look like The Legerdeman really wanted to keep them around! They just were too scared to move. If you tell them to make a break for it and show that you'll protect them while they do, they'll run up the street to safety.

Which... considering that The Legerdeman won't keep his eyes off you, won't be too hard. He's still talking, "You! I know of you, Flaire, The Eternal Phoenix Reborn! Your magic is almost as great as my own! Become my partner, and we could be unstoppable. Indeed..." He keeps going on and on, but... you get the idea. At least while he's talking, he isn't casting any more spells to take control of the situation. Such as the situation where all the money in his carriage is currently running away. He must be a really big fan to not notice that.
What do you do?
It looks like Bunny Bat told you who you were, and I'd say she shifted your superior down and mundane up. Either accept it, or reject influence.

No Boots on the Ground,
Puny Mortals!

Tatsu, you end up brawling with them before they do too much damage, and they crumple underneath your onslaught. Unfortunately, they crumple right on top of you!
Take A Powerful Blow
Still, that was the last of the golems, and you catch the Legerdeman taking a few steps away from you. He's convinced that you're going to be after him next! He starts to rise into the air, but he's moving slowly... On the other hand, there's a whole lot of panicked people rushing out of city hall now! Barracuda's entrance must have scared them out, and now someone's gotta take care of them.
What do you do?

Flarie, you glance behind you, and it looks like the civilians have gotten away. Man, go you! And then Bunny Bat drops in and just launches into a tirade! You're up here being a legit hero, and she's got the nerve to tear into you right now? And in public?!
Mark angry

Even Legerdeman seems to think it was out of line! He snarls, "You shouldn't talk that way to your betters, child!"

Before he can get another word out though, Tatsu's impressive display and Silver Bolt's salt arrow make him start panicking. He raises his staff, saying, "Let's... let's see how well you do when I take the high ground!" He starts to slowly rise into the air and chant a spell. His staff weakly sparks, and he starts rapidly chanting to try and charge up enough to lash out at everyone (i.e. Silver Bolt and you) nearby. Also, some of that new crowd from City Hall might get hurt if he gets it off!
What do you do?
Also, just wondering, what turns off your powers for a little?

Barracuda, well, if the wall bursting in didn't give everyone a heads up to get out, your announcement does! Everyone in the building pours into the street.

...Which... uh... that's some more crowd to control, but you do have the building to your self at the moment!

Probably!

What do you do?

Bunny Bat, ...Did the villian just brush you off? And say that FLAIRE was more important?!

Ok, no. This is not going to stand.
Mark Angry
What do you do?

Silver Bolt, well, the fight's going well, but between the rush of people potentially running into the fray and Bunny Bat and Flaire sniping at each other, you're not out of the woods yet.
Were you expecting to actually have to play peacekeeper between teammates?
What do you do?

No Boots on the Ground,
Puny Mortals!

Flaire, The Ledgerdeman may not have any passive defenses, but he is expecting an attack from you. As you launch your fireball towards him, he squares up in midair and uses his staff like a baseball bat, swinging for the metaphorical fences. It connects with a loud crackle and sends the fireball towards the sky, where it safely detonates. For what its worth, it was a very impressive blast, and for a brief moment, it almost looks like a second sun in the sky. So, at least you can take comfort in the idea that you're pissing off Bunny Bat even more.

But... while you're distracted by the blinding light, The Ledgerdeman comes up with a new idea. Instead of unleashing the charged up energy onto you and Silver Bolt, he instead blasts Tatsu and all the civilians that way. Thankfully no one seems to be hurt. But, then the loose money from the carriage crash starts papering itself to all of them, as if it were a case of static cling gone crazy! After a few moments, they're all covered with the money, and with one more blast of energy, they start marching towards Silver Bolt, Bunny Bat, and you with their arms outstretched!

The Ledgerdeman cackles, saying, "Yes, my minions! Strike them down!"

What do you do?

Bunny Bat and Silver Bolt ...Welp, that happened.
What do you do?

Tatsu, well, unfortunately, you're now a money mummy. You currently can't really fight back in the cocoon of paper money, but you can at least steer yourself towards one of your teammates. Which one do you go after? Why?

Barracuda, you hear the battle really kicking into high gear outside, with the high point emphasized by a huge, fiery explosion in the sky. But, you focus on the task at hand, and you find some very technical memos talking about new projects that Lazarus Corp is working on, and a few invitations to fundraising dinners that Lazarus Corp is throwing for the mayor. It's nothing concrete, but there's gotta something weird there! After all, you don't throw a $20,000 a plate fund-raiser for a mayor unless you REALLY need something from them. It's a lead!

Oh, and apparently, you and your family is on the guest list. Of course you are.
By the way, before I forget. What do your parents do again? Which job do they expect you to take once you're done with college (and any extra schooling you need for the job they want you to take?)
What do you do?

No Boots on the Ground,
Puny Mortals!

Flaire, covering his face to protect from the fire, you see him think for a moment that he might just be outmatched. That shaken confidence makes him lose his spell, and he starts floating back down below you.

...What goes up, must come down, of course, and your landing is a bit rougher than you'd expect. Especially as the Ledgerdeman sends a gust of wind that blows out the cushion of fire you were planning to land on.
You made him insecure, but take a powerful blow. Also, you're getting drenched by the water, so if you use fire nearby, you'll take a -1 on any roll that uses your powers.

Bunny Bat, The Ledgerdeman, of course, is only floating down just in time to get clobbered by you and Tatsu from behind. As he hits the ground, he's still shaken from your mental assault, but after he gives up maintaining control of the spell, he pulls himself together and glares daggers at you. He roars, "You dare try that trick with me? You have a lot of gall, you monster." He spits out the last word, and it really has some venom behind it.

Looking at the chaos around him, he realizes he's losing control of the situation. As he catches sight of the pegasi flying away, he grips his staff and proclaims, "You don't understand. None of you do! I... I HAVE to have that money!" He's getting desperate and starts channeling a dramatically unsafe amount of energy for a spell. The ground is beginning to shake, debris are levitating, the whole nine yards. Whatever he's doing, it could really hurt someone, even if he's interrupted and loses control of the spell.

...Especially if he loses control of the spell!

You made him angry. He's only got one more condition, so whoever deals with it will basically knock the last fight out of him.

Also, whenever you get around to it, Bunny Bat, you've got a message from one of your friends. You know. Your other friends? By the way, how do they usually get in touch with you?

Silver Bolt, Between Bunny Bat's attempted hypnosis and the rush of water, the paper money loses its magic, freeing the civilians to try and make for safety.

...Unfortunately, you're also partially hosing down Flaire, and that can't be good for her powers.

Now, he's charging up for something big. What do you do?

Barracuda, Bunny Bat snatches Tatsu away before you get to do much of anything, and that just leaves you to try and hustle civilians out of danger's way. But, that's when you find out that Casey is here. Of course he's here. I mean, he probably didn't leave for your recital because he got stuck here by the commotion. He's looks pretty dazed, and there's a bit of blood dripping down from his scalp. There's two very attractive girls about your age trying to help him to safety. They're both asking you to help them get to safety, since Casey only got hurt because he was trying to help them get the mind control money off of them!

What do you do?

Also, as far as the papers go, one: you now know this isn't just another stupid party you have to go to. And two, you collected enough evidence that you might be able to convince someone sympathetic to your story to look further into the mayor.

Tatsu, No respect. First you get turned into a mook for the bad guy, then Bunny Bat uses you as a projectile. You're flat on your back now that the money that was holding you up is flaking away, but that just means you can't get up for a while.

...Well... maybe if you push yourself, you could make due.

If you succeed on a 10+ to unleash your superhuman toughness, you'll be back in the fight. If you get a 7+, you'll take another condition, but you'll be able to act.
Or you can avoid pushing yourself and not risk it.

No Boots on the Ground,
Puny Mortals!

Bunny Bat, after you force the Ledgerdeman to yield, you see him glaring at you with some serious hate in his eyes. You might have thought that his animosity before was because you were trying to stop him from getting away or that he was such a big fan of Flaire's, but no. He's really got it out for you, in particular.

What do you think you did that might have made him hate you so much? Whatever it was, he clearly still views you as a monster, and considering how good of a job you've just done, that's gotta hurt. Even if he is a villain.

Take a powerful (emotional) blow.

But, that aside, you get a message on your league communicator from Evil Eye. Well, a message from Lag from Evil Eye, anyway. Not like they can keep her out of something so simple, right?

quote:

hey bb. need a favor. heard you stopped a bank robbery.
can you get me some of that money? just need a few thou.
got some debts that came up all of a sudden.
oh and don't worry about messing up your new "heroine" thing.
a lot of it is just floating down the drains right so no way theyre expecting to get it all back right?

Note from Lag: Normally I'd tell her to just go rob some convenience store instead of sending this message for her, but EE's was creepily polite and junk.

I'm not sure what's up, but she's looking pretty nervous about this. So, don't complain about it cramping your style or whatever and just do it, ok?

What do you do?

Tatsu, Bunny Bat tosses you over her shoulder like a sack of potatoes. It's... probably kind of embarrassing. Do you protest and say you want to stick around? Or does the idea of going off with her appeal to you?

What do you do?

Flaire, well, your hair is just as frizzy as you expect, and there's so many cameras! Oh well. Guess it can't be helped. And there's something to be said for the "disheveled fighter" look, right?

Anyway, you've made it clear to anyone even half paying attention that you and Bunny Bat are rivals on the team. But what about the others? How are you planning on defining your public relationship with them?

What do you do?

Barracuda, you see Casey looking after you with a dazed grin on his face, and he waves after you as you head back, saying, "Thanks, Barracuda! I'm your biggest fan!"

He's sure never looked that happy to see you when you were just Susanna... Anyway, when you get back to the scene, it looks like everything's all wrapped up. drat it! Sure taking control of the flying stagecoach was kinda fun, but everything else has just been work work work. You're really gonna have to blow off some steam tonight! What are you planning on doing?

And what are you going to do right now? Especially since lots of people are waiting around for interviews?

Silver Bolt, you missed.

You were in a rush, and you missed. Luckily, you didn't hit anyone, but it was just luck. I mean, you were firing towards a crowd of disoriented people.

And you missed.

You even hear one of the bystanders mutter, "Night Hunter woulda made that shot."
Another voice hushes him and says, "Hey, lay off. He's just a kid, alright? He did his best."

You think you recognize the last voice. It's Peter, the Mayor's personal assistant. He's about 25 years old and in good shape. Probably from running around all day to make sure the Mayor's schedule doesn't fall apart. He's normally right by the mayor's side, and it's odd to see him by himself.

Peter's telling you who you are. Namely, 'just a kid.' Lower Superior and raise Mundane, unless you reject his influence.

What do you do?

Everyone, there's surprisingly little collateral damage. There's just a hole in the wall wall on city hall, a damaged fire hydrant, and a few big holes in the street where the golems came from. As far as super villain bank robberies go, that's practically nothing! Pat yourselves on the back!

But, the press has been waiting in the wings, and they got some good shots of the fight. Now, it's time to give the people what they want. Interviews, interviews, interviews!

At least one of you (but all of you can if you want!) should engage with the media, so...

When you make a statement to the cameras, roll + Superior.
On a 10+, choose three.
On a 7-9, choose two.
• you convince the viewing audience to see your team according to a Label of your choice
• your statement will bring you an opportunity from a viewer
• your statement frames you, in particular, as a successful and noteworthy hero of the city; mark potential
• you don’t anger or upset anyone important or powerful with your statement
On a miss, your statement goes awry, and listeners interpret your words in the worst possible way.

No Boots on the Ground,
Puny Mortals!

Newsies, there's a woo from the back of the presser, and pretty much everyone there lets out a friendly laugh. You catch Brian Brocks taking some photos and Tricia Rodriquez-Jones glancing around taking notes before she asks her questions.

There's a few more nice questions like,
"Silver Bolt! So does your team have official league status?" (From Tricia Rodriquez-Jones)
"Flaire! Are you and Silver Bolt in a relationship?"
"Silver Bolt! Do you think that the Ledgerdeman will really change his ways?" (Also from Tricia Rodriquez-Jones)
"Flaire! Which of your new teammates will be the first to do a vlog with you?

After those friendly questions, though, someone yells for attention, and you catch that it's Li Yinde. She's a known newshound, more interested in her readership numbers than the story itself. She doesn't... lie... exactly, but she's more than willing to twist words around to get a good story. Anyway, now that everyone is paying attention to her, she says, "So, why exactly ARE the two of you working with a known menace like *ahem* 'Bunny Bat?' " Her tone drips with derision at the name, but she continues, "I mean, Silver Bolt? Do you think that Night Stalker would be palling around with a villain like her? And Flaire. After what happened... well... most people would think she'd be the last person you'd want to work with. Any comments?"

There's a brief murmur as the lighthearted mood is very audibly killed. Everyone grows quiet and waits for your answers.

What do you do?

Barracuda, you've made it to the Yard without any real problems. You've still got a host of issues to work out, though. There's the whole "My boyfriend that I don't even want might like my alter ego more than me" ...thing, not to mention other questions like: "What should I do about the upcoming dinner with the Mayor," "Do I get the team involved" "How do I explain how I got this info," "Would I have to reveal my identity to make the plan work," and "I really just wanted to hit something today! Was that too much to ask?"

Fortunately, the training dummies in the Yard are built for a beating. Anyway, you've been at it for a while when you hear a voice from right behind you say, "You shouldn't lock your knees so much when you punch. One day, you're going to punch something tougher than you, and you'll end up right on your rear end."

You turn around and spot Night Stalker, right behind you. You get the feeling she's been watching you for a while, and her eyes are still examining you with a clinical dispassion. She asks, "So, I don't suppose there's much of a point of asking how you found out about this place." She shakes her head and sighs at that. Then, she eyes the dummy you've been beating on for at least 20 minutes and dryly says, "So, I take it things didn't go exactly the way you wanted with your first real team mission. What went wrong?"

When you try to tell Night Stalker something not true and she holds influence over you, you have to reject her influence.
She's really scary.

No Boots on the Ground,
Puny Mortals!

Newsies, your answers are just what everyone wanted to hear. There's dignified nodding and scribbling of notes at Silver Bolt's professional responses, and frenzied texting and tweeting at Flaire's teasing answers.

On top of that, the nearby hostages turned bystanders start cheering when they hear how magnanimous the pair of you are being to your newteammate. That's the signal for the reporters to remember that they're still around and most of them rush to get the first interview. Which leaves the two of you basking in the residual glow of all their warm faces.

Honestly? That couldn't have gone much better! One reporter isn't done, though, and Li, after making sure no one else is listening in, says, "Look, I know when I'm being fed a line. How about this? You both tell me what you think of her. What you REALLY think of her, I mean, and I'll make sure you get nothing but good coverage for the foreseeable future with the Halcyon Bugle. I can even make it, 'sources close to the Moonlight Vigil' if you want?"

The Halcyon Bugel is a second tier paper, behind the big duo of the Herald and the Tribune, but still... they've got about a fifth of the city reading their paper. So, dumping on Bunny Bat and getting rewarded for it? It's a sweet deal, right? Even if Li's the one who really needs the exclusive...

What do you do?

You'll get your info from Brian Brocks a bit later, Flaire. One thing at a time, though.

Swordfish, Night Hunter cocks her head slightly, and asks, "So, why did you become a superhero? From the sound of it, no one got hurt, in large part thanks to you. You made sure everyone was safe. That's always a hero's top priority."

She moves on, saying, "But you're having problems with Ni... Bunny Bat." She has to catch herself to use Bunny Bat's new, sillier name. She continues, "I knew it would happen, but I wasn't expecting it this early on." She shakes her head, adding, "I can't imagine what she was thinking, recommending her for this team."

You could get influence over her by defeating a powerful monster. She's a traditionalist like that.
She wants you to look out for Silver Bolt.
She's planning her next big hunt. Between the bandoleer of oils and three different quivers on her back, she's loaded for bear.

She's also telling you what you are. A hero who saves people. +Savior, - Danger.

Dracula: Dead and Loving It, after letting Evil Eye know you've got the money, the pair of you make your own way back to base. It looks like you're the only ones who are back, though. There's a news ticker on the muted TV showing that, as far as the news agencies in the city are concerned, you all did great.

Bunny Bat, so, where are you going to stash the money until you can get it to Evil Eye? How long are you going to make her wait?
Tatsu, after you park the bike, you've had some time to think. Do you think you should tell the others? Or at least do you think that BB should tell them?

What do you do?

Newsies,, Li's nothing but charming and friendly as says, "You guys are clearly on your way up, and I'm going to be there to help you get there." She shrugs, adding, "And I'm not going to pretend it's charity work. This is just good for both of us, right? You get good press, and I get good stories. I've been turning in stories like this for a long time now, and Editorial has my back when I say that I need a story spiked. I've had to drop a story for some other reporters." She drifts off in thought, reminiscing about the ones that got away, then says, "It sucks when it happens, but as long as everyone's playing ball, it isn't too bad."

Flaire, You catch a few of the other reporters looking on as pair of you are giving a private interview with Li, but Tricia Rodriquez-Jones is the only one who seems to be thinking anything other than jealousy. Tricia then turns, leaving for her car as the gaggle of reporters have broken up into their own mini interviews with the. From the sound of it, they're all speaking in glowing terms about you!

Silver Bolt, you're sure she's mostly being honest. She wants the scoop, and she's willing to trade access for good coverage. But, you also get the feeling that she's overselling her influence. She probably can't get any really juicy stories on your team spiked, but she will try to make sure that such stories at least have some good spin on them.

She's a bit jaded to super-heroics, so she's actually not too impressed by the team. But, what would really impress her would be if you saved the day without any help from your team.

As for what she wants right now? She got a pretty solid scoop from Flaire, but if you gave her another angle to bash Bunny Bat, she'd be over the moon. Or you could even humanize Bunny Bat with some interesting details. She doesn't actually care about making Bunny Bat look bad; she just thought that is what you two would want to dish on. All she really wants is a good, exclusive story that's going to sell papers.

Swordfish, she looks at you for a moment, trying to read you, then says, "Well, I suppose if you don't want to talk about your reasons, it'd be rude to pry. Don't worry, I won't go shakedown Cobalt or anything." She gives a grin that... could be a little nasty? Or maybe it's just mischievous? You wonder if she'd actually be able to pry anything out of Cobalt, and... you're actually unsure.

She follows your lead and brushes off the question about Bunny Bat's sponsor, very conspicuously not answering it. But, as you go on to complaining about Bunny Bat, she stops you, saying, "If that's how you feel, tell her that, then. Calmly and rationally. Never complain to people outside your team about a teammate's performance. It solves nothing and only worsens the team's dynamic. Remember, complaints have a way of spreading around, and if your teammate hears them from someone else, they won't be able to trust your word. And in our line of work, that's dangerous."

Dracula: Dead and Loving it, back at the base, you've both blown off a whole lot of steam, and now you're just hanging around, waiting for the others to get back. You even catch most of Flaire's and Silver Bolt's public press conference. Any thoughts?

Bunny Bat: Silver Bolt sure didn't mince any words, huh?
But, more importantly. Tatsu... did he use the L word? That's... that's sudden! Is he a just a good friend or do you think you might REALLY care for him? What do you think you're friends will think of him?

Tatsu, well, you probably weren't expecting that! Do you regret saying any of what you said? Got any plans for the night? Maybe you can tag along with BB after the debrief? Or... do you even want to meet her friends? They're... not exactly the best people, from what you understand.

No Boots on the Ground,
Puny Mortals!

Flaire, while you're rocketing along, you get a phone call. After setting down on a rooftop, you see that it's from Brian Brocks! He starts gushing as soon as you answer, saying, "Flaire! I just wanted to say that interview you gave? When you spoke about Bunny Bat? That was just beautiful and powerful. Such a perspective on being a hero and how it's so much more than being super-powered. I was floored, honestly! But, I've got a great idea now. I want to do a photo-essay with you and Bunny Bat, showing how the two of you were able to work together for the good of the city! What do you think?"

...Pretty much everyone under the age of 35 with a social media account follows Humans of Halcyon City, and your subscribers on your YouTube channel basically doubled overnight last time he talked about you. Who knows what'd happen if he did one of his monthly long form articles about you! ...And Bunny Bat, I guess, but still!

What do you do?

Barracuda, she shakes her head, and says, "It doesn't matter that you're right. It's a bad habit to have." She then nods in approval as you say you'll bring it up at the meeting. She then glances over to the door and coughs, suggesting that you might should leave now. She's probably got her own work to do, and... it is her gym. Well, more of her gym than Silver Bolt's anyway.

Silverfish, you both arrive at the canal tunnel that leads to your secret underground base around the same time. You've both got a bit of a walk until you get in the base proper, so that'll leave plenty of time for conversation.

Barracuda, Uggggh, Night Hunter's such a jerk, right? She might be a hero, but did she have to lecture you the whole time? Like, of course you wouldn't tell normal people about team problems, right?

Anyway, you've had a lot of time to think about the invitation. It's going to be at the Haylcon Resort, right on the water down in Smuggler's Coast. From past experience, everything's going to be in the ballroom on the second floor. So, think you can get the team interested? Also, now that Silver Bolt's here, do you tell him about any of your awkward meeting with Night Hunter? Like, maybe the part that she was decked out way more seriously than normal?

Silver Bolt, maaaaaan, Flaire's not fooling around?! She's really into you??? This is great! Almost enough to make you forget about that humiliating miss in front of everyone, right? And Barracuda's here. She did a pretty good job with the civilians, but she really looked like she worked up a sweat at the Yard. Wonder what's eating her?

Oh, uh, just wondering? Have you been on a date before? Like... ever? As you or your secret identity?

Moonlight Vigil!, well, everyone's had a bit of a breather from the big day, and now everyone's in the lounge for the debrief. The base's computer recorded the interview with Silver Bolt and Flaire, as it will for any other significant mentions of Moonlight Vigil or individual members of the team from major news outlets. Isn't modern technology grand?

Everyone's all in the lounge for the debrief, waiting for presumably Silver Bolt to start, but that's when Wildfire streaks down one of the halls and lands outside the circular conference table you're all assembled at. After he lands, he simply stands there, listening. If you wait for him to say something he simply says, "I'm observing. Continue."

When you try to pierce Wildfire's mask, roll freak. Also, if you do, he always gets to ask a question of you, no matter your result.
When you stare into flame, it stares back.

Bunny Bat Wildfire looks... well, it's hard to tell, but he seems confused. He doesn't get why he has to be here, but he doesn't mind showing up. So, all he's planning on doing is giving a report on the meeting to the other sponsors.

He notices your interest and returns your gaze, looking deep into your own eyes with pupil-less embers where his eyes should be.

What are you really planning?

Flaire, yep, that sure did it! You can be sure that you'll be getting a lot of interesting pictures on your feed. Some of them will even be good! Right now, the major theme appears to be Silver Bolt and you. It's interesting that they decided to try and guess what he looks like under the goggles and such, but maybe the goggles were too hard to draw? Still, that and a few follow-up tweets will be enough to keep them occupied for a while.

Also, Barracuda's chastising Bunny Bat for... for, well, being Bunny Bat. You're totally going to get in on that action... right?

Silver Bolt, he glances in your direction when you mention the League, and you feel him immediately size you up. Then, he slightly turns back to Bunny Bat, examining her. It's like he just doesn't think you're that interesting.

...Ouch.

How could Wildfire get influence over you?
Take Insecure

Everyone just as a reminder, if Flaire (or anyone else, for that matter) helps Barracuda reach seven, someone else can jump in to defend Bunny Bat.

Bunny Bat and Tatsu, also, I'm going to say that your time together counted as "flinging yourself into easy relief," so go ahead and clear hopeless. Could have gone really badly, but fortunately it worked out. This time.

Barracuda, from what you can tell, Wildfire appears to accept Tatsu's interjection as an acceptable response, and Bunny Bat doesn't look phased in the least.

...Maybe you're the one that's overreacting? I mean, Silver Bolt did already give some suggestions on how to improve, and you didn't see a lot of what happened while you were gone, right?

Bunny Bat, you can provoke Barracuda as if you rolled a 10+.

No Boots on the Ground,
Puny Mortals!

Tatsu, well, poo poo. That could have gone a lot better.

Do you think Bunny Bat pushed it too far? What about the others? Or was everyone just overreacting? Anyway, at least you got a roof over your head where you can wait for them to figure poo poo out that doesn't have you mooching off of Nock. When's the last time you talked to him, anyway? What do you do in your room to pass the time (aside from drinking, apparently?!)

Oh, and what omen makes you think that She's going to be popping up within the next few days?

What do you do?

Flaire, well, poo poo. That could have gone a lot better.

Man, for as well as things were going after the press conference, you weren't expecting everything to fall apart that fast. Think this might hurt your chances on making into the big leagues? Either way, you've got plenty of tweeting and other such things to do. After a bit of prodding, you get some pictures that capture your badass side. There's one that's particularly good that has you with with a sort of phoenix shaped flaming aura around you, protecting the civilians from the Legerdeman. You're pretty sure it's probably the best you're gonna get, even though you should probably leave the contest open for a while longer. What's the prize, anyway?

Anyway, while you're taking care of all that, you notice that Firebrand's trending locally! The clips you see of the fight are ok, you suppose. He was brawling with some mutant crystal things down by the bay, and he toasted them pretty hard. But the galling thing? He just brushed off the press after the fight, saying, "I let my actions speak for me. I'm not a flash in the pan searching for the spotlight." You've already got 5 people re-tweeting the clip to you with slight variations on "rekt," "lol," and of course, "buuuuurn."

...AND THAT CLIP IS TRENDING HIGHER THAN YOUR FIGHT!

What an rear end in a top hat!

What do you do?

Barracuda, well, poo poo. That could have gone a lot better.

Still, while you're swinging through the city at night, you do calm down a little. Sure, Bunny Bat was being an rear end, but it did sound like she had something important to talk about under all that, right? Still doesn't justify her being an rear end, of course, but... maybe if it's something to do with the mayor like you suspect, it's worth putting up her bullshit? While you're pondering that, you hear a cry for help! It looks like some fast food worker who just got off their shift is getting held up by a pair of knife wielding punks! Who do you recognize, one of the punks or the fast food worker? Where do you recognize them from and why are you surprised to see them like this?

What do you do?

If you engage them, treat them as an opponent with one condition.

Also, on further reflection, I'll let you clear angry for storming out like that and breaking up the team.

Flaire, you have to wait a while before you get the desired reaction. He obviously doesn't use Twitter all that much. I mean, the last tweet on the account was a month ago, and it was just a re-tweet of the official League twitter account. And he doesn't even have a verified check mark! How embarrassing!

But, someone eventually told him what you said, or he actually checked himself. And, maaaaan, he did he not take it well.

@RealFirebrand posted:

@Flaire: as if I need advice from a showboat like you.

@RealFirebrand posted:

is the idea of not being in the limelight really that painful to you?

...and so on. Yeah, it's fair to say that he's having a full blown twitter meltdown. Maybe he doesn't really get that there are a lot of people watching this conversation? So, do you wanna just let him keep digging, or hand him a shovel?

Also, what are your plans for the rest of the night, aside from being a one woman marketing team?

Barracuda, while the crooks are still looking around for what's making the music, you jump the confused pair. After his head bounces off the street, "Junior" doesn't get back up after you drop him. You do hear him groaning, though, and you doubt a lunk like him is gonna have any long term damage. Thresher's made of sterner stuff, though. You send his knife skittering along the pavement, but he shakes off your blows. Between the music and your sudden appearance, he's still off balance, but he starts to square up with you. You can feel the adrenline start to pump as you get ready for a straight up brawl.

But, before either of you makes another move, there's a loud clash. Thresher lets out a grunt and falls to the ground, revealing the fast food worker holding up a metal trash can lid. She looks over to you and says, "Oh, um. I wasn't sure that'd actually work." She drops it with another clang, and then drops to her knees. Dazed, she looks up at you, saying, "Oh. You're... Barracuda, right? Um... Thanks. A lot. I don't know what I would have done if you wouldn't have come along. I guess I should... go home?"

Clearly, the girl's still in shock from what happened.

What do you do?

Tatsu, as you go out looking for Silver Bolt's room, you spot him right where you left him. In fact, you catch him right after he pulls his mask back on and adjusts it slightly so it fits right. Then, he and BB keep talking. She's also laughing and looking less tightly wound. So, that's good, I guess. Um. Right?

Also, you catch most of their conversation after he puts his mask back on.

Anyway, if you wanna go to Silver Bolt's room, it's right down the hall, but... it's only BB in there with Silver Bolt. You can talk about this in front of her, right? Or... maybe you don't want her to know how lovely things are?

What do you do?

Barracuda, before you pick her up, the teen gives short answers to your questions. "Haley" and "Near Halcyon Bridge," respectively.

After a bit of high line swinging, you take a break and land the two of you on the Ryder Building, notable for containing the very anti-superhero Ryder and Sons Law Firm. Still, you probably won't get in trouble for just enjoying the view.

Haley's calmed down a bit, and between the adrenaline rush of the swinging and the amazing view, she's talking in full, non-stammering sentences now.

"Yeah... I didn't really know what was happening." She actually laughs a little and says, "My brother's not gonna let me hear the end of it. He told me he didn't want me taking night shifts, because I'd be walking to the bus stop in the dark and then I'd get mugged. But, I really wanted the job for the extra money so I could go out with my friends, and that meant I had to work nights..." She trails off, her mind whirring with what's going to happen with her job now.

But, she snaps out of it and looks up at you, eyes wide with recognition as if she'd only just now gotten a good look at you. She says, "Oh! You're with the Moonlight Vigil, right!" Technically, it's a question, but she's so sure of the answer she doesn't stop for you to confirm. She continues, "My big brother works at the bank, and he told me all about how you guys saved him from that wizard. He gives me a lot of grief, like I said, but I don't know what I'd do if anything happened to him. So, I guess this is the second time I should be thanking you."

She smiles up at you, and it's a real, happy smile. She stands up and gives you a hug, saying, "Thanks. You guys were really great."

Silver Bolt

So, your sister answers, saying, "Hello, Colton residence."

"Hey Nika, where's mom?"

"Oh, she's out at work, I think. She wanted to talk about your team's mission, but something came up."

"Something big?"

As you ask, she sounds a little uncomfortable, saying, "Well... she said she was going to stop by the Yard to pick some stuff up, so... probably? As for the mission, from what I saw, it went pretty well." She pauses, and grin clear in her voice, she says, "Well... aside from... you know."

"Ugh, yeah, yeah I KNOW. Won't happen again... Hey did you catch the interview? What did you think about Flaire?"

"I mean, honestly? I always thought she was kinda annoying. Don't really like the whole social media star thing she's trying to get going. But... she seemed a lot nicer during the interview, so I guess she's ok. No need to ask what YOU think of her, though." She's reverted sisterly teasing, the worry from before gone. "

"Do you think I should ask her out? I'm thinking about it."

She laughs, saying, "Whoa there, Romeo. How long have you known her? Like... a week, two tops? Maybe hang out with her a bit more and see what happens." She adds, "Either way, don't worry. I won't tell mom. You know she'd hate the idea. Business is business is business."

"Hey she had us so it can't have always been that way! But... Maybe. I'll think about it."

"I dunno... Maybe with aim like that you're really adopted!" You're now sure you're gonna be hearing about this for a loooooong time.

"If you want to test my aim I can borrow Mr. Snuggles," I said as I threatened her old teddy bear.

You can almost hear the eye roll but she changes subjects, saying, "Anyway, you didn't choke during the interview. Still can't believe you're teamed up with a VAMPIRE though. That's crazy!!!"

"It totally is, but BB's... well, trying. I dunno. It's weird. I think she wants to do the right thing but it's not going to be easy for her. She's totally Dracula's daughter B-T-W."

There's a clatter as she drops the phone when you say that, and then she goes into a rapid fire question mode, "Is... is that like some sort of bad joke? Like, WHAT? Is he going to be dropping in to visit or something? How was this a good idea?!? Does Mom know?"

*laughs* "Nope I am dead serious. I have no idea if Mom knows, I wanted to ask her. I mean it seems like something she SHOULD know, right? But she didn't tell me, so maybe not?" I hadn't thought about Dracula coming to visit. That was kinda terrifying. "I hope she's cut ties with him but maybe I should ask..."

"...So... do you think it's really going to work or are you gonna have to..." She trails off, letting you fill in the blanks.

"...um, well, I'm just watching for now. If something like that happens I guess... I'd do what I have to. It's just... I mean I've talked to her, I know her name."

"Mom always said that makes it harder..."

She snorts, annoyed, and adds, "It's not fair! You're a real hero, and she's some monster out on parole. You shouldn't have to worry about saving the day AND keeping an eye on her."

"If you're worried about me, make me some more citrus grenades. I'm almost out," I said. "I gotta go, just wanted to check in and see what was up."

"Yeah, I'm holding down the fort fine. Don't forget to do your homework though! ...That was from mom, by the way. ...And I'll think about it. Anyway, talk to you later."

"I did it already!" I said, looking at the stack of books on the desk guiltily. "Careful, sis, or you're gonna turn into Mom before you know it."

"Ugh, then I could at least go out at night like the two of you!"

"I can't wait until I can leave all the sewer slimes and stuff to you," I said. "Love ya."

"You too, dork."

Bunny Bat, after spending the night patching things up with your team (...mostly), you head back out to make the delivery to Evil Eye. Lag's waiting there with her, but she doesn't look up from her phone as you come in. The expression on Evil Eye's face is palpable when you show up, but she waits until you sit down to say anything. She leans over, saying, "So... you came through, mate?" When you reveal the money, she sighs and collapses back into the booth. Without looking up, Lag says, "So, what have we learned, Eye?"

She begrudgingly says, "Yeah, yeah. I won't put things off forever, ok?"

After a bit of background explanation, you gather that this Jump Cut guy can control what cameras see. He's recently been threatening some small time crooks into paying protection so he doesn't rob some place looking like them, but now he's stepping up into the super-powered world and threatening powered villains with the same deal. He's really smart about it too. No one knows what he looks like because the messages are always written down and... well... no cameras.

Evil Eye adds, "Caught that fight of yours. Guess Ledgerdork might as well not have bothered, since he's just getting what he'd have gotten if he'd just sat himself down on the couch and waited for some superpowered goody two shoes to bust down his door." She gives a nasty smile and adds, "So... you and the fire girl are working together, huh? When you gonna bring her 'round here? She'd love a rematch, I bet."

Lag snorts, but still not looking up from her phone, says, "She spends all her time online. It's really surprising she manages to get any heroing done."

The rest of the night is pretty uneventful, but Evil Eye does make sure to thank you again before you go. She asks, "So, when you coming back by the hideout again? Let me know, and we'll make a right party out of it."

Clear two obligation with Evil Eye.

Barracuda, the girl's eyes go wide as she says, "Wow, thanks! You're the best!"

She's still waving and grinning as you swing off, and drat, that's got to feel good.

...Shame you didn't ever get that fight, though.

Flaire and Barracuda assuming you spend the night together, what normal, teenage subject comes up that you both talk about? Also, Barracuda, have you spent much time in Flaire's room before? What do you think of it, especially the part where it looks like she just lives here now? Just wondering, you ever thought of doing that? You don't seem all that thrilled with your parents or your "boyfriend."

Tatsu, well, poo poo, this night ended up a lot better than it could have, right? Do you go hang out with BB at the bar when she leaves? If so, Evil Eye assumes that you're her boyfriend, and no amount of protestations will convince her otherwise. Lag, for her part, mostly ignores you, but then her eyes go wide for a moment, and she shows Evil Eye something on her phone. Evil Eye looks up at you, triumphant, saying, "That explains it! You're both deaders! You got a list of coroner's reports half way across the country!"

Anyway, what trick are you going to be on the look out for that She just loves using?

____________________________________________

The Next Day

Silver Bolt, you wake up to find yourself CC'd on an email to the team sponsors. It contains your team's performance review, written by Wildfire. Some choice quotes:

"Leader gave useful field instructions that were followed reasonably well by team."
"Team performed well under pressure."
"Team discussed shortcomings and how to avoid them."

And finally:
"Performance: Above Average."

...That could have been a lot worse! Looks like you lucked out with Wildfire being your observer. Still, you probably won't be so lucky next time. How are you going to make sure the next team meeting isn't as much a fiasco like last time?

What do you do?

Barracuda, well, you knew it was coming, but you probably were hoping to put it off longer. But, by hook or by crook, Casey got you to agree to a date this afternoon. Where are you going, and why do you REALLY not want to go, aside from the company? How'd he sucker you into it, anyway?

Anyway, that's not for hours. Did you spend the night here? If so, what did you tell your parents? If not, what do you tell them about the bags under your eyes? What's your plan for the day up until your date?

Bunny Bat, assuming you got in touch with him to get the money you're planning on giving Flaire, you'll have to wait a bit for Dracula to get here, but once you find him, he'll . (He can move pretty fast when he wants to, but he's not great with technology. It takes a while to get any response. Usually at least a day.)

Anyway, you do have a bit of schoolwork to do as part of your league agreement. What weird message have you gotten from one of Flaire's fans? What's your plan for the day?

Flaire, what are you going to do today to impress your fans? Also, you have to schedule that photoshoot. And you should probably make sure BB's actually down with it first? Also there's the vlog to make it clear to your fans that you're both cool now.

Man, being a superhero is so much work! Good thing you love it so much!

Tatsu, yeah, you're sure of it. She's in the city, and She brought a few friends with her. You'll know 'em as soon as you see 'em, but what precautions do you want to take? Why were you planning on going out today, anyway?

Time passes for moves. Barracuda already rolled and got a partial, choosing to have her boyfriend obligation come up.

Flaire, well your fans are there as always, perpetually waiting for the attention. They're still excited from the twitter exchange last night. So, what's the plan for the Vlog, anyway? Who do you tap to get some help on Bunny Bat's Halycon City History report?

...I mean, you're not going to waste the whole morning doing all the research yourself, right?

Oh, and by the way, you probably should come up with a prize for the fan art contest. There's the usual suggestions for celebrities (date with the winner, tour of the base, sidekick for a day, etc), but a few more unique suggestions also make it through your feed. Like, singing a song of their choice and posting it online, live-streaming you doing a movie marathon picked by the winner, or even just introducing them to the rest of the team.

Which one of those new ones is never going to happen and why? Also, what prize do you pick?

Barracuda and Silver Bolt, the two of you are getting your fair share of gawkers, but they're all staying well out of earshot. Oddly, as Silver Bolt noticed, you're not the only suit on the course. In fact, now that he turned around to tap his last shot in, it looks like... Ledgerdeman?

What. The. Hell.

What do you do?

Bunny Bat, well, now that you've offloaded that chore, you've got some decisions to make. Do you have anything you want to prepare for the vlog? ...Do you know what a Vlog is? Also, now that it looks like you'll have the morning free, what do you like to do in your free time? Also, do you mind that your friends basically think you and Tatsu are dating?

Tatsu, who's working at the auto shop that recognizes you? Do you ever let anyone work on your bike but you?

Also, which person in here reeks of Her magic?

What do you do?

Barracuda and Silver Bolt, as both of you keep an eye on him, he obliviously makes his way to the next hole. He drops his ball on the mat and then gives it a sharp tap. It rolls down the green, banks off a pair of rocks, and stops just short of the hole. He glances to either side, and then he makes a slight gesture with his hand. Suddenly, his ball lurches forward and drops into the hole. You watch as he smugly writes down a hole in one on the par 4 hole.

Cheating at mini-golf. The fiend.

What do you do?

Tatsu, Well... you could just... give up? Or, well, "give up." I mean, her flunkies aren't that smart, and it'd keep this from getting out of hand while people were around. Just go with him for a while until you see a chance to make a break for it. But, that might be your style, so the alternatives are fight or flee. Fighting here would put people in danger, but you might get lucky and finish him before her other minions got in place to corner you. While, if you ran for it, they'd surely have time to catch up with you, but you could move this somewhere less crowded.

...Yeah, if there was any doubt, you feel that there's a few more around the block to your left, so if you make a run for it, go right. You'll be headed towards Halycon City High School, but it's Saturday, so... no worries about catching anyone in the crossfire. And, hey, if it gets smashed up, you'll REALLY be a hero to the other students.

What do you do?

Flaire, after you successfully fob off the assignment on Marida, you go back to basking the adoration of you online audience. But, 15 minutes later, you get an email from Marida.

So, that's why you're now waiting outside the Galaxy Arcade. There's no sign of her, yet. Thankfully, you've got a full battery and plenty of time to kill. ...and is that Tatsu across the street? Huh, he looks like he's in a rush for some reason.

What do you do when you get to the park (after Barracuda and Silver Bolt act, first)?

Barracuda, Ledgerdeman stumbles and falls on his butt, looking up in surprise as you loom over him. But, he looks away, saying, "My council has decreed that I should only discuss the forthcoming legal skirmishes with them, and I shall abide by their wishes." Then he looks up says, a little unsure of himself, "And... I haven't performed any action that would be considered a breech of my release upon good behavior! You are harassing me for no reason, knave!"

Take +1 forward against him, as you've thrown him off balance. Both figuratively and literally.

He then adds in a petulant tone, "In addition, I was simply correcting a flaw in this unkempt green! If the course was not so poorly kept as to develop lumps, my original stroke would have struck true!"

What do you do?

Silver Bolt, while Barracuda runs off, you get a text from your sister:

quote:

Mom didn't come home last night. You heard from her?

Now Barracuda's on the windmill and Bunny Bat's on her way.

What do you do?

Flaire and Tatsu, the two waiting around the corner move towards Tatsu as he yells out his challenge. However, before they can give chase, Flaire lets loose with her blinding attack.

Tatsu, take +1 forward against the trio of puppets, as they were rushing towards you when Flaire blinded them.

Now, the three of them are in the middle of the street, stumbling and groping the air in front of them. However, there's a teenage couple who were either too starstruck or too curious to avoid looking at the obvious trap, and they're also stumbling around in the group.

Flaire, why do you recognize the boy from school, even a year after you dropped out?

Tatsu, from the few times you've been to school in the last month, the girl made an impression on you. How?

What do you do?

No Boots on the Ground,
Puny Mortals!

Silver Bolt, you head for the parking lot and make for your cycle. As you head for home, I'm sure all sorts of bad memories pop up. Like... When's the last time your mom REALLY got hurt? How long was she out of commission?

Nika's waiting for you at home, sitting at the kitchen table assembling a citrus grenade. When she sees you come in, she drops everything and runs to give you a hug. She says, "Gramps is on his way, so he should be here soon." She pauses and looks up to you, as she asks, "I mean... she's probably fine, right? We're just doing this because it's what she taught us to do... right?"

She doesn't look at all sure.

What do you do?

Barracuda, Ledgerdeman puffs up in defiance of your threats to report his "bad" behavior to Flaire and says, "If the Sorcerous of Flame wishes to partner with me in order rid the city of the scourge you speak of, I would be happy to assist her! If you choose to relay that message, I would be most welcome!"

As the two of you stare each other down, Silver Bolt yells that he's gotta go and then... well... bolts.

...uh... that probably wasn't good. Silver Bolt looks pretty freaked, and Ledgerdeman looks after him, worried. He looks up at you, drops the pretentious manner, and says, "Um, you think he's ok?"

What do you do?

Bunny Bat, after you have your very awkward train ride, you get there in time to see Barracuda perched up on a windmill above Ledgerdeman, and Silver Bolt tearing out of the parking lot.

What do you do?

Tatsu, you do what you do best, weaving in and out of their powerful blows all while tossing them around like rag dolls. You do notice that they're taking damage much easier than you are, and they don't seem to be healing either. However, one of the pair you're fighting seems to be getting their vision back as he actually blocks one of your blows. Still, these chumps must have been a rush job.

What do you do?

They're afraid. Not of you, perse, but you all know how She treats failures.

Flaire, as you lead the others out of the fray, a fat, middle aged asian man roars and charges at you. You nimbly dodge out of the way of his blind flailing, but then you see him catch a corner of the building and knocking it clean off. You hear a sickening crunch as his hand visibly breaks in multiple places, but he doesn't seem to mind as he readjusts and charges in your direction. Unfortunately, the pair of civilians are behind you at the moment, so dodging again like that is out of the question.

What do you do?

No Boots on the Ground,
Puny Mortals!

Silver Bolt, she quickly nods and says, "I'll be right back." She runs inside and returns with a collapsible steel baton that she slides under the basement lock to pry it up. After the two of you give the lock a few solid pulls, it snaps off. If asked about the baton, she says, sheepishly, "Well... I've... sort of snuck into the Yard to do some personal combat training on my own. Don't tell Mom, ok?"

Of course, the REAL lock on the basement door at the bottom of the stairs is much more formidable, but thankfully, it's got a fingerprint scanner that both of you can open with no problem. Mom may not have wanted you casually snooping around down here, but she's always thinking ahead about these sorts of things.

What's the workshop look like, anyway? Generally speaking, I mean. Because right now... it looks basically like that, except maybe short a few supplies. Nika bites her lip and then asks, "Now what?"

What do you do?

Barracuda, the petulant putt putt cheat folds his arms in the way that only petulant teens can manage, before remembering his persona. He scrambles around for a moment, flustered, before remembering himself. He says, in a grave tone, "That information is the only guarantee that I have that Miss Flaire will return to see me, so I am afraid I must decline." He looks hopeful for a second and asks, "Maybe you could call her, and we could all meet in order to go and apprehend that blackguard!"

What do you do?

Bunny Bat, you catch most of the conversation as you eavesdrop from around the corner. Short version: They're worried about their superhero mom, because she's missing. You have any theories as to what happened to her, by the way?

Anyway, now you've got yourself a bit of a quandary. You might want to keep following to see what's up, but... sneaking into a hunter's basement workshop, right behind a pair of young, jumpy hunters? That... doesn't strike you as the best of ideas. Even if you don't get staked, if you're caught, Silver Bolt sure won't be too happy, and he's already go to bat for you a few times.

That's when you get a message on your team communicator. It... doesn't seem to match any of the contacts on it, but after the screen crakles a few times, the name appears at the top of the message.

Hey, know you've been busy being a good two shoes lately, but I really need a favor.

Right now there's a guy that's got me more or less trapped in at the Galaxy Arcade.

He's not coming in, but I'm not going out. But it closes in three hours, and then he's probably going to beat the crap out of me.

If you can come by and do a little of that scary vampire stuff to get him off my back, I'd appreciate it.

Come on, just like old times, right?

So, what do you do?

Tatsu, Speaking of training, these are much more impressive than the last set of hounds She'd set on you. She's getting better! ...Now that's a scary thought. But, it does looks like there were some trade offs with Her current method. As you trade punches, you can see their skin start to peel and flake off, revealing the thick, grey hide beneath the papery disguise. And whether they're just faster than you expected or that disgusting revelation distracted you, one of them gives you a nasty haymaker that sends you flying back into a nearby dumpster, leaving a sizable dent as you bounce off and fall to the ground.

Take a powerful blow

The two of them are closing in as you hear Jace yell "Tatsu!" in a horrified voice. She's starts to run over to help you up, but the guy pulls her back, trying to get the both of them out of the line of fire. The shout distracts one of the hounds approaching you, and after a moment, the wheels begin to turn in its cruel little mind. You see it break off from the other one, and instead rush the pair of them!

What do you do?

Flaire, Turns out the answer is yes! He can take a sudden heat spike just fine, as demonstrated by how he just runs right through your firestorm. You try to duck to the side, but one of his outstretched arms clotheslines you.

Take a powerful blow

That's gotta hurt! Still, at least Matt (?) and his girlfriend (???) ducked like you said. But... well, if Matt's a fan, he's sure to how you try to portray yourself as a professional. And professionals don't get bowled over by mooks. You're either gonna have to REALLY impress him with the rest of the fight or somehow bribe the hell out of him. At least, if you don't mind being the butt of your twitter feed's jokes for the next few days.

Anyway, you're flat on your butt, head probably pounding, and one of those nasty zombie things is looming over you while another one is running towards Matt and the girl with violence in its eyes. What do you do?

Anyway, what do you do?

No Boots on the Ground,
Puny Mortals!

Silver Bolt, well, you HAVE been trained in investigation by your mother, after all, even if you're nowhere near her level, you find a few interesting things.

First off, upon closer inspection, all of the high end, dangerous stuff? The high explosive bombs and the pure silver bolts? That's all gone. ...And... whatever she went after? She must have been in a hurry. Normally there's a "You take it, you replace it" policy on this sort of thing. Not that anyone's going to be checking up on her workshop too often, but it's just good practice to leave replacements brewing. And you know that your mother is nothing if not a paragon of discipline, so she neglect that unless she was in a BIG hurry.

As for contacting her? Well... she apparently broke one of her league communicators, and it's still sitting out on workbench. It's still busted, but if you find someone who could fix it... you'd be able to read all of her messages. Which on the one hand would probably enough to tell you where she went, but on the other hand, hooooooooo boy, who knows what else you'd find on there?

What do you do?

Barracuda, as you wait for a response, you check the time. You figure you have an hour till you have to be at your date. What are you gonna wear? Do you have a plan on... well... not being miserable?

Bunny Bat, the trip across town to Galaxy Arcade is just as awkward as the trip to the park, but soon enough you arrive. The first thing you notice is a league hero sitting in the middle of the street outside of the arcade. You recognize him as Perseus, a hero famed for slaying wild monsters. Considering all the super science and magic rituals gone awry, he's pretty busy nowadays.

The arcade windows are filled with gawking faces, staring out at the street. But, as he sees you approach, he stands up, and walks over to you. Any hesitation you might have about his motives are dismissed as he sticks his hand out and gives you a firm, respectful handshake, saying, "Bunny Bat! It's great to finally see you! I always suspected you weren't the monster everyone had you pegged for, and I'm glad to see that you're doing your best to help people now. You all did great yesterday! Now... is there something I can help you with?"

...Well, that's got to be a refreshing change of pace. Also, you spot Lag peeking out one of the windows, watching you. What do you do?

He's telling you what you are. Namely, a legit hero-in-training. -1 Freak, +1 Savior.

Tatsu and Flaire, you both manage to protect the civies. After a bit more skirmishing, the two of you square up with the three of them.

Flaire: Just as a heads up, you've still got to impress Matt if you're going to get out of this with your rep intact. How do you plan to showboat for him?

Also, you get a notification on your communicator that Barracuda's trying to get you to come help convince a freshly released Ledgerdeman. But, uh, you got your hands a little full right now. Also, WHAT?! That was fast, right?

Tatsu: You can that these guys are doing a bit of a rope-a-dope, with the pair of you as the dopes. Also, what's up with Flaire being here, anyway? Do you wish it was just you right now, or are you actually thankful for the help?

No Boots on the Ground,

Bunny Bat, he laughs and claps you on the back REALLY hard before he says, "Maybe, but the classics never go out of style, right?"

He does frown when you mention the disturbance, saying, "Well, I'm afraid I can't leave quite yet. There's a villain hiding out in there that I'm after. For some reason, she's been causing quite the ruckus with the traffic lights around here, and since I was in the neighborhood..." From the way he trails off, it's clear he'd much rather be out hunting monsters, but he's a dutiful league member who's going on the incident he was assigned.

Embarrassed, he adds, "I'm waiting out here because.... I was banned from the Arcade after I broke their strength tester last time I was here." He coughs and quickly moves on, "Anyway, I look forward to hearing more about your good work, Bunny Bat!" He gives you another hard clap on the back and returns to his vigil.

Also, you get Silver Bolt's text, which... yeah, Lag could probably help, but don't you have a favor you want to ask Lag? What do you do?

You've got a feeling that he's not really used to dealing with real people, so he's a bit of a soft touch. If you get Lag to apologize and make restitution somehow, he'll let her go with only a lecture.
If you resolve this peacefully in a way that doesn't result in him waiting around all day, he'll be convinced you're working hard about being a real hero, and you'll get influence over him.
As of now, he intends to wait until the Arcade closes and Lag gets tossed out so he can confront her.

Barracuda, hard plastic chairs, droning music, and the smell of lovely food and shittier beer. Yep, nothing like baseball.

Which of your high society friends is there at the game too? It's a bit unfortunate they can't save you from the date, but you do have a nice little chat that distracts you for... one measly out?!

This truly is hell.

Casey keeps talking about scores and percentages and other baseball minute. He really is into this sort of thing. What do you try to steer the conversation to in order to make the time pass semi-pleasantly? He's happy to get to spend time with you, so he'll mostly talk about anything you show significant interest in. But he'll always bring it back around to baseball if there's a long enough lull in the conversation.

Eventually Casey actually changes the subject away from baseball after he checks his phone for a moment. He cocks his head, looking confused for a moment before asking you, "You know a lot about Barracuda, right? Did you know she's gay? I had no idea!"

If you, quite understandably, are confused by this "revelation," he shows you a tweet from Flaire's page.

That's... not what you meant. Er, I mean, it wasn't, right? Do you think Flaire really thought there was something more going on? Or was that just to feed her social media scene?

What do you do?

Silver Bolt, she says, "Yeah, you got it." All the posturing and playful threats from last night are nowhere to be found as she gives you a big hug, and she adds, "And be safe, ok?"

So, while you wait for Bunny Bat to respond, you think a bit more about her. Do you think Bunny Bat had an ulterior motives in following you home? You know that Mom would freak the hell out if she found out that Bunny Bat knows where you and your family live.

While you're pondering all of this, the team's automatic news filter sends you a link to the newly published article by Li Yinde. The title of the article reads: "Sources close to Moonlight Vigil question Bunny Bat's reform, suggest she is danger to her team and others."

Speaking of, you spot some choice quotes:

"They pointed to the lack of restitution she made for her string of cruel and vicious assaults across the city, even victimizing one of her current teammates as proof that she has yet to turn over a new leaf."
"...skeptical of her ability to even function as a team player..."
"A knowledgeable source asserted that almost no vampire has managed to remain on the straight and narrow for long."

You keep reading, but it doesn't get any better. Do you feel bad about giving the info in hindsight? Do you think Bunny Bat is going to blame you and/or Flaire?

What do you do?

Tatsu and Flaire your combo attack goes off great! Flaire catches one of them with the whip, decapitating him. His body instantly begins dissolving into dust. Tatsu, you have to really work the guy over, but eventually, you feel the web of magic holding him up fracture and he too starts dissolving in your arms.

Which leaves the last one, the middle aged asian "man." Taking advantage of the sudden slackness of Tatsu's grip caused by the disintegrating body, he bum rushes Flaire again. But, this time, you're ready for it, Flaire. You turn in a tight circle and whirl your whip around, sending it right towards his head. Suddenly, his jaw distends, and he swallows the flame whip, sucking it up as if it were a stray bit of pasta.

But, it looks like that extra bit of magic was a step too far. He lurches forward a few more steps before tumbling to the ground. He begins to swell and glow white hot. Tatsu, you manage to take cover behind a dumpster, but Flaire... The fire may not hurt you, Flaire, but the explosion does lift you off your feet and send you flying into one of the walls nearby.

Take a powerful blow

As the dust clears, it looks like the pair of civilians managed to duck into an alleyway. There's a sizable crater in the middle of the street, though. Still, that does look to be the fight.

What do you do?

No Boots on the Ground,
Puny Mortals!

Barracuda, he shrugs noncommittally when you start talking about Flaire, saying, "I guess I've heard some of the guys talking about her. She looks nice, I guess. A bit... uh... flamboyant? I guess?" You can feel him reaching for some sort of verbiage that doesn't deny her obvious attractiveness while also avoids heading into into jealous waters with you. He continues, "Anyway, I don't know if that was a good idea. At the very least, they're probably going to get in some hot water from some of the older heroes. I mean, yeah they're heroes, but they're still... kinda old. And... Oh! Pop fly!"
Yep, the puppy found another squirrel.

He's just planning on having a good time with you, and he's happy that you're happy. Or... uh... "happy," anyway. Oddly, he also keeps shifting in his seat, making sure you don't get a good look at his backpack. You're pretty sure he's got a gift for you in it.

The bottom of the fourth passes without incident, but right at the top of the fifth, the Calliope music that's been drilling into your brain for what seems like forever mercifully cuts out. However, it is replaced with the sound of a Spanish guitar strumming a lullaby! A man in a red tunic, gold pants, a domino mask, and red boots plays the guitar you're hearing as he strides out onto the field from the dugout. He looks like he could be in his late 50s, but he's still looking pretty fit for his age. In addition, his blond hair doesn't seem to have a strand of grey in it. You can see the crowd falling back into their seats, sleeping, and he's already singing his instructions to his compatriot that slunk out with him. This guy looks much younger and... uh... gothier. Like, rail thin, skin tight pants, and a long, black coat with nothing underneath, revealing a pale chest with intertwining tatoos. His hair is long enough that it hides half of his face, and the other half is gaunt and emotionless.

"Solace, go to the toooop
up to the boooox.
Take all you fiiiiiind,
no matter what kiiiind."

After the instructions, Solace(?) sighs and starts slowly flying up towards your box! You see Casey's head start to droop, but when he hears that they're going to be coming for the boxes, he jolts upright! He grabs your hand and pulls you up, saying, "We gotta get out of here!" Thankfully, the sudden burst of adrenaline you got from seeing some villains actually causing trouble is enough to keep you awake for now, but you're not sure how you'll fare if you go up head to head with the masked musician.
What do you do?

Silver Bolt, as you're headed towards the arcade, you get another notice. This one is from the League, saying that there's a disturbance at the baseball field, and you're one of the closest heroes. In addition, Barracuda's communicator is actually there, at the game!
What do you do?

Tatsu and Flaire, the crowd's cheers as the last zombie explodes drowns out Tatsu's objection, and now it's nothing but good vibes since you're all obviously getting along! Even Tatsu's got a few people crowding around him, cheering and taking pictures of him.

Tatsu: This is loving bullshit. Flaire must lead a charmed life or something. But, this public praise, thing... How do you like it? Think you could get used to being the center of attention in a positive way? Jace pushes through, saying, "Tatsu! You were amazing! I can't wait to tell everyone at school!!!"

What do you do?

Flaire: Well, that was lucky! Matt's applauding with the rest of them, but he still doesn't seem to recognize you. He does seem impressed, at least. He's just reaching into his pocket for a camera, not really making any moves to get closer to talk or anything. However, Tatsu appearst to know the girl? Do you wish that Matt had recognized you? Would you want that personal praise

Also, now that you have a chance to check, your post has been blowing up! You're getting all sorts of mentions, and your fans are already thinking that Silver Bolt's old news. That's... uh... well, he's probably gonna be a bit confused when he gets the news.

What do you do?

Bunny Bat, he frowns at the thought of you spending time with your old compatriots, "I hope you're not letting them be a bad influence on you. But... if she's willing to make up for all the havoc she caused, I suppose I could let her go with a warning..." He trails off, still unsure if it's ok, but he doesn't push it.

As you walk into the arcade, the crowd immediately parts, instantly revealing Lag, who'd been one of the many faces staring out the window at you. She shoots the crowd a dirty look for giving her up so easy, but when she sees that it's just you, she packs up her laptop and says, "Ok, so what's the plan? How are we getting out of here?"

What do you do?

Also, you still have a text from Silver Bolt to answer. Or you could leave him on the hook a little while longer~

No Boots on the Ground,
Puny Mortals!

Barracuda, the baseball strikes Solace right between the eyes, but it just bounces off harmlessly. He flies up to get a better view of what hit him, and when he sees the pair of you running off together, he gets a creepy smile on his face. He flies down to pick up a baseball, and then he circles around to the stairs to get a better shot. Then, he lets fly a blinding fastball that catches Casey right in the leg.

You hear a sickening crack, and Casey's face goes pale as collapses to the ground. He tries to stand up, but the second he tries to move his left leg, he screams in pain. Solace looks pleased with himself, then as the music continues echoing throughout the stadium, he remembers what he's there for. He sighs and says, "Oh right. I'm supposed to ask for valuables or something?" He reaches behind him and pulls out a burlap sack that he holds out as if it were dirty. He's staring at you intently, waiting for something.

Oh, and also, did you keep your team communicator on you? Because if so, you've got a notice that there's something going on at the baseball stadium! Handy, right? Also Silver Bolt lets you know he's on his way.

What do you do?

Silver Bolt, as you run into the stadium, you see the floating goth guy hovering over two civilians, one of which is injured! ...And he's trying to rob them. You think, anyway.

What do you do?

Tatsu, she looks at you, confused, "But... you saved us! You're a hero, Tatsu!" You see your opening and muscle through the crowd. A few people look disappointed that you're leaving so soon, but the rest just crowd in to get closer to Flaire. Jace, for her part, follows you and says, a little disappointed, "I mean... if you don't want me to, I won't talk about it, I guess. I just think that people should know what a great person you are, and I don't know why you don't want them to know?"

What do you do?

Flaire, ah, isn't this the best? Cameras, Fans, Attention? No one asks you any questions about the tweet, yet, so that's nice. And you even get a response from Merida.

From Merida posted:

Bunny Bat's here and she's talking sense into people, so I think things are gonna be ok.
If you wanna still hang out, though, I'm gonna be here a bit. Would love to hear about it!

After a little while longer, though, the crowd disperses. It's the middle of the day, and people do have things to do, after all. That's... fine, right? Or did you want them to stay longer?

Anyway, Matt's still hanging around. Once's it's just the two of you (more or less), he gives you a bit of a funny look, and says, "So... Thanks again. But... you... seemed like you know me. Do I know you?" He's not sure what to think, but he's leaning towards yes. And he doesn't even seem to notice that the girl he was with went off with Tatsu. What do you think's up there?

What do you do?

Bunny Bat, you see her Lag's face sour when you mention community service, but she sighs and says, "Luminaera wanted a distraction, and she's been doing all the cleaning for the hideout for the last few weeks. She said she'd stop holding it over my head if I distracted the League for a bit, and this seemed like a low-risk way of getting them chasing their tails. But... someone here was looking over my shoulder and ratted me out." She throws a significant look over your shoulder, and you catch someone ducking back into the crowd as they notice her glance. She rolls her eyes and says, "I'll take care of them later, but Luminaera isn't worth all the poo poo I'm going through now. So, sure. I won't do it again, and I'll help you with whatever little science project you need."

That's basically what you need, right? And... what about that bystander she's going to mess with later? Think you should do something about that, or not your problem?

No Boots on the Ground,
Puny Mortals!

Barracuda, he looks immensely satisfied with himself as you throw the necklace past him, but he doesn't even look at the necklace as it goes flying past him. Instead, he's just staring at you as you run.

...What a creep.

Casey's wincing as you carry him. His leg is bouncing as you run, and his hand is squeezing your shoulder painfully. But, he's still conscious, and he's not screaming anymore. You make it down the ramp and into a bathroom. Placing him gently down on the ground, he looks up at you, pale faced, and whispers, "Thanks. You're amazing, Suzy." He gently re-positions himself so he can lean against the wall and says, "Heroes should be on their way, so we just have to hole up here for a little." He squeezes your hand and gives you a weak smile as he adds, "Don't worry. We're gonna be fine."

Also, who gave you that necklace? Was it important, aside from being valuable?

What do you do?

Silver Bolt, after a moment, you recognize the pair of teens. Casey and Susanna are basically the power couple of Halycon Academy, as both of their parents are both incredibly rich and powerful while they're both super talented and popular. Anyway, Susanna easily picks up Casey and makes a run for it! Doesn't even look like she's struggling in the least. That's pretty impressive! Still, you've got goth kid to worry about. He forgets about the bag as soon as it's out of sight, but the surprise of your sudden appearance makes him fly back through the air in surprise. He yells down to the field where the middle aged villain is still strumming away "Uh, Songbird, there's some hero here. What do I do now?"

Solace marks Insecure

The stadium's sound system responds:

"A hero here, for me?
Entagled in a fight with thee?
Dispose of him, quick as a flash.
And get back to getting cash!"

Solace looks lost for a second, then shrugs, saying, "I guess I can just wring you dry and get back to work." He meets your eyes and says, completely deadpan, "Please try to feel at least a little afraid, though. I'd appreciate it." Suddenly, he extends his arms and launches himself through the air, right at you!

What do you do?

Tatsu, her eyes narrow as you raise your voice, and she yells back, "You think I didn't know that they were after you? I was there, remember? They weren't too quiet about it." She takes a few steps closer to you and then pokes in the you in the chest a few times, saying, "But you know what else? You DIDN'T (*poke*) run. You DIDN'T (*poke*) let other people get hurt. And it ISN'T (*poke*) your fault if other people start trouble with you! So don't go telling me you're secretly evil or whatever. You and your friend were heroes, whether you want to believe it or not." She's right next to you, glaring up into your face from just a few steps away.

Suddenly, you remember the last time someone told you something like that. It was Bunny Bat, and Jace seems to be looking at you like she was a few days ago. ...Well, maybe a bit more irritated, but she clearly thinks you're someone better than you think you are. She just wants you to realize that.

What do you do?

Bunny Bat, Perceus strokes his chin, thinking about it then says, "As long as she doesn't do something like this again... I guess I can let her go. No one got hurt, after all. I'll check in with Silver Bolt to see how she did, so try your best!" He gives her a punch on the arm (which makes her wince and start rubbing her arm) and then gives you a salute before bounding off down the street!

Lag lets out a petulant sigh and says, "Well... what's the job, Nighty? Let's get this over with." She still hasn't taken to calling you by your new hero name. Didn't you used to go by Night Stalker? Anyway, if Silver Bolt doesn't answer, you can trace his communicator to the Stadium. Or you could wait for him to be done and try to meet up with Luminaera to see how she's doing nowadays.

What do you do?

Flarie, for a moment, he looks skeptical, like this is some sort of joke. Then his eyes widen in shock as a bolt of recognition strikes him.

"You... you're Elyse?!"

He gawks at you before breaking out into a big grin and giving you a great, big hug

"You are, aren't you! You look... wow... you look amazing." He steps back out of the hug and flushes, stumbling over his words as he continues, "Uh, not that you weren't great before, but uh, you just really look... different."

Actually, how's he changed? For the better or worse?

After a moment, he calms down and, he starts thinking more rationally, saying, "But... you've been like this for a while, right? Is this why you ran away? Did your parents kick you out or something?" He bites his lip and adds, "Why'd you stay away so long? I really missed you."

In addition to the confusion of how to take this, he actually looks a little hurt.

No Boots on the Ground,
Puny Mortals!

Silver Bolt, your shot catches him right in the cheek and sends him cartwheeling back through the air! He shakes his head to clear it. Then, he raises his arm over his head, and a jet black orb appears in it. He hurls it at you, but you roll right under it and launch another pair of bolts. But, as the sphere passes by you, you feel... a little afraid! That's some spooky black energy! Who knows what that could do to you!

...As it flies past, though, it doesn't seem so bad. It would have hurt, yeah, but you'd have survived if it had hit you. In fact, after eating another pair of bolts, Solace seems to agree that you've got the upper hand, turning tail and fleeing towards the ramp!

Solace marks afraid

You spot Barracuda coming up the ramp and standing between him and freedom. You could try to make sure Solace doesn't get away. On the other hand, the Scarlet Songbird is still on the pitcher's mound. Now the audience has started to march down to the field and is putting valuables in a few different sacks. But... how are you going to get close without falling asleep? It's one thing if it's coming through the speakers. It's another to get close to his hypnotic mandolin!

What do you do?

Barracuda he waves of the necklace, saying, "Don't... worry about it. It's just a necklace. Not worth you getting hurt over." He's less ok with you going out for help, but as he tries to get up, he rises only an inch before having to fall back down. Realizing it's not like he can stop you, he just says, "Be careful, ok?" He squeezes your hand and says, "And please come back in one piece?"

After slipping into the other bathroom, you barely make it back to the fight when you see Solace flying right at you! He got a nasty looking bruise on his cheek, and it looks like he's hi-tailing it from Silver Bolt.

What do you do?

Tatsu, she's getting worked up throughout your story, and right when you end, she finally boils over. She yells, "Fine! If that's how you feel, then I'll just go tell everyone about what happened, and let THEM decide!" She whirls around and storms out of the alley towards Flaire and the boy from before, leaving you alone.

What do you do?

Flaire, he listens closely as you explain what happened. He's still a little upset, but after a moment, he nods and says, "Yeah, that makes sense, I guess."

He shakes his head and grins, "Ah, what am I doing. Like I could stay mad at you, El- er... Flaire." He gives you another hug and starts laughing, "It's so great to see you! It's like you came back from the dead or something! And back there!" He gestures towards the remnants of the fight on the street. "You were fantastic! I mean, I've watched some news stuff and YouTube videos before, but it's totally different being here!" He starts miming some of the moves (poorly) and then laughs as he starts to lose his balance.

He looks incredulous when you ask him to keep it a secret. He lets out a *pshaw* and says, "Of course I won't tell anyone! We're best friends!"

Then, his eyes go wide when you invite him to the base, and he says, "Yeah! That sounds amazing! Just let me know when! You still have my number?" He pauses as he thinks about the implications of you still having it and says, "Well... probably not. Here, let me write it down for you."

That's when you hear some yelling and the girl that he was with before comes storming out of the alley. You catch a glimpse of Tatsu down there. She makes a beeline for Matt. He winces and says, "Don't know what got into her, but I probably need to go. We're working on a project for science class, and I haven't gotten doused in toxic waste recently, so..." He shrugs, a bit bemused and then says, "Definitely catch up later, though! It's really amazing seeing you again!"

That was nice, huh? ...The other girl, though... She seemed a bit bent out of shape. And was Matt... into her? Or was he just wanting to get the project done? Does it really matter to you?

What do you do?

Bunny Bat, you half drag Lag away from the arcade with you. After a block or so, she's sullenly walking under her own power to the monorail station, just in time to see Flaire in the middle of the street. There's some signs of a fight, and Tatsu's lurking over in an alley. As soon as she sees the scene, Lag taps the side of her head as she tries to remember something. Then, it comes to her. "Isn't that the girl you and Eye did a number on? Looks like she and your boyfriend had some fun?"

What do you do?

No Boots on the Ground,
Puny Mortals!

Silver Bolt, your aim is dead on, but the Scarlet Songbird makes a run for it. Despite his age, it looks like he's still pretty spry. And now that you've got his attention, he focuses his magical music on you, causing you to drift off for a moment. Before you know it, your grip slips, and you take a tumble right into the seats.

Take a powerful blow

In addition, it looks like your crossbows are tangled up in the grappling hook line, a good 20 feet up! Scarlet Songbird looks excited to see you and directs his music back to the crowd emptying their pockets into the sacks on the field.

With a grin, he crows, "Ah ha! You dealt with my minion, but you have yet to deal with the mastermind! I only hope you won't take your failure too hard, son!"

What do you do?

Barracuda, you're standing over Solace, who's holding his leg and howling in pain. He doesn't look like he's got any fight left in him, and he just looks up sullenly at you.

Solace markes hopeless.

However, you've got a problem. It looks like Silver Bolt ate some chair, and the bad guy's closing in on him!

What do you do?

Tatsu, Flaire's practically an open book to you. She's always so overeager, and this is no exception. Now... what would a gloryhound like her be getting out of this...

Act as if you rolled 10+ on Pierce the Mask.

No Boots on the Ground,
Puny Mortals!

Silver Bolt, looks like Barracuda had an odd idea about helping after you took a nasty fall, but... it sort of works. The blaring siren distracts him enough to give you a clean shot. The arrow bounces off the mandolin(stupid cheaty magic), but it does fly out of his hands, landing between first base and the dugout. Panicking, he tries to run for his mandolin, but that's when the crowd goes wild! Between the sudden fire alarm and Scarlet Songbird losing his mandolin, the crowd is panicking and running for the exits, tossing you and him every which way. Songbird, for his part, is trying to weave his way through the crowd. He's got some pretty good moves for a middle aged guy, but he's not making much progress.

Take a powerful blow and Songbird is insecure.

What do you do?

Barracuda, as you slam the fire alarm, the music cuts out as well. There's a single moment of stillness across the stadium, which is promptly shattered by everyone in the stadium running for the exit! You end up trapped in the stampede, getting hit and trampled every which way.

Take a powerful blow from the stampeding crowd!

Down on the field, it's a riot! No one knows what to do, and both Silver Bolt and Barracuda are caught up in it! What do you do?

Flaire, you text Marida about the possibility of meeting a whole superhero team, and she's there in a flash. She's grinning as soon as she rounds the corner and sees the three of you (plus Lag).

Talked about this bit in IRC

Bunny Bat, Lag groans at the mention of going all the way to the stadium and says, "Is this gonna be an all day thing or something? I thought I was just gonna play tech support and then bugger off. I did have plans."

Team BESTEST FRIENDS, First off, how do you get there in a hurry, and three of you (Lag and Marida) don't really have a good way to move quickly, right? After all, you're across town from the stadium.

Anyway, after Barracuda and Silver Bolt make their moves, you all arrive at the stadium. Lag and Marida duitifuly wait outside. Mardia pulls out a little notepad and starts writing while glancing at each of you, while Lag pulls out her laptop and sits on the hood of a car. After a moment, she's dead to the world as she's locked into... whatever she's doing.

What do you do?

Puny Mortals!

Flaire, the fireman who lent it to you said that you could have it as long as you turned out for a fundraiser for the local fire department. It's set for a week from today, and it's going to be an all day thing. Just gotta be there, play nice, and be the draw for the crowds.

Honestly, sounds like he's doing you a solid both ways, but that's just me.

____________________________________________

Barracuda, you take a tumble and fall right back into the crowd, none of whom seem to care too much about your superhero status as they panic to get out!

Take a powerful blow

Your tumble lands you at the feet of you to the feet of Hannah pushing her way through the crowd. She looks at you shocked for a moment, then she glares at you and yells, "Get out of my way! I'm trying to find my friends!" She's not making much headway against the press of people, tiny thing that she is. In fact, she gets pushed back to the ground!

What do you do?

Silver Bolt, he tries to slide under the line, but his arm gets caught on the line, sending him tumbling through the crowd.

Songbird marks afraid.

He glances over at the Mandolin, knowing that he can't get it in time. You see his heart break as he realizes that he has to leave it behind. But, he turns to look at you, puzzled, then relieved. The last thing you see before the world goes blindingly bright is him grinning and covering his eyes.

Flaire, you're fine, of course, but as you can hear, your teammates are less than lucky, not to mention the crowd! What was a panicked crowd is now a panicked, blinded crowd! Also, the Scarlet Songbird is trying to escape into the crowd!

What do you do?

Everyone on the field, you're blinded, courtesy of Flaire! Make sure to account for the fact you can't see in your next move.

Silver Bolt, After that, you feel him jump on top of the line you're holding. Before you have a chance to think, he dashes across it with surprising grace for his age and yells, "Make sure you tell them that I, the Scarlet Songbird, outwitted you today!"

Then, he's gone. You're down on the ground, and you can feel the crowd around you thinning some, but... there's still plenty of people here! Someone's gonna get hurt if things don't calm down!

What do you do?

Bunny Bat, closing your eyes and listening for heartbeats... isn't the brightest (pun intended) move right now. You're annoyed with Flaire, with getting judged as a villain, and who knows what else. And in all your running around, you forgot to eat! You need blood, and you need it now! What do you do?

Tatsu, you charge and end up knocking down a good dozen or so walls to make your way into the stadium. Fortunately, you don't hurt anyone, and even open up another way for the panicked crowd to get out! Good job! Unfortunately, the crowds are occupying the whole passage, keeping your friends stuck outside from joining up with you.

What do you do?

Silver Bolt, you strum along, but no one seems to be paying attention. Guess you're not much of a minstrel, so now you're just on the field playing a guitar while people are getting hurt!

Mark Insecure

What do you do?

Barracuda, While you protect Hannah from the stampede, you end up eating a few kicks yourself.

Take yet another powerful blow.

Despite Silver Bolts efforts, the stands are still a madhouse, but the field is clearing out, thanks to Tatsu's hole in the wall. You hear some people yell in pain! This is out of control!

What do you do?

Flaire, Flaire, your attack sends tumbling end over end into one of the abandoned concession stands. Before you can do anything, Bunny Bat rushes after him. As you dash over to the stand, you see her pin him to the ground and start biting his neck!

Flaire, take influence over Bunny Bat

Bunny Bat, you're sated for now, but Songbird is looking pretty pale with a bloody neck. On top of that, Flaire's watching you! That's... gonna be awkward to explain.

What do you do?

Tatsu, you take a quiet moment to try and figure out what's going on, but there's too much chaos. After a little while, though, your sight comes back, but things up in the stands have degenerated to a riotous mob. And you were just sitting down here with your hand on the ground...

Everyone, despite your best efforts, the mob doesn't get any better. The chaos just spirals further out of control, and after the stands finally clear out, all you're left with is a few dozen people too injured to move. Fortunately, the wailing sirens outside tell you that help is here for those that were injured. A few crews of paramedics rush in and start assisting the bloodied people on the ground.

The stadium is eerily empty, what with the only people still here being the paramedics and the injured. Oddly, the press hasn't shown up yet, but if you stick around long enough, they'll be sure to be here.

Bunny Bat, Oh God. This really went south, didn't it? And you were doing so well today!

You can clean yourself up back here, but... what are you going to do with Scarlet Songbird? He's unconscious from loss of blood, and Flaire saw you! Not to mention all the paramedics.

Lag's still hanging around, though. ...Maybe she could bail you out of this somehow? But you've gotta make sure Flaire's not gonna blab, either!
What do you do?

Flaire, Bunny Bat really can't control herself, can she? She's gotta be a menace! Are you going to tell anyone about what she did? Anyone outside the team? I mean, do you even want to be with her on the team anymore?

Also, you manage to hear a few of the people who were injured talking about how impressive your opening attack was, since when they all managed to see again, you guys had taken care of Songbird.

...It's a bit more complicated than that, but hey, it worked out, right?

What's in danger/is dangerous? Outside of Songbird and Bunny Bat? ...Not a lot, really. Even Bunny Bat looks sated, thankfully. These people are gonna end up in the hospital, for sure, but they'll be more or less fine with some time.

As for impressing people... well, if you manage to work the crowd into helping you with the inevitable press gaggle, that'll go a long way to getting people to overlook the whole "uncontrolled riot" thing.

You spend a point of Time for the Show to get the crowd on your side, which will help with some of the fallout.

What do you do?

Barracuda, Unfortunately, the sound panel outwitted you, and you were just left yelling in a room by yourself. By the time you get back down to the press of people, it's already over.

Well, at least you got an ok fight in? Feeling a bit looser, I hope?

Also, what are you going to do about your boyfriend? He's stuck in the bathroom, probably worried sick about you! Just wondering, how long did it take you to remember him?

Or, you could just slip away and not have to deal with the team. Silver Bolt saw you here, of course, but... if you're trying to separate yourself from the team, hanging around for interviews with them isn't a great step forward.

What do you do?

Tatsu, looks like you're the only one who managed to do crowd control well, as demonstrated by the lack of people still on the field. Good for you!
Anyway, Flaire just made everything complicated again, like she always does. Still, you gonna stick around or gonna head back out?

Silver Bolt, oh man, that was a disaster! Figure you got a lot of thinking to do, but in the meantime, some irritated goth looking girl manages to find you and say, "Hey, BB told me you had something for me to look at?"

After a moment of understandable confusion, she adds, irritatedly, "I'm a friend of Bunny Bats, and I'm doing her a favor. Now hand over that communicator so I can finish up this bout with community service and get out of here."

She glances around as if finally seeing the place and adds, "Wow. You guys really scrubbed it up, huh?"

When you lean down to help him up, he leans over and gives you a kiss on the cheek, saying, "I'm glad you're ok." He takes a deep breath as you pull him up and lurches to his good leg. He gasps and ends up putting a lot of his weight on you. He apologies for it, but it's not really hard for you in the least."

As he looks around at the remains of the fight outside, he says, "Wow... things sure got crazy out here..."

He looks at you, saying, "How'd the fight go? You see any more of it? Was Barracuda here?"

Chimera leaps into a fray of enemies, growing multiple tentacle arms and grabbing a bunch of them. Shots bounce off her suddenly stone-hard skin, throwing up sparks. Her arms lengthen and flow into claws that drag the ground and dig out gouges in the asphalt before

A falling steel sword that stops right before impaling itself upon the ground. Hovering for a moment, it turns in midair and launches back up towards a burning building. It is joined by quartet of swords fly in from off-screen and slice a hole in the wall that Mithril jumps through. The camera pauses on a shot of the building for a moment, then she leaps out of an upper window carrying a small child in her arms and the child's parents float down beside her. Damascus looks on from a distant rooftop in an inscrutable pose.

A quick montage of images:
A panicked mob running from something behind them
A levitating knife suddenly flinging itself towards Barracuda's face
Two darkened figures kissing in the dark, with the moon peeking through the window behind them.
Solace looking bored before hurling a dumpster towards the camera.
A yacht sinking into the water, billowing smoke. The smoke congeals into a figure who starts cackling as the screen fades to black.

It then fades in to...

A black title card reading One Week Later.

Then, there's a quick shot of the team crouched down behind some cars when an explosion right in front of the makeshift cover causes smoke and dust to rush past the frames of the car. Peeking over the cars gives you a glimpse of Doctor Bad Guy, the cackling madman raining down energy blasts from atop the school! You can see the small silhouettes of the civilians you're supposed to be protecting through the window on the first floor, but at the moment, there's the little problem of the endless torrent of thunderbolts raining down around you. He then starts yelling about all the injustices this cruel world has heaped atop him, and how he's going to show them. Show them all!

But, by this point, the "cackling madman" (more commonly known to the world as the Storm King) has put you through your paces over the last few days, leading your team through some crowd control training (along with a bit of specialized training for each of you) after the last debacle He looks like Santa in a toga, if Santa cut the cookies and milk and hit the gym every day since December 26th. In 1980. Right now he's wearing a baklava over his head that reads "Bad Guy."

He's obviously having a fantastic time.

The camera zooms out more and the whole place looks more like a movie set out in the woods. The street isn't longer than a block, and while the school has a few rooms stacked on top of each other, the surrounding building are just wooden backgrounds. Anyway, the goal right now is to make sure that none of the civilians in the wooden facade of a school get hurt and then take Doctor Bad Guy down with minimal collateral damage, all in that order.

Good luck!

Barracuda, how'd you get convinced to go through this with the rest of the team? I mean, the League never really got the memo that you quit, but... still.
Also, how are you dealing with the sudden camping trip and your social/family life?
What'd your special training with the Storm King consist of?
Don't forget to roll for time passing.

Chimera, whew, talk about hitting the ground running. How'd your introduction to the team go, anyway?
Also, what's been the most uncomfortable thing you've had to put up with because of your unique physiology and the fact that you're all basically camping out in the woods?
What'd your special training with the Storm King consist of?

Flaire, So, what important thing did Marida have that she just had to talk to you in person? Have you told anyone else about BB's... uh... problem during the whole baseball incident?
Also, what have you been doing about the whole "No pictures at the training camp. This place is secret. I'm serious, Flaire." rule that the Storm King laid out on the first day? What are you promising your fans to make up for it?
What'd your special training with the Storm King consist of?

Mithril, whew, talk about hitting the ground running. How'd your introduction to the team go, anyway?
You haven't seen Damascus around, but do you really think he's letting you off on your own without hanging around to keep an eye on you?
What'd your special training with the Storm King consist of?

Silver Bolt, still haven't heard from your mom, huh? That's... gotta be pretty rough. How's your sister taking it? Who's the league got looking into it?
Also, how are you feeling about the whole baseball... incident? Who do you blame for things going so poorly?
What'd your special training with the Storm King consist of?

Tatsu, well, as far as the league's concerned, you're about the only one who came through that debacle looking good. What do you think of that?
Also, sucks that Bunny Bat got removed from the team for some one on one mentor time. You doing ok? Or are you already moving on?
What'd your special training with the Storm King consist of?

Everyone, roll Savior to see how you've been doing at Super Hero boot camp so far:
On a hit, you impress the Storm King with your performance; take Influence over him.
On a 7-9, you've been banged up pretty good over the last few days. Mark a condition, your choice.
On a miss, you broke one of the rules of the tests or damaged the facilities permanently. What happened?
Also, your sponsor's going to be getting an earful from the Storm King

Do advancement for last session, if you aren't some of the new blood. Also, as we've got some new blood, that means new team leader.
Possibly.

Also, if I brushed over something that you want to be resolved or come up after camp, let me know in the OOC thread.

No Boots on the Ground,
Puny Mortals!

Chimera, as your form distends and wraps around "Doctor Bad Guy," he tries to fling you off, but the shout in his face really seemed to get his dander up. You've still got him wrapped up, but lighting bolts are raining down all along the street!

Storm King marks Angry

While he's flailing, he sends a particulrarly large bolt towards your team's cover, to send it flying away!

What do you do?

Flaire, ...At least, that's probably what he was aiming for, but your blinding attack made him send it hurtling overhead and into the woods! Good job! He's going to be blinded for a few more moments, and it looks like that one took a lot out of him. You'll probably be more or less safe behind cover for the rest of the fight.

What do you do now?

Barracuda,... Ok, that wasn't normal. You're still getting used to having a weird shapeshifter on the team, and something about the way she moved and screamed was just... wrong.

Mark Afraid from Chimera's disturbing attack

Combined with the sudden burst of lightning... and you've got way more energy coming in than you're prepared for!

Take a powerful blow

What do you do?

Tatsu, while you're jumping out to try and give Barracuda into some cover from the storm, the Storm King flails on the roof even harder than before, knocking down one of the fake walls. That's when the doors of the front of the "school" fly open, sending panicked civilians running up and down the street.

...Well, panicked drones are running up and down the street, but this is just a drill after all. And with the lightning bolts raining down, they're not going to last very long unless someone does something...

What do you do?

Mithril, As you're looking up and down the street, the drones are going to be zapped pretty good unless something's done about the bolts raining down. If you could get them out of the line of fire, the Storm King would probably wind the training exercise down, since he's not here for a brawl but to test your skills protecting civilians.

What do you do?

Silver Bolt, well, since Flaire blinded the Storm King, getting inside is pretty easy now! But, all the drones are outside, so that's probably less than helpful. However, you can tell that, while the bolts raining down may be dangerous for the team and the drones, if the Storm King gets loose, he could easily start picking them off one at a time with focused blasts. If he's kept occupied, all he can do is rain down random destruction. Not super safe either, but much better than the alternative.

Chimera, as you wrap around him and pull his arms back, he doesn't stop unleashing electric blasts! You'll have to let him go, or you'll have to take a powerful blow!

What do you do?

Flaire, he drops to the ground, sending your flame shooting off into the sky, but you catch him glance at you, eyes wide for a second.

You wonder if you might have overdone it a little.

Dr. Badguy takes Afraid

What do you do?

Mithril, you guide the drones towards the newly made bunker, but you catch one of the bolts to the back as you turn to guide the last of them in.

Take a powerful blow.

What do you do?

Tatsu and Silver Bolt, the pair of you manage to make a safe place for the robots that Mithril herds towards you, and they all get under cover with only a bit of soot on them to suggest that they barely made it through a violent electric storm.

But... now you've got a giant, electric charged spike hanging over everyone's heads. You see Dr. Bad Guy get a look at it and start to do... something with it.

What do you do?

Barracuda, flung away from everyone else, you've at least got a good vantage point to watch the action.

While you're getting back in the fight, who impressed you most so far during the training?

Assuming the wheels don't come off of anyone's plan, we're gonna wrap this training up after one more set of posts
