I wanted to know what plate spinning actually looked like after watching the plate spinning bit in Gamera vs. Gaos. I looked up a clip from the Ed Sullivan show and I must say it's one of the goofiest forms of entertainment I've ever seen: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zhoos1oY404 It's kind of impressive at the very end when he gets everything spinning, but how many times does he have to jerk off those sticks just keep things going? I guess TV has evolved. It's probably still better than current network late night TV, I guess.

zoux posted:They just started a stream-ever-ep-in-order-a-thon It's been a while since I last saw S1 episodes, and it's just painful how loving low energy the riffing is. Just dudes vaguely mumbling their way through movies. Trace is great as Crow, but Joel and J. Elvis are just unbearable.

I saw an interview segment with Josh, one of the things he talked about was how the show evolved after season one. I don't know if it was a literal target but he said that they were going at a 4 RPM (riff per minute) rate when 8 was probably better. That's actually measurable, I'd be interesting to see what the RPM was from s1 to comedy central era to syfy era to the new era.

And the Netflix eps feel like they have 20 riffs a minute. I understand that was part of a corporate mandate determined by usage metrics like everything at Netflix, but it's unmedicated theater kid levels of riffing. Glad they were free to be more chilled out for the last season.

S1 is fine, it’s more like an MTV-generation kinda show where you watch a movie with buddies and talk about it. It’s just kinda its own thing. Also Josh is the funniest person in that season. A re-riff of that season would be great though.

Josh is fine as Dr Erhardt but his Servo is just so monotone it doesn’t really give Joel and Trace a lot to work off of. He got much better when he came back for later projects though

By the end of the season Josh had warmed up. Untamed Youth is really fun.
