Son of Sam-I-Am posted:Before the new cast, I never realized, at least to the degree I do now, how much Kevin's Servo was the heart of the show for me. His voice is just so melodious and versatile, and he always threw a lot more genuine emotion into his performance. Kevin's Servo has always been my favourite too.

rydiafan posted:He kept offering the guys messy red foods during piranha attack scenes. The joke was the unappetizing nature of the food given his timing. It would be like him offering them chocolate pudding when there was poop on the screen. The food jokes didn't really land for me either, but I quite liked Growler's payoff of the running "Universal Studios" joke.

That said I'd like to hear kinga and tv's son of tv's frank suffer one long horrible movie. Its kind of funny that I'm moaning about vocal minor details in a show taking the piss out of movies with none of them. Just bugs me that gypsy just appears, says one thing I've never laughed at and the cast don't respond to in movie. They need to dip more toes in. Have you watched Killer Fish yet?

Dawgstar posted:Oh, it's fun, don't get me wrong and would in fact also be a great MST/RiffTrax even if it's probably too expensive for both (not counting a 'just the jokes' from RT). It's really not that riffable. It's a rock-solid movie that makes its own jokes. For a movie to be riffable, it ideally needs to be something that's either just absolutely terrible, or tries and fails due to lack of effort/talent/money/originality.

Big Mean Jerk posted:Semi-related, but once a month or so Trace and Frank host an “open-mic riffing” thing at their show and I can’t even imagine how excruciating that must be. Not just unrehearsed amateur riffing, but unrehearsed amateur riffing where the riffer is probably trying extra-hard to make Trace & Frank laugh. They record it and make some guy in a jumpsuit watch each session alongside his two robot buddies.

Quote-Unquote posted:I'm very new to MST3k (watched a few random episodes many years ago) but Netflix UK kept been pushing The Return/Gauntlet so I started watching it and loved it. Only a few 'classics' of older seasons are available in the UK though, and there doesn't appear to be any legitimate way of watching the rest of them without spending many hundreds of pounds. The MST3K channel on Youtube has a bunch of episodes up to watch freely, and you shouldn't feel bad about watching pirated episodes on random youtube uploads or wherever the way you may feel about doing so for other shows - the mantra of the fanbase (and the show creators) is "keep circulating the tapes", specifically because a lot of episodes just will likely never see an official release due to licensing issues.

I'm actually okay with the Netflix seasons having a bare-minimum arc stringing them together, just because it IS in a format where they're more likely to be viewed in order. If not binged (THE ~GAUNT~LET~).

But then again its production was a mess with a whole bunch of cut content (both involving This Island Earth and the host segments themselves) so it’s probably a small miracle it turned out as well as it actually did. Their budget went to Barb Wire instead.
