My rainbow tells me not to be gullible enough to think a game will be good based on a different game's hype. It also tells me not to believe any game will be good based on hype, which might sound super crazy at first but you gotta trust your feelings after you live and learn.

They should be reading at least as much into this as I am, it's their job. And I'm not accusing Arby's or Webber of incompetence, either - I think both teams are doing very good jobs of targeting an audience online. I just think their methods range from "willfully negligent" to "actively despicable" when it comes to engaging with things like the rise of anime pedophilia and worldwide fascism.

I think Sonic Mania 2 is totally being worked on right now, but is not the game they alluded to yesterday. Mania will probably be announce relatively close to its release.

I think they have a vague concept that there will be a game in future and that's it like when they were in the leadup to the 25th anniversary and went 'oh poo poo people are expecting a game!' and threw something together.

Sonic Forces would be straight-up improved if they reduced the godawful classic Sonic sections. Like, the modern stages are bad, but they're short. The OC stages are also mostly bad, but the gameplay is pretty okay and it's fun to make ridiculous characters.

Like, the Sonic Generations was so good, you know? So why was Forces so, so bad?

Seriously, I still can't believe how bad the classic Sonic levels felt when they were pretty fine in Generations. It feels like they actively spent more effort on making him control like dogshit when keeping him unchanged would have been good enough. I'd love to know what exactly happened in development.

I think the gross part of the Arbies thing is trying to get a bunch of people to do unpaid work that pushes their brand/hashtag.

And they had better be making a Mania 2 / game with the Mania engine. But repeating success/what works is not something the Sonic Team seems to be good at.

Equally egregious is the sudden lurch in speed the avatar has that frequently slingshots you into pits, particularly on Imperial Tower. It's difficult to ignore and easily fixed, yet somehow they didn't.

There's a certain logic to why loops in 3D are scripted, and Utopia ironically shows why. One, the classic physics make it extremely easy to slip out of them, which is why the 3D games use splines and guard rails on them. Aside from that, 3D makes them kind of pointless, given in Utopia it's one again faster to go around them or hop over the gap between the start and the end of the loop.

This is from 900 pages ago but: make it so successfully completing a loop takes 3 seconds off the timer. I have never actually played a 3D sonic game unless Blast counts btw.

He's been doing it for over a decade, so I figure if that's the case then he certainly took his time to make that decision. Maybe he just got tired of dealing with Sega's corporate bullshit -- they are notoriously hostile to one another in that company and will actively sabotage one another over petty slights.

That new studio indicates nothing about the developers' intent to make Mania 2. If anything, it'd probably make it easier to manage, seeing as the original Mania was made by a bunch of little micro-studios that all had to be corralled.

Either way, I don't think they should be cranking out Mania games - the more quickly they put them out, the worse they'll get and the less people will want them. One a gen a la NSMB would be fine.

I agree that making more manias would increment the possibility of one of them turning poo poo, and that making mania a one off makes it a lot more special.

But I would REALLY like a game with only brand new stages. I also understand that on a mechanical level, pretty much every stage in mania is basically a new stage because they have gimmicks that the originals didnt to the point they are completely different beasts. But man, press garden 2, studiopolis and mirage saloon made compelling arguments for new stages.

What was the absolute best mania stage?

Personally CPZ2 is the stage I replayed the most. Really fast and the bouncy gel mechanic was cool as poo poo. Puyo boss is a bit of a pacebreaker. Second place would go to either mirage saloon 2, or one of the studiopolises.
