I really liked the split second shield in s3 but no one else did since it never came back :(

The absence of the insta-shield is my only disappointment with Sonic Mania.

Learning how to properly utilise it added a whole new layer of complexity to Sonic 3K.
In Studiopolis Zone, there's one enemy that looks like an orbinaut (the floating orbs with spiky balls). I can already tell that I will drop-dash into every single one of them since that's Sonic's new double jump action now.

Even thinking about a Sonjc Metroidvania makes me PHYSICALLY ILL

I wouldn't rule out the possibility of it working, if it went the route of Order of Ecclesia, instead of Symphony of the Night.

By which I mean: Find upgrades in later levels which unlock alternate routes when you replay earlier stages, instead of backtracking through a single huge interconnected hub.

Edit: vvv Right, the Mystic Melody. I totally forgot that existed.

Hey, I'm happy.

This is the first time I've been looking forward to a Sonic game release since Adventure.

I really like this one.

The world around him may be ruins of a long-dead civilisation, but Sonic is looking into the bright, hopeful sky.

Don't care about the problems of the past, keep making a Good Future, buddy.

Good games, maybe.

Good Sonic games, certainly not.

The Sonic twitter account asks if we would be interested in a Sonic Mania collectors edition ...

Those boss fights look tedious as hell.

I actually bought an Apple TV for no other reason but to play Sonic 1, 2, and CD on my TV with a controller again.

I would like to say it was a bad use of my money, but the games are so good. I regret nothing.

Maybe someday we'll see Sonic 3K get remastered as well ... someday ...

Everybody who thinks the homing attack in 2D is a good idea should just play Sonic 4 and see how they like it.

The drop dash from Mania looks far more sensible (though not great enough that I can accept it as a replacement for S3K's superb insta-shield).

I've I'm reading that correctly, it would start on Green Hill, South Island, then you go back in time a little (e.g. Hill Top) and that ruins the present.
So, when you return, Green Hill becomes Dust Hill, "Ocean Wind Zone" becomes Oil Ocean, and so on.

To fix that poo poo you go back to ancient times ... Chemical Plant, Casino Night, Genocide City.

That pretty much means Sonic's world is some far post-apocalyptic future land (or at least, it was supposed to be, before Sonic Adventure came along to rewrite everything).

Fits in nicely with the OVA scenario, too (the Land of Darkness being the ruins of the lost civilisation).

I really like Sonic Adventure 1, but it is kind of sad to see how the story changed, because this classic Sonic world sounds so much more interesting than Station Square.

Fingers crossed that Mania lore ;) does not contradict this backstory.

All that Sonic Mania made me so nostalgic, I felt like re-living the early days of Sonic on the internet, too.
Which in my case means mailing lists and downloading MIDI files.

Unfortunately, my go-to site from back in the day, EspioKaos, seems to have closed up shop. VGMusic still exists of course, but I don't think they have the complete collection of tracks sequenced by John Weeks, which is what I'm after.

Any chance one of you has a ZIP archive of everything from espiokaos.com lying around on Mediafire or something?
Thanks in advance!

His game had better run at 60fps in every platform. If it comes out and they're like "lmao only 60fps on PS4 pro" I'm gonna be pissed.

Would buy a PS4 Pro in a heart beat for Mania alone.

Where can I get one of those cards?
I'd love try and S-Rank all S1 through 3K :)

I think people were setting themselves up for disappointment by managing to convince themselves that mediocre Sonic games like Generations are actually good.

But even with Forces looking like it's gonna be another garbage-tier game, 2017 will be a great year for Sonic.
We have Mania coming out in five weeks, after all. :)
