Teams are divided into groups who play round robin with each other. The team with the most amount of points moves on to the knockout round, which is seeded based on those very points. (Trinidad & Tobago) Sporting Kansas City (USA) Vancouver Whitecaps FC (Canada) Group D Árabe Unido (Panama) Don Bosco (Haiti) Monterrey (Mexico) Group E Olimpia (Honduras) Pachuca (Mexico) Police United (Belize) Group F Alianza (El Salvador) Antigua (Guatemala) Red Bull New York (USA) Group G Heredianco (Costa Rica) Plaza Amandor (Panama) UANL (Mexico) Group H FC Dallas (USA) Real Estelí (Nicaragua) Suchitepéquez (Guatemala) Facebook Live will stream all the games in English (even the ones without MLS teams!) during the group stage, which is either a step up or a step below FS2, depending on how you view it. Spanish broadcasts will be on the Univision family of networks. Group stage lasts from August to October; knockout stage is in the Spring. Official Website

Before the 2008-09 season, it was an eight-team knockout tournament, and even then one of the MLS teams that won never played a game against a Mexican team. Apart from the '98 Black-and-Red, there have been no good American teams ever.
