I like your style hombre, but this is no laughing matter. Assault on a police officer. Theft of police property. Illegal possession of a firearm. FIVE counts of attempted murder. That comes to... 29 dollars and 40 cents. Cash, cheque, or credit card?

I wonder what he's going to keep the same and what he's going to turn on it's head - that's going to be the most interesting part for veterans. Following his twitter he's basically said he's writing the story he wants to write now, and CW came to HIM, not the other way around, so it could be really interesting.

pretty much all the B5 novels are really bad and there's a reason why JMS does not consider them canon. one was infamously written in a week, if i remember correctly, and a lot of them feel like they were written by people who'd never seen the show and had only been told about it briefly. of the ones that are considered canon: the shadow within is generally considered decent, as is the psi corps trilogy. the technomages trilogy depends on how much you like technomages and weird retcons. the centauri prime trilogy appears to be okay but rarer than the others. the psi corps trilogy is my favorite set of all the b5 novels. i think all of them are pretty hard to find. they were rare when they first came out and i don't think were ever reprinted.

Really I got both the technomage and centauri trilogies. I liked both of them tbh.

Edit: Oh I also got the psi-corps one, I remember really liking it.

All aliens will be played by actual aliens imported to Earth specifically for that purpose. Fans and watchers will immediately complain about the poorly handled alien effects and how fake and cheap they are.

Edit: Penn and Teller will be CGI.

Penn and Teller got the guest spot because they were popular in the 90s. Same with Scott Adams. I don't think we'll see any of them on this version.

We could add Dennis Miller and Bill Maher for that real 90s feel!

Oh wow, so it's something that could reasonably happen.

Actually, just having Reebo & Zooty on in the background, muted, in one episode or another would be a nice little reference. Get P&T for like, half a day, record a few skits, and just sprinkle them into the background of the show. Never let it be the focus, just let it be some texture to "what do people watch in the future" compared to the original's, uh. ISN and Looney Tunes?

I've been trying to think of who the modern version of Penn and Teller is and keep drawing a blank, maybe because their weird niche is mostly gone now, or maybe because anyone else trying that schtick these days is on YouTube somewhere and my cursed algorithm just hasn't caught up yet

It feels way more likely to me that none of those old cameo characters will return even with different actors. If there are any similar guest spots they should be new, written from scratch for a new set of people

Showing a different encounter suit in the show doesn't mean anything without knowing who's in it. Saying it's not Kosh reveals things. I agree though, Alhazred shouldn't be posting that pic.

I watched the pilot last night, and it's still weird how all the aliens stayed on for the show, but none of the humans did except for Sinclair and Garibaldi. Takashima's acting was...very not good, she pauses in weird places in the middle of her sentences and can't quite express emotion well. I'm a little prone to wonder how much of acting issues in Babylon 5 are the result of weird directing, since there's some otherwise talented actors in the show that give...weird performances. Sinclair though has some of his best acting in the pilot, from his passionate running from the exploding Minbari to his haunting recount of the Line, and he even has better chemistry with his pilot girlfriend than he does with Catherine Sakai. Possibly that's a sign of how mental illness impacted his ability to perform.

There's a lot of elements that got changed for the show. I think one of the worst was how the pilot had its guns that it called "PPGs" that were these big ridiculous long flat tubes with two handles that the actors never could figure how to hold instead of dinky pistols. Delenn had her gravity ring and G'kar had his gills, the doctor had a laser in medbay that maybe Franklin would've found handy. The alien sector Sinclair shows off at the beginning looks more like a zoo from the alien puppets being behind glass.

Takashima's bridge felt like a smaller set than Ivanova's (maybe it had less dressing like how medbay looked pretty bare, or maybe it was because there were less extras and more camera angles to show the size of the set), but Takashima's bridge actually seemed more dynamic from how she had two subordinate extras playing a more active role in running the station. The flashing warning lights were pretty bad though. It was a pretty dramatic moment when they had to re-stabilize the station after the explosion, it's weird they never did that again in the show.

The mostly dropped all the different-atmosphere bits later in the show, which I can see as a real practical decision. They didn't really build any plots around the alternate-atmospheres, it was just another obstacle to blocking scenes. It looks neat to have all those fog machines going, but there just doesn't seem like a point to it. It helped for hiding some deficiencies in the praying mantis crime boss puppet, but they didn't really use any other puppets on the show. It ended up as just kind of a superfluous decision, and the station seems better without having big chunks people needed gas masks for. It's more dynamic if anyone could go anywhere without being funneled through airlocks.

Chevy Slyme posted:

It sort of is. Like in between learning about Vorlon biotechnology and the death and replacement of Kosh, it's plausible that Kosh is the only Vorlon left in the galaxy and the rest of Vorlon civilization is just their extremely advanced living technology ticking away. That's not the case, but it was a possibility.

Lyta definitely didn't "stay on", but there would've been plenty room to bring all the other characters back somehow or another in a similar way. My brain actually told me that the president's doctor was the doctor in the pilot, but nope, I had that wrong.
