I find the similarities enjoyable and in general from the little I've seen of Babylon 5 in reruns back when I had a tv, they're not quite that strong except in superficial ways; ripping off would have been resolving the Homefront arc with a season long civil war that tears the federation apart as half the Starfleet leadership decides that fascism is good actually. At most they tend to feel like nods.
