Hey everyone, first time watcher here :D

Besides seeing a few episodes back in 90s I have not seen B5 properly, neither a full season or a story arch. I'm an avid trekkie, a proper SW fan and I am starting my watch.
(only things I remember are Bruce Willis type of guy, a headpiece woman that grown hair and was 'reborn' as human and ferengi-ripoff-funny guy Mollari)
It is also known to me that the show was really on a budget when it started

1x01 Midnight on the Firing Line
-Mollari and nepotism among minbari, possible future plotline about his government forfeiting Ragesh 3?
-Female president of Earth supposed back in 1993? Bold. Good. Like.
-Diplomatics are shown almost exactly as it was in pre-internet era. Believable but naive at parts. Lets hope its for viewers' comfort.
-Humans didn't change much but have ideals and ground they stand on. Probable nods towards Trek's Federation where almost everything was built on self-improving? Feels ENT trek btw, thou it came ten years later than B5.
-Believable space combat, no sound as per then-contemporary theories.
-Mars colony seems separate in politics from Earth. This is an interesting point.

A great start, almost zero introductions, decent dialogue and several plotlines. Characters seem believable. Let's see what's next!

Decided to write afterthoughts, not putting down every thing I seem important. Kills momentum of the episode.

1x02 Soul Hunter
-Interesting tidbits about alien migration to Earth, a wee bit of character development with captain Commander's old friend Franklin
-Why only Commander can catch the ship? Brave commander is brave
-Immortal race of soul hunters. Immortal race. Huh
-Neat worldbuilding about Minbari mythology
-Why did the Soul Hunter chose the poor cheating dealer's soul? I dunno if he felt his departure or took his soul? The Soul Sucking Machine™ by the end of the ep. seems big and difficult to setup, so they indeed can 'steal' a soul out of thin air? Hope this gets addressed or explained further
-Satai Grey Council? Delenn is some high command with hidden motives? Hmmm she seemed nice tho.
-Minbari (as a race) are on decline
-Brave Commander is Brave again
-Flying souls in balls
-'We were right about you' huh

1x03 Born to the Purple
-Women, wine and music!
-I laughed at that G'Kar-Londo scene
-Overall feels like a contemporary 90s spy movie with some good laughs and strong romance
-Centauri worldbuilding and traditions, also neat character development for Londo
-Although it seems in character for Londo to not have a family, this was surprising tbh for an Ambassador to not have one
-Brain scan through ear, ugh thats nasty
-Brave Commander is brave again :D
-Very sweet character development for Garibaldi and Ivanova, her father death seemed very natural (for a serial that just started) and not enforced as a filler
-Brave commander is cunning now!
-Overall a positive, light and nice episode

I like that every episode there is worldbuilding with proper explanations that don't seem out of place, nothing is shoehorned as-is.
Everything seems important and related to the story, no fillers.

Will watch tomorrow-monday, finishing ep5 today, I hope.
Ep4 was a blast not only as some action but as some answers to the questions I had in mind after watching first 3 episodes. This is neat.

ps
for the first time in a long while I'm really sad
Sad that I got spoilered about who Sinclair is and will be for Minbari :tif:

How does it feel to use spoiler tags in almost 30 y/o show thread?
Thank you for that :)

1x04 Infection
-Oh c'mon Garibaldi, you have a promised drink with XO!
-Worldbuilding and tidbits about xenophobia on Earth, how people saw B5 at the beginning.
-They should have tried to smuggle the artifacts as-is, because only specialized med equipment showed that they are organical. Or was it to set up Nelson as a killer for easier introduction as 'bad guys of the week'? I guess latter.
-The concept of organical machinery was not new, but for the first time on my memory it was so gracefully explained
-More introduction/development of Dr. Franklin. He is good. Explicitly good. I dunno how to word it better. He knows what is right and suspects that something is wrong. Though he is tired and he doesn't notice it.
-Nelson acts accordingly to how he was introduced.
-Garibaldi gets what he deserved from the nosy reporter. lmao C'mon man you can do better!
-Wonky SFX don't feel 'cheap', they feel very early 90's
-One-off prosthetics are very good
-Ivanova is badass
-The main fight. Brave commander being brave again. I expected him (and dreaded this) to finish off Ikarran with airlock but instead he talked him out of it. This moment of mercy and understanding is what I hope to see more. If it's like that, I like it!
-Trying to bribe your ex-student with large sums of money, we see the struggle and we can (maybe?) relate here a bit. But Stephen already did what was right - called the guard on his ex prof.
-Garibaldi doing a lecture on bravery in our Brave Commander's actions. This is another thing early shown and early addressed. In-season pacing is cool.

1x05 The Parliament of Dreams
-Nice character development and worldbuilding overall in this episode
-G'Kar gets to trust his new assistant
-Londo being Londo (I guess that's a thing now)
-Decent worldbuilding on part of traditions here
-Ou la la Commander gets his romantic interest back in game! Wonder if she stays for longer? Also more background for our Commander
-What struck me the most was our 'Earth' representation in the end of the episode. I'm very non-religious person but this slow camera move along endless line of Earth representatives of different religions made me feel proud. Everyone is so different yet we all are together. Man that felt good!

This is an extensive show indeed! I binged watched up to e10, still don't have time to write all thoughts down and also feel I have to extend more on that religious theme in ep 5 because that was the most beautiful representation of human traditions and beliefs without it being about a religion. The continuity rocks (Garibaldi reading a newspaper with headline being about the guy caught back in prev episode).
I will write all down for sure, just want to enjoy it for now, so I'm not disappearing yet :P

I’m a new watcher, few episodes into season 2. I know the reason they swapped out Sinclair, but... I hate Sheridan so far. His two emotions are “punchable smile” and “GETTING REALLY MAD AND SHOUTING FOR NO REASON!!” He’s just a horrible generic military man who is bizarrely combative when talking to people. Does this guy become less of a dick later on, or am I supposed to like him? I really liked Sinclair, he was chill and calm and didn’t keep spouting inspirational quotes.

Also for all the playing-up they do about how humans and Minbari still hate each other after the war, both Sinclair and Sheridan always look like they’re seconds away from making out with Delenn. I suspect Minbari mind control :tinfoil:

Hahah totally 100% agree here man.
Which brings me to a thing. I've devoured up to s3 and cannot stop watching to write stuff down in a post.

This...this hits harder than I thought. Way too close. More than just a very good show coming to an end.
Did we do good in our lives, did we manage to achieve something? Was it all worth it?
Will this all ever matter to someone other than just yourself?
I'm having an existential crisis now.

They did good on closing it all down. All arcs (major ones) finished, but its just a beginning of another journey. Although they might have chosen to save B5, buy it, also what happened to Epsilon 3 and many other questions...Like if G'Kar & Londo really happened that one day and why, what happened to G'Kar himself, Lyta? Oh...

Now I have to summarize it all and write down in form of short episode reviews.

Alright weird question that’s been bothering me, why are so many characters seen specifically ordering or drinking water at the bar? Garibaldi makes sense, but also Talia specifically asks for it and the doctor guy only has a glass of water in at least one scene. Was there some kind of restriction on what could be shown on TV? Is everyone an alcoholic? (Or am I just overthinking this)

Water is not very abundant on the station, most of it is recycled so...Drinking water is a status symbol of sorts too.

gently caress these hoarders. The dedication is what's lacking. There are fully complex and complete B5 models of everything from shuttle to the stations in different game's mods as early as Freelancer, so it honestly just a matter of picking a game with a strong scripting engine, digging out the mods and filming the scenes.

Yup that's what I'm talking about. If some guy has all of the files needed for a homemade remaster and can prove it, fans could fund his new pc for the job. But if all the files are in hands of some dick who will hold onto them until they eventually die from mountain dew overdose and files get lost in the history then the only way is to custom-make the sequences anew, be it unity or a game with mods. Boils down to dedication to B5 and free time. No doubt it will be a great work for a low outcome but that's what fans are for :v:

I read the Centauri prime books while doing my rewatch of B5, and man, Londo really got screwed hard. I just feel so sorry for the guy. Even though it was he consequences of his own actions biting him in the rear end, you can't help root for him, despite it all. It's made worse because you'd think Sheridan would have been able to piece together the honking big clues he got during his jaunt to the future and seeing the allies of the shadows flee Zha'Ha'dum. It's really a testament to how amazing a character Londo is that despite him getting a full karmic paypack you still end up rooting for him.

[spoiler] Garibaldi totally stole the show (book?) though, despite only being in it for what, 10 pages? That oneliner is a killer

Also up to almost midway s4 on my rewatch, and man, that bit with Marcus singing Modern major general until Franklin screams will never not be funny. Same for Sheridans poo poo eating grin after cucking incel lennier. Woohoo indeed.

Londo: thing is...He HAD to do all this. He found out the price and consequences but could not stop. He knew he was hosed all the way down the line. Oh god his whole arc is so nasty. Also the 'gift' to David Sheridan. Imagine screaming silently inside your body while your body is being controlled by a Keeper not being able to do anything? Londo is not about hubris. Londo is about where traditions, duty and honor can lead you in some bad combinations of the circumstances. He is the one who would love to just sit in his casino drinking and gambling. He did not want this. He did not want this at all...

I love Londo. He is great.

The issue with that being how so much is foreshadowing. Also, if we start happily talking about things that aren't relevant, we will draw attention to the things we are pointedly not talking about.

If we do post anything in there, it has to be very limited and solely related to production of the episode - nothing that appears on screen. The bit about how Billy Mumy wanted to film a scene with June Lockhart in The Quality of Mercy would be fine, I guess, but I wouldn't even mention the hidden messages on the Arrivals boards because it will make people look for them and distract from watching the show. Treat them like the Sentinelese - if you go in and try to interfere, you get shot dead on the beach.

So basically 'if you feel an urge to comment, just comment only about what pebbles saw and mentioned and not a letter more. No explanations or explications, even vague ones'.
