I was ambivalent about Smokey at first but it's cool that their personality gimmick is puns and cripplingly low self-esteem. The uncomfortable look on Sardonyx's face as she worked it out was also pretty great.

I kind of like that the show starts out simple and dumb and occasionally obnoxious, because so does Steven, and that at least seems to be by design. Makes for a bigger contrast with later seasons. Harder to sell to someone if they don't know that it's going to get better, admittedly.

Some parts were hit or miss, but I love the giant ruined planet looming ominously over the jungle moon, which I missed the episode title for and did not realize was a moon until the colony dream.
