I never got around to buying Mafia 2, but it might be the last time I played the poo poo out of a demo until Ground Zeroes. The melee combat was leagues better than even GTAV. I spent so much time beating the poo poo out of elderly people. So my decision to buy Mafia 3 hinges on the melee combat being good and the ability to beat up harmless old people.

Like that Vice article Dapper_Swindler posted mentions how the cops swoop in if they get a call from a rich white neighborhood but they can just outright ignore anyone reporting you in the slums. Also the devs said if you just hang around the rich white neighborhoods for too long people will call the cops on you. this and other stuff apparently.

So the new DLC was announced. Which reminds me of the last shenanigans the publisher pulled and yanked Joe's Adventures right out of the middle of the game when it was already completed, causing a complete break in the story line that pissed off Daniel Vavra so much, he quit game development for a while and drat near didn't come back to the industry. Along with the open ended missions and leader boards being cut for DLC as well.... which honestly was, at the time, a new low for gaming. I loved Mafia 1, still liked Mafia 2 but definitely didn't agree with their DLC decisions. Looks like they are doing it again - so I wonder how much they will fracture the story again in place of profits. Utnayan fucked around with this message at 16:24 on Sep 6, 2016 |

While I'm also weary of that (fukkin' 2K! ) it sounds like this may be legitimate post-game content the way the announcement sounds. Which of loving course it does. But I'm real hopeful that it's finally better. But that said, don't ever loving buy the pre-order with the season pass included. I have yet to see any one of those have a discount applied so there's no point in ever buying it before the DLC is actually out and you know if you want it.

Mafia II could have been the best in the series had it just had all it's parts included in the shipment as planned instead of what basically amounted to charging 10 bucks 2 weeks after launch to get back what was in the game to begin with and slashing Joe's Adventures. It would have been one thing had it been worked on post release. It was slashed and was supposed to originally be in the game when Vito went to jail. Which is also why everyone saw that part of the game being the most absrupt cuts ever.

I had problems with Django Unchained for similar reasons. Yeah, I'm not sure how much should be explicitly shown through gameplay. Enemies shouting racial slurs at the player during gun play, a voodoo doll for distracting enemies, that doesn't sound like it's given a lot of weight. On the other hand, I agree with the conclusion of that Vice article and the lead writer. It would be worse to ignore it completely. I think it could be well done if presented trough the story itself and a few scripted scenes. Also like the more subtle stuff like police taking longer to respond to certain areas. Stuff like this (from one of the DLC descriptions) though: quote:Fast cars, dramatic chases, and stunt driving take center stage as Lincoln joins forces with his former flame, Roxy Laveau, to take down a corrupt Sheriff terrorizing Civil Rights activists on the outskirts of New Bordeaux. Feels like it cheapens the actual history of it. Anyway, I like the free DLC. Nothing too big but car customization and races could be cool. Haven't seen this one before either: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8kqlTOFETuI Looks like there will be CHOICES AND CONSEQUENCES WHICH WILL INFLUENCE THE WORLD AROUND YOU.

I honestly just hope it's a period piece and they present it as ugly as it was and hey you just happen to be here. Don't call attention to it or make a big deal, just make it. I understand it's an EXTREMELY difficult subject and nearly impossible to handle in a tactful way that pleases everyone but so many games have recently had fake racism in them that have barely broached the subject and it feels like why even bother. They clearly have it in Mafia III so here's hoping they're not another game that just kind of brings it up, damns it, and then just cheerily and blissfully moves on.

Between shutting down human trafficking and fighting against corrupt cops, I'm getting a very family-friendly-mafia vibe from this game. Not sure how I feel about that. Whatever. I thought Mafia 2 was great, if super short, and I'll play this one too.

I'm secretly hoping this is sort of Forrest Gump-y and the DLC links Lincoln with every major US historic event in the 60's and 70's. Can't wait for the Watergate stealth level.

Donovan(the cia spook) is there being "interrogated" about his role in all of it. and the pastor is shown as an old man in the documentry. so clearly neither die. idk i have read pretty much every article out on this game. its kinda sad.

I could tell that was the framing mechanic from one of the trailers I watched today. Old man in a chair with nothing but blackness behind him talking about the past tense? It makes me nostalgic for when the History Channel wasn't arguably the worst network on television.

Watching the 20 minute gameplay video makes me REALLY hope they bring back PhysX particles and destruction. Mafia II was one of the very few games it worked extremely well in. It's so loving awesome to look around after a firefight and see just how much chaos and destruction is all over the floor.

I could be wrong but this happens everywhere with any character. The AI in GTA5 is aggressive as gently caress for no reason. I wasn't being hyperbolic when I say that if you stand even remotely close to any person they just start attacking you. You don't even have to be looking in their direction. It's probably my least favorite part about GTA5, since the GTA4 was definitely not like that.

It's probably my least favorite part about GTA5, since the GTA4 was definitely not like that. That doesn't sound like my experience at all. If you bump directly into them, sure, or if you're standing like an inch or less away from them. They'll also freak out if you start obviously following them. Nothing ever stood out as being unrealistic, in my opinion As for the thing with Franklin standing around in rich neighborhoods, when I heard the story it was Franklin standing around in the redneck countryside. But I think that's just people projecting or straight-up fabricating poo poo.

I've heard Franklin will have the cops called on him and is less likely to get away with small dings on a cop car but it's such a loving systemic game there's no way I can be sure of it myself. Also, the AI is overly loving aggressive, you're not wrong. If you stand near ANY character they just flip out and walk away and some will even fight you. You don't have to bump them or even get SUPER close. It's loving horrible.

I say that because Django handled race pretty badly in choosing to ignore a bunch of other poo poo about slavery to focus on one dude to the extent that every other black person in that movie outside of 3 of them are just background noise. It's even worse considering that Tarantino thought that his movie was going to one up Roots. While I don't think they should ignore it, I get the feeling that it won't be handled the way that it should, especially if your game is another shooty mccover shooter.
