some years ago I started having knee pain during runs and the doc said that there is nothing to be done and I should run less. instead I started squatting and shortly after the pain went away forever.

everyone who doesn't believe in the power of squat is lying to themselves. your matchstick legs are a self-delusion.

My fat 265lb rear end used to sprint up and down a flight of 18 stairs that were 1/4 length and steeper than normal stairs 20+ times per day on my tip-toes to get water, to use the bathroom, and to get more snacks.

Never had knee issues. Got big ol calves. Was always good at going up and down stairs because it's the one thing I physically did.

I've since lost weight and hit the gym to lift the weights. I also wasn't always fat.

squats are fine if you have proper form it's not that complicated

Lmao at the idea that injury can be avoided with "the right form." There is no "right form" of totally unnatural lifts that the body is not meant to do involving the absurdly complex and wear-probe knee joints never mind the loving spinal column. Literally every decent lifter is a walking list of health problems because of these two dumb exercises in particular, aka the Reddit goon exercises.

"absurdly complex"

we're not talking about professional lifters you retards we're talking just normal exercise. don't slam 2-3 plates onto your squat bar and you'll be fine.

Leg press is probably much worse for your knees if you have an injury, since at least with squats there are a bunch of other muscles limiting how heavy you can go and maintain form. With leg press it's just your legs, so people are much more likely to go too heavy too fast.

Quibbling over "2 to 3 plates" is silly because that can mean anything from like 1lb to over 600lb.

Moridin920

"a plate" usually refers to the 45 lb plates

"3 plates" is 3 plates on each side, plus the bar which is also typically about 45lb for a total of 315lbs. or 225lb if you're doing 2 plates.

Which yeah if you're lifting frequently that's not that much but if you're wondering about form and busting your knees don't do that much weight.

When people are talking about lifting some particular amount of weight I've only ever heard them give it in kg or lb except for that weird Russian unit kettle bell uses. If you like to give it in multiples of 45lb then go for it, you shouldn't consider it an offense to your honor.

A guy walking in from the street isn't going to hurt themselves on 315 because they won't be able to unrack is in the first place and 225 takes like a month or two to get to with the right routine. Even trying it first day wouldn't hurt much because that's below body weight for the average goon.
