You can write the equations without a poo poo ton of brackets and loving slashes, they look like what they are:

You wanna do a definite integral?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YeVR_5ogc2I&t=84s

How about you wanna do a little stat bullshit huh?

Plus this drat thing gotta ~~spreadsheet~~ built in.

If you need an exam calc the only worries about the fx-991ex are that some of its functions are too strong. Namely if you are in a calculus class it can do definite integrals and derivatives and if you are in an introductory stats class it can do all of that stuff almost automatically. For the former case get an fx-82ex. You'll have to order it from ebay as it is not sold in the US but it is still very cheap. It does not do integrals or derivatives and while it has normal, statistics and table submodes it does not have complex number mode, base n mode, matrices, vectors, distribution (except for basic stuff in stats), spreadsheets, the equation solver, the inequality solver or the ratio mode. These are all on the 991ex.

Also the 82ex is battery only instead of solar/batt but it uses a AAA that lasts for around two years with daily use. I think the 85ex is the 82 with a solar panel as well.

quote:

Need a graphing calculator?

A) You almost certainly don't. The graphing feature will not be allowed on tests. You will only use it for ~1/2000 of your problems during the year. This means for a few homework questions. For those questions in TYOOL 2016 you should use a much better application like Wolfram Alpha that uses natural human language and runs for free in any browser (just google it).

B) Still "need" it? Get the "Graph 89 Free" emulation app and download the TI-89 rom from TI's site itself (have to set up an account). The TI-89 is a very inconvenient but massively powerful calculator that can do integrals for you symbolically, sums, and everything that entails (so like it would get an A+ in any class up through college Calc 2 on its own) and then some. You can also pay five bucks for the "Graph 89" emulator that additionally allows you to emulate the TI84 (TIs only graphing model that is even remotely user friendly) and everything else they make other than the highest end NSPIRE type ones.

C) Want a hardware one no matter what? Please reread A and B. Still want one? Don't get a loving TI. The Casio fx-9860GII S is good. The Casio PRIZM is another step up. Casio does not have a graphing calculator in its CLASSWIZ line which the fx991ex and fx82ex are a part of, but the two I listed function similarly with a natural display, over/under fraction button, etc. Again I advise heavily against ever buying a physical graphing calculator but if I had to I would either get one of those or wait for the inevitable CLASSWIZ grapher.

Thread Rules

1) No Casio fx-991EX negativity, this is a cheering thread for how great the Casio fx-911EX is. If you want to be negative please only talk about TI bullshit.

2) No referral codes

3) Forum rules do not apply in this thread so you can post Krusty and homegrown

no poo poo the first time i realised you could calculate fractions on this thing without some hosed up slash symbol or - worse - having to divide them up first to feed them into the calculation was the exact second all the other calculators went in the bin

They're fine but they wrangled some exclusivity agreements with a lot of school districts a few decades ago and therefore get away with charging $100+ for something that should cost about what the OP calculator does.

The fx-115 ES is a great calculator no doubt but the EX has a much better screen, more functions, spreadsheets, plus it can generate QR codes so you can get help for how to use functions and images of your function and stuff like that easily once entered into the calculator

The only acceptable TI calculator is the TI-30XS Multiview and it's like a D+ compared to the A++++ of the calculator in the OP.

All of their graphing calculators might as well function off of punch cards for how usable they are.

I have this too but what I want is a Casio fx-991EX emulator.

I got the paid version of that app so I could also put a TI-84 rom on it just so I didn't have to mess with the command line poo poo of the 89 when I wanted to do pleb math on my phone.

Some of the "newer" ones have ridiculously fast z80s. Like 48Mhz, which doesn't sound like much but that's fast for a z80. I think they may have also bumped up the IPC as well.
