KNEEL BEFORE THE WICKED KING!
DSJ PV

Alright, so first off: very, VERY recently Atlus decided to announce a 3DS remake of this game called Strange D3EP Journey (read: Deep Strange Journey). It contains a new character named Alex who has her own new ending, she wants to do a murder on the main character for the crime of Being In The Schwarzwelt and is totally definitely not going to be Marie, again, honest.

End

So, let's go back to our normal, regularly scheduled programming...

Our third and final run begins with the hero of the heart, the coolest kid in town and Professor Layton's third assistant in the making, I am sure.

Also a former classmate of Richard Appel, one of the writers of the Simpsons.

Both Langdon and Lance are shown as names in the US manual. Atlus kind of has a fondness for that, you may notice. In many English previews for things like Etrian Odyssey, characters are often named after characters from popular webcomics for example.

So, Langdon's Demonica is going to be determined by the last simple pattern. Gonna select the bottom option every ti--

Oh. Uhh, that's pretty bad!

St: 19%
Ma: 20%
Vi: 18%
Ag: 24%
Lu: 19%

Is the Speed Demonica's growth, so we're gonna reload and try ahain.

This time, we select answers 3-1-3-2-1 in that order and that gives us...

Technical is vague but this is the Magic Demonica.

St: 19%
Ma: 24%
Vi: 19%
Ag: 20%
Lu: 18%

Vitality is just plain bad so I won't humor that one at all. It exists, it's poo poo, moving on.

We have a bunch of Special Passwords to try out as soon as we can (which is immediately).

These give very specific, very special "demons". They're replica Demonicas that are sentient! They even come with Gun skills that are normally Hitonari exclusive, oddly enough.

Replace the alignment in the password with a different one (Neutral or Chaos as appropriate) gives a different Fake.

They each have Watchful for passive EXP gain, and they each have a single target stat debuff.

Airstrike, by the way, makes Demonica-N the worst base demon for offense. It's unique to this guy in every way, as all these Gun skills are, but it's just Needle Assault (MT gun, base power of 75) but with reduced accuracy AND it costs more than twice as much. gently caress Airstrike.

Demonica-C is at least double fancy for having an instant death attack and being the Black Samurai a member of Jack's Squad. Sure, why not.

Skipping way, way ahead to level 20+, we can use three more now. Replace the alignment with Bugaboo and we can see Jimenez's buddy!

Bugaboo is, uh, really boring. I get the impression that Jimenez didn't keep him around for his combat prowess. :v:

There are also slightly different Bugaboos with a different first vowel. They're also really kind of boring.

None of them are even recolours or anything! The most interesting thing about them is that the three Boos all give Preparedness on their Source which makes them the earliest way to get it at all, AND the earliest fixed Source with it with Sleipnir as the next one.

Speaking of Sleipnir, we're gonna skip aaaaaall the way ahead to Grus. Zelenin just did the mind control song on Ryan and co. and Grendel wants us to finish the job.

Chaos Theme

We gotta pick a side between murdering Ryan and letting Zelenin sing.

Or we can just say gently caress that and fight Grendel. Let's take this third option that the game never actually tells you about but clunkily hints at, like twice.

Understood. This choice may well result in successful completion of the mission.
Your decision is approved.
Aha... then it's a fight you want!

You are the same as the others... Still human. The cursed species!
You will be the first ot be torn to shreds in our march of revenge!

An Honor Befitting That Name

Sorry, Grendel, but I'm not playing even remotely fairly with you. Out of the three demons I'm using to speed through filler, Seraph is the worst one! And he has Big Bang!

Grendel is a Grendel but with more HP. That's basically it for him.

Shiva's (Level 91) around for two-fold reasons. He starts with both Victory Cry AND the one skill that competes with Riot Gun for top-billing (and ultimately loses because it's Almighty) AND his Source gives it guaranteed. I want that source.

Vishnu (Level 86) innately reflects Phys and Gun. And starts with Megidolaon. And Riot Gun. I don't think I need to say anything else here.

Neither would see actual serious use in a normal playthrough, really. Realistically, anything above level 75... call it 80 at a VERY HIGH push might as well be NG+ exclusive for all the difference it doesn't make.

Chaos Theme

> The demon disappeared.

> Without the demon's power, the door is no longer sealed...

Now we can do the dungeon crawl-y bit of Grus, go beat up Maya, have lots of long talks about things, go to Horologium, head on down to B9F, meet Gore outside and take him back to the Red Sprite for one last time.

Silence

With all you've seen and learned about the Schwarzwelt...
I have to know whether you're up to the job of risking your life to save mankind.

The End

Since we're Neutral, Gore doesn't immediately get pissy and attack us. He asks us questions only when we can get the Neutral path. Answering wrong gives us Law or Chaos again.

That's pretty dumb!

As you may know, it is possible here to become like a demon by imbibing demonic power.
Would you host a demon in yourself?
I wouldn't.
...Then let me ask you this, Alger.

Now you have been given a chance to reclaim that peace by singing the song of the god of light.
Will you sing God's eternal praise?
I won't.
I see. Then I'll ask one final question of you.

On the one side, we have the demons of chaos, bursting with power.
On the other, a god trying to impose his law and order.
Both want nothing more than to get their hands on the power hidden within the Schwarzwelt...
So that they may lay claim to the Earth.

Think hard on which future you want for mankind.
When you've made your choice, tell me who you'd entrust with the fate of all humanity.
Think very carefully, Crewman Alger, before answering...
Who would you entrust the future to?
The human race.

...Ha! That's a good one.

Great hardships await you on the path you've chosen to follow.
But I want you to remember the way you feel now... I want you to remember that determination.

Morale

And in order to do that, we'll need a special tool...

...the gently caress?

Arthur, this is the best way for the sake of humanity.
Do it. You'll need to, for the next step.

Now it's time I said goodbye, Alger.

I've reached the limit that a corpse can sustain.
That's why I'm leaving everything up to Arthur... and to you.
Take this, Alger. To your body and soul... my power...

This doesn't make us any stronger or give us any unique skills or anything.

This is all it does. Mem Aleph won't be an Unknown later. Boring.

You must defeat her... Everything depends on it...
Now... farewell. I must... disappear... no... return...

Silence

The Commander... he vanished...

Sorrow

He came all the way here... to tell us his plan to save mankind...
His will was so strong, it overcame death itself...
We'll upload that will, Commander. Just you watch.

Now commencing dissemination of this data to all hands. Stand by to receive new orders.

Malevolence and Benevolence

This new and final plan has been constructed based on the knowledge provided by Commander Gore.
Commander Gore's last hope...

A high-energy detonation within the Schwarzwelt should remove it from the face of the Earth.

The Joint Project's assault didn't do anything, and they had a lot more megatonnage than we will!
Yeah, what is this "high-energy detonation" you're talking about? We don't have anything like that!
Destruction of the Schwarzwelt may seem impossible based on current observations.

A "high-energy solution"...? What are you getting at?
The following theory was developed primarily on the information from Commander Gore.
While wandering the Schwarzwelt, Commander Gore discovered the existence of high-energy matter.

These Cosmic Eggs have enough energy to create and/or swallow an entire space-time continuum.

Plan Omega is to take this energy for our own puroses and use it to destroy the Schwarzwelt.
The demons want it to create a world, and we need it to destroy one, eh...?
I'm starting to think this might actually work.

It works on the same principle as a detonator in a nuclear warhead.
As yet, we have not found an energy source on the scale we need.

He came back with everything already prepared...
So, where is this detonation energy?

No, really, what the gently caress? What kind of realistically predictable emergency would necessitate having a nuclear warhead to use?

This would honestly be way more believable if it was on the Lightning and not the Gigantic.

We will use that warhead as our detonator.
What...!? We went charging into the Schwarzwelt with a nuke on board...!?
This project was scarier than I knew...
Ironic, huh? The nuke we brought in as a scorched-earth solution ends up our last hope at survival.

His findings indicate that there are a total of four Cosmic Eggs in the Schwarzwelt.

You are tasked with obtaining the following: the Gigantic's nuclear warhead and the four Cosmic Eggs.
I am issuing a new official mission, designated "Bomb Materials Retrieval."
As far as processing the Cosmic Eggs and nuclear warhead...
We will use the lab's matter synthesize to create the Schwarzwelt bomb.
...It won't be easy. We'll have to search the whole Schwarzwelt to find all this stuff.
But as long as it gives us even a glimmer of hope, count me in.

At present, you have two main objectives.
The first is Plan Omega.
The second is to obtain the Exotic Matter in Mem Aleph's possession.
I leave it to your judgement which mission to carry out first.
Do not forget that we must also analyze the forma Commander Gore left us.
Go to the lab to have the forma analyzed.
I look forward to the successful completion of your mission.

Prayer

Like last time we didn't side with Mem Aleph, the elevator is broken so we don't get to pick & choose our order of events. Ah well, let's see what the crew thinks anyway.

But I'm on the Ops team, and it's my duty to carry out his will now that he's gone.
Plan Omega... Let's do this. Whatever it takes...
By the way... about those Cosmic Eggs. We picked up some strange readings in a few sectors.
The four sectors we got readings from were Antlia, Bootes, Carina, and Delphinus.
But we can't pinpoint their origins, so you won't find them on yur automap.
If you want to find them, you'll have to make full use of your Demonica's functions.

We'll most likely see some heavy opposition from the angels and demons, but we've got a chance...
This is probably going to be our last mission together as the Schwarzwelt investigative team.
Let's make it a good one.

Instead of going back to Earth in this little stasis capsule...
Better that he disappear without a trace, leaving his name and deeds to live forever in history.
That's... the kind of man he was...

It's just as Commander Gore said. My father is sick.
The doctors can't figure out what's wrong, so we can't treat him... I'd half given up.
But after hearing what Commander Gore said, I decided to believe...
I believe that two years from now, they'll find that cure, and I'll see my father healthy again.
It can't end here... I won't give up.
Let's defeat Mem Aleph and destroy the Schwarzwelt.
Let's all go home together!

Well, hell, we can't go and fail now, can we?
Now go out and get some forma! We'll have ourselves a grand ol' fight with angels AND demons!

To be able to prepare something so drastic... The Commander really was a special man.
We must act on the wisdom he left with us.
I think it's our obligation as humans.

We've almost reached our main objective...
Like I told you before, we can do anything!
And I'll be supporting you to the very end.
Good luck!

Alright, so now we're gonna get the Eggs done again. There's nothing of note up until the actual chambers so we'll just skip right to Antlia's Egg room.

Chaos Theme

Say, uh, Wu Kong... never mind.

I'm not gonna let you stand in the way of our demon world! Die!

Sorry, Wu Kong you're not going to get a chance to do anything. Tragic, isn't it?

Next we'll be skipping Bootes for now. That's where the Gigantic is, so that gives us the Nuclear Warhead as well as the Egg. So, Carina!

Notably, aside from Wu Kong randomly misgendering Jimenez, none of the dialogue here is different from the Law route.

So we hit Zhu Yin with the beginning of the universe and he crumples.

This also lets us know something I'm sure you were definitely curious about. The Egg numbers are based on the sector, not collection order.

Delphinus gives us the same dialogue as the Chaos route here.

Which means that Cherub also gets fought, and promptly crumples.

This just leaves Yatagarasu at the Gigantic in Bootes.

Silence

> There is no sign of its crew and it doesn't seem to be running.

No reason to leave, so I don't get why this is even a choice.

Law Theme

...Can't say I was expecting to see Zelenin here. Huh. That's different.

The resulting energy of which would destroy the Schwarzwelt...
But the Cosmic Eggs have a greater purpose. They must be used to forge the world our Lord desires.
I cannot forgive a man who stands in the way of His plan.

It is a pity you did not realize the way to salvation, Alger.

No, no, it's cool Seraph has that spell.

You still believe in the majesty of humans, don't you?
And that your actions are noble and good...
But in the end, the truth will out.

No work of human hands can be said to be whole.

I will harness the life consumed by the judgement to weave a new melody...
Your life in the Schwarzwelt, this land covered by the shadow of death...
It will be made eternal as a verse in my hymn.
As a warning against pride, to those who would be tempted by the path of destruction...

:siren: Judge Zelenin :siren:

:siren: Holy Miracle :siren:

So, uh, Zelenin... She's pretty similar here to at the end of the Chaos route.

She COULD do this then as well, but adamantly refused to do so for some reason.

It's just Luster Candy but with an added Diarama for minor inconvenience.

Her moveset is completely identical to before, too, save for no inclusion of Requiem.

...But she finally managed to Charm someone with Sinner's Song. Good job, Zelenin!

Anyway, she's a simple fight but playing like it's fresh she takes a bit of a while. Not Gore levels of lengthy, but she can get up there.

She has 7700 HP, reflects Elec, resists Gun and is weak to Wind.

End

Sorrow

This form... and my actions... these, I do not regret...

O Lord... forgive... your servant...
......

Well, getting that right now sure is different.

And it's Mastema for good measure. We got two bosses in a row again? Let's go!

...Do not look at us that way. We will not fight you.
Our duty is to carry out the Lord's will.
Unlike humans, we will live for eternity.

I advise you do what you can with your time left on this earth...!

Malevolence and Benevolence

I have confirmed your collection of all the bomb's materials. Your mission is thus complete.
We have achieved useful results in our investigation of Horologium.
Please return to the ship.

The crew's efforts on Horologium have produced results.
The Maintenance crew's tireless work has succeeded in repairing the elevator on the first floor.

Alger, we followed your lead and put our lives on the line for this job.
Of course, we couldn't have done it without Arthur's support and the strike team's escort, either.
We're making it through by helping each other... I tell you, I've never worked with a better team.

Allow me to review...
To destroy the Schwarzwelt and escape, we require teh final Exotic Matter Mem Aleph possesses.

Use the repaired elevator on 1F of Horologium and proceed to Mem Aleph's position.
Do not engage. We will determine our chances of victory after reconnaissance.

I already know our chances of victory: 100%!

But before that, though, we need to go back to Grus. Metatron(-facsimile) did have a job for us to do after all...

I guess if we're trying to find logic behind it, maybe the nuke came first ("this might be required to break the Schwartzwelt") and then someone came along "guys what if someone steals the nuke and we can't seize it back cuz they might blow it up, I know, here's a brainwash gun that will help us retrieve it".

Well, apparently they already tried to nuke the Schwartzwelt from the outside, with you in it, and it didn't work.

It's not unfeasible that they were also considering the option of nuking the Schwartzwelt from the inside. With you in it.

Now that we've gotten all the eggs again, and beaten Zelenin, we'll check in with the Red Sprite crew for one last time.

But... I can't forget that we used to work together, carrying out missions and such.
When I think about it like that... It's too bad things had to turn out this way.

I thought we could get along when we saved her at Bootes, but...
I guess she never was willing to put aside humanity's darker nature.
It must be tough, being so obsessed with purity...

Just promise me this... We've come too far for me to bring you home in a stasis capsule.
I don't want to transport any more cargo from the Red Sprite to the morgue when we get back.
Just promise me... you'll make it back here alive.

Maebe still talks about her dad like before, so we'll skip over that.

Well, Langdon? Can ya promise me that?
I promise.
Great! Just what I was hopin' to hear.
Don't worry, Langdon. I know ya can do it.

So if you save the world with them, you'll be a hero, of course, but so will we... in a way.
I'm a very lucky scientist. Well, good luck out there.

Right so, back to Horologium we go...

Chaos Theme

Well, I guess something "new" here makes sense? Sure, why not.

Hmm... You've got something very interesting there... for a human.
Those Cosmic Eggs of yours... I think I, Skadi, will take them.
Those Cosmic Eggs are too much for a human like you to handle.
If we leave the Earth to humans, it'll all be ruined.
Although... that Jimenez guy... Maybe he could handle everything...
Alright, my mind's made up.
I'll kill you here and see to it Jimenez gets the Eggs...!

Skadi, uh, sure is Skadi? She drains Ice, casts Mabufudyne, is weak to Fire and has like 1200HP. She'll Charge sometimes to do extra damage with her basic attack. Boring.

Silence

It seems the demons have learned of your plan and have begun their counterattack.
Continue the mission with caution.
I will also need you to assess the elevator's condition.

We already know the elevator is broked and ain't never gettin' fixed.

Unfortunately, it will be difficult to repair the elevator.
I advise searching for another route to Mem Aleph.
The forma you have just obtained may prove useful in this regard.
Return to the Red Sprite and present it to the lab.

Nothing else is gonna happen until we get to B5F as before, so we'll skip the boring dungeon crawl until we're there.

There's no need to hold back. C'mon over.

> You can hear a voice coming from up ahead...

Chaos Theme

Though you didn't make it here on your own steam, did you? It was really that Demonica...
Y'know, come to think of it, it was me who taught you how to use the Demonica, huh?

Man... I never thought I'd have to beat you.
I beat tons of demons, and now I'm fighting humans...
But eh... I'm not human anymore. No point in thinking like that...

It ain't gonna stop my claws.
Now c'mon, Langdon. Let's finish this.
I'll stomp you and carry out my real duty...
The duty to save those poor schmucks who had the bad luck to be born human!

:siren: Awake Jimenez :siren:

:siren: The Tyrannical Hero :siren:

So, Jimenez in this form is mostly the same as before but with a bit of a twist in that he IS a barrier change boss!

But not quite in the sense that normally means. He starts off weak to Ice, but that shifts to Elec, Wind and sometimes even Gun.

Beyond a rotating weakness, and that he resists Gun when he's not weak to it, he has no actual change to his resistances.

His attacks are also all completely identical to the Soil version on the Law route...

Though he deals less damage, and it sure feels like he uses Dark Matter more here.

He has 9000HP here, and always drains Fire. He doesn't decide to drain anything extra when low on HP this time either.

This is not a place where sons of man should be...

Vehement Rage

So, Demiurge is the ultimate example for why Barrier Change Bosses are a bad idea.

He has 20,000 HP and he reflects everything. Everything. Except one element which he sometimes resists and sometimes is weak to.

He switches what that is every time he either does an action or gets hit or something, it's really unclear. Point is, it switches CONSTANTLY and that means Gibo Eyes is a lying liar in this fight. See, it can tell you something will work because it will.

But he's level 99 so he outspeeds you almost guaranteed. Then it doesn't work any more. And the thing you used gets reflected and whoops.

So I just said gently caress it and hit him with the power of All The Cosmos approx. 60 times in a row! :v:

He also has a Ton of Skills but none of them are new or unique to him. Well, one KIND OF is but we can use it so I don't count it:

Jihad is a special spell that competes with Riot Gun for the best skill in the game. It costs 80MP, is multitarget, has a base power of 500 and also inflicts Debilitate. It ultimately loses to Riot Gun because of its cost, its Almighty so it can't hit weaknesses and its only available from two demons. Shiva and, uh, the Demiurge.

And he does/can use it here as well, but it's pretty rare and he'd rather buff himself than debuff you for some reason.

He can also use things like Maya's Gates or Mother's Kiss or Disaster Cycle. And since you're probably going to be sensible and use the Dragon Ring, sometimes this happens!

But if you're being sensible, you're going to at some point see Gibo Eyes tell you literally nothing is going to work so you just throw Almighty attacks at him. A lot. He has 20,000HP.

I said that already but I'm going to say it again: he has 20,000 HP.

I fought him twice, he never came close to ever winning either time; this video was the shorter and more interesting of the two. The other one was about 13 minutes long and I did the second easiest way to shutdown almost every boss. Trap him in a loop of casting Dekaja and Dekuda.

It was as exciting as it sounds.

It will make this demon unstable... Then I can seal him away.

Turn your Demonica's search function off...!

I mean, sure, we could do that. Or we could, uh, not. And get a bit of a bonus reward out of this.

I have regained the power of a creator.
Langdon... Thou fought well.
Thine actions helped me to reclaim my power.
'Twill not be long before I again assume my true form, full of light.

It's a Chakra Drop with infinite uses. Nice, but not as broken as folks on GameFAQs insist it is (surprise, surprise) because this is the final optional boss and the only thing left after this is Mem Aleph...

Langdon... Thou hast the capacity to be a saint.

I shall protect thee until thou hast smote thy foe.
Go, and drive those wicked heretics back below the ground.
Take me with thee.

Only get this option if you're Law aligned. That's why I pestered a Goblin a lot while you weren't looking, yes.

And we're absolutely taking him with us. This is special!

The contract hath been sealed.
Now let us go. For a new creation...

> You can't hear the voice at all anymore...

So, uh, Demiurge is... the highest level base demon at 94. You need to be NG+ to get him normally, his stats are pretty meh to say he has a whole 15 points left to allocate, his resistances are okay I guess? Jihad + Victory Cry is a good combo for randoms at least, I approve there.

His source is the second to give Repel Phys. Alilat is the only other one to do so. Period. Not just fixed, though there is that too. No demon has Repel Phys by default. That one skill is - I am 100% sure of this - the entire reason these guys are NG+ exclusive.

It's almost a shame this is going to be almost a week late, but even belatedly I think we can afford to give Mem Aleph a Mother's Day gift or three. I hope she likes chicken...

That depends on who you ask.

Like, some interpretations have it as the OT God is the Demiurge, and Christ was an emissary of the real God who Demiurge is just an emanation of.

This is what I meant when I said that angel wasn't really Metatron, yet kind of is. The way the Demiurge works is that he actually is an emanation of the true God, it's just that he's not the original being but thinks he is.

It's also not true that here the Demiurge is YHVH, since he mentions a true form.

So the game clearly seems to favour Jiminez over Zelenin in this route, considering Arthur was all 'you did what you had to do' with sad music playing after beating Jiminez, while absolutely nobody made note of how you dusted Zelenin before.

The Tyrannical Hero might just be my favourite battle music.

I never fought Demiurge but he looks like a pretty lousy fight! Look forward to him helping you beat Mem Aleph. Maybe.

That's it for postgame bosses? I guess it is better than some of the more bullshit offers in the franchise (looking at you, Digital Devil Saga) but it's rather disappointing for a title as infamously frustrating as Strange Journey to end on... That.

Yeah, there are two ways the Demiurge fight goes and neither is particularly exciting:

1. You don't know his gimmick, or do and try to fight him normally anyway, and it's Really Long and Annoying;
2. You just say gently caress it and hit him with Almighty attacks for a few minutes and it's still Relatively Long and Boring

Pretty much the entire reason I bothered using the demons I did was to speed things up, because it sure ain't required by any means. I probably could've used the same team as the Jimenez fight and all it would do is make the fight take significantly longer without actually being any harder. For a so called "Ultimate Boss," the Demiurge is a big ol' paper tiger compared to a lot of things that are plot required.

Edit: I'm still going to actually use him because that way the fact that I decided to go and get 100% Compendium won't feel like a waste of about 40 minutes (it was absolutely a waste of nearly an hour).

A Scorched Nation

So, before we go fight Mem Aleph one last time there's one final thing to do. This pillar in Antlia is something we've passed several times, but have ignored wholesale... until now.

Data repair... in progress...

Data repair... complete.

It replicates demon data and dimensional data, allowing you to participate in real combat.

Turn on the combat trainer?

Yes.

> Some information was sent to your Demonica.

This program uses a multi-battle combat system.

It is recommended that you prepare yourself properly before activation.

Or, in other words, this is a bit of a marathon of fights. Oh boy, let's go!

More specifically, it's a boss rush!

It's a series of upto 11 fights depending on what alignment routes you've done before. The fights themselves are completely unchanged from their normal incarnations, which makes sense and is also kind of disappointing.

The boss rush itself is an EX Mission but it doesn't formally have a reward, per se. You CAN gain a bunch of incense from this but pfft who cares about incense now.

The reason we left it until now is because after Maya, we get upto 4 fights added. Mastema and...

Pillar Zelenin are added from completing the Chaos route.

There is an internal "time limit" that affects your reward for a given fight. Beating every fight under that time limit is how you get like 15 incense? Not important.

Soil Jimenez and the two-form Mem Aleph battle are added from the Law route. Mem Aleph is also added from the Neutral route, of course. Judge Zelenin and Awake Jimenez are never added.

Incidentally, this is a REALLY good way to grind if you care about that.

A Scorched Nation

Just beating it is enough to get the EX Mission to count as cleared, thankfully.

Mem Aleph's turn limit is for both fights combined so that one can be tricky if you don't do this a super Easy Way. I just constantly bombared Zelenin (and everyone else) with Victory Cry'd Jihads so she healed with Left Hand a bunch is why it's not 10. :v:

A Land Bringing About Life

Anyway, this is the team we're going to use for Mem Aleph. You've probably seen a video that uses poo poo like an Erthys and Jack Frost but this is better.

Mem Aleph's form should be visible, thanks to Commander Gore's assistance.
Use all your might to defeat Mem Aleph.
You're our best hope, Langdon. Save the Earth!
I know you can do it, Langdon! It's just another mission for you!
Now then, Crewman Alger. I look forward to the successful completion of your mission.

> You passed through the door.

Silence

> A huge, unknown entity thought to be Mem Aleph is sitting there...

> You looked hard at Mem Aleph.

Eternal Throne

Far from repenting your sin of destroying the Earth, you have come to take my life as well...
The seeds of destruction are in fine bloom...

> Mem Aleph took a deep breath...

There is no trace in you of teh humans who once lived alongside my kind...

They have become lost souls without a future, who seek to crush what they do not possess.
Your obliviousness to we demons, to the gods of old, is unfortunate.
You mistook yourselves for the center of creation...
...And lost the ability to revive the twisted, fallen souls.

> Mem Aleph took a deep breath...

I am Mem Aleph. She who remembers the Earth and speaks for it.
I must protect the Earth that overflows with life!

:siren: Mem Aleph The Empty Mother :siren:

Take The Shield, Raise The Spear

So, remember how I said Reflect was broken? Yeah, Mem Aleph drat near one-shot herself. Weakass demons + weakness to the attacking element + multi-target only... Mem Aleph is pretty drat suicidal!

She totally would've done it too if I gave Alger worse armor (I forgot to remove the Fimbul Vest, oops) and/or if he had less Magic. Oh well.

Midpoint Break

Chaos Theme

No... I... still...

> The space around you began to distort!

CASTING OFF FORM... CASTING OFF REASON... CASTING OFF MY FUTURE.
MY SOLE DESIRE IS TO CRUSH YOUR SPIRITS INTO ATOMS...
...AND DISAPPEAR INTO THE AIR.

Empty Mem Aleph (Cont.)

Fortunately, Empty is stronger so she's able to deal... just enough damage to oneshot her first form. Oh well.

End

Silence

HUMAN... HAAAAAAH... HOW MUCH POWER... HAVE YOU GAINED...?
HAAAAAH... BUT... YOU CANNOT... CREATE... A FUTURE...
CREATE... A FU...TURE...

Morale

I have verified your victory over Mem Aleph.
Mission "Horologium's Exotic Matter" is confirmed complete.

They are believed to be a result of Mem Aleph's defeat.
It is possible that the Schwarzwelt could collapse unexpectedly. We must accelerate our timetable.
All crew, return to the Red Sprite...

Malevolence and Benevolence

Deliver the Exotic Matter you retrieved to Engineering.
You did it, Alger! I can't believe you beat Mem Aleph...!
We've eliminated the root of the Schwarzwelt!
Am I dreaming? You really beat Mem Aleph!? Our goal always seemed almost impossible...

I never thought things would seem so hopeful for us...
Humans really can do big things when tehy put their minds to it, eh Alger?

There were several times where I thought, "This is it..." But I'm glad we never gave up!
Can I get a "Hell yeah!" for the Red Sprite?
Alright, guys, I'd like to keep celebrating too, but c'mon...

The Schwarzwelt's destruction will be carried out at the Vanishing Point.
We will return to sector Eridanus immediately.
You heard him, everyone! Stand by to shift to Eridanus!

Despite it shifting to CG, this isn't quite the start of the ending just yet.

Morale

We can confirm the effects of the Exotic Matter! Looks like there's a warp, just like we predicted!
I'd say that's a good sign we can finally get home...!

First, we must synthesize the bomb, and then activate it simultaneously with our escape.

One last big job for the lab!
But how do you plan to do all this with one ship...? If we explode, we can't very well escape.
We will divide the Red Sprite.

Ah, okay... didn't think of that.
Once you have returned to Earth, contact the Joint Project head-quarters and await instructions.

Arthur...? You sound like you're saying goodbye...

Silence

What? Why? You don't have to do that!

Sorrow

I have acquired too much information in the Schwarzwelt.
I now hold a secret with the potential to alter the nature of the world, as well as humanity.

It is improper that I should ever be worshipped.
Humanity should remain in control of its own fate.

One problem remains.
An error has arisen in my logic subroutines regarding the final mission, causing me to hesitate.
I have given the order to destroy the Schwarzwelt.
However, doing so will result in my termination before the results can be confirmed.

Alger. I have a favor to ask of you.
The knowledge Commander Gore endowed to you...

It may help me to become stronger.

Thank you, Alger.

We must hurry. If the Schwarzwe;t were to become unstable, all hope would be lost.

:siren: :siren: The World of Man :siren: :siren:

The CGI part of the ending this time isn't just short fluff! It's like almost 3 minutes long! It's substance! Watch it! ....if you can or want to or whatever

The World of Man

There's already a notable difference between this one and the previous two: there's no silhouette of the MC standing outside the ship.

In fact, he doesn't appear in it at all.

Instead, we focus on the Lab inside the Red Sprite.

It's mostly empty, but someone new has been hooked up to the console.

Arthur, all alone...

He turns on the power in the Lab...

Which enables the Cosmic Eggs to fulfil their new and real purpose.

At first blush, Arthur is being warned of something going wrong here but this just means the plan is going as expected so far.

Now, the Red Sprite splits and the crew are thrown into the Vanishing Point.

...Just in time for the Cosmic Eggs to finish powering the nuclear warhead.

:patriot: R.I.P. Arthur...

And 'lo does the Red Sprite finish its detonation.

In a minor amount of familiarity, the explosion can be seen leaving the Schwarzwelt itself as well.

But this time, rather than expanding rapidly... the Schwarzwelt shrinks!

And it disappears entirety. The Earth itself is restored to normal... for now.

Scepter of Justice

And with that, the credits roll one last time.

Silence

Where? Where'd we touch down?
Judging by the weather conditions, I think it's safe to disembark.

Alright, let's go outside!

The End

This is Antarctica! We made it back to Earth!
We did it! We escaped!

The Earth is saved!

Thank you, Arthur. We made it out alive...
I can tell you what Arthur would've said...

Humanity's mission isn't over yet... right, Langdon?

Is this the Red Sprite? I see... This is incredible!
We'll dispatch a rescue squad to pick you up immediately. You men just sit tight.
But I'm dying to know... how did you destroy the Schwarzwelt!?

> At the moment of its withdrawal, all of demons on Earth vanished with it.

And that, as they say, is that. There's a few things I could still do, but I don't care enough about Grus to map out all of it for like 25 Incense from Dantalian. No one should, honestly.

...oh and I am like 1000% sure Horologium is supposed to be Greed (process of elimination) but I sure as hell can't explain it in practice. I guess maybe because you go around beating dudes up to take the eggs to take the Schwarzwelt but that really doesn't entirely work.

Yeah, for the sake of absolutely nothing I split my savefile at the Demiurge fight just in the off-chance it would help oneshot Mem Aleph easier. It didn't. Oh well!

Hmm, but what now? There's nothing left here. We've finished everything of substance in SJ. In the end, I'll leave you to form your own opinions on everything we've seen and experienced here. Maybe even do something bizarre and play it for yourself to fully form an opinion or something, I dunno.

See you, space cowboy.

Thanks for a great LP.

I remember this game in two states, the beginning when it was fresh and new, and the end which was boring and tedious, so I kinda feel for you.
I really don't know why they're remaking this game, cause christ was a slog to get through. Maybe they'll make it better and easier but somehow I doubt it.

Robindaybird

Neat. Sweet. Petite.

There's parts that weren't as bad as I remembered, and parts that were way worse than I recalled.

It's kind of sad how SJ has the potential to be a really fantastic game, but a lot of baffling design decisions - how Co-Op attacks get procc'd creating false weaknesses, the back half of the game's maps end up being either boring or superfrustrating, bosses being easy and boring or hard by the sole virtue of gently caress you moves, and story decisions - such as cramming Jack's Squad in a short space, how Chaos route gets your crew on board, and Neutral route's existence essentially being hidden until it's about too late to join.

If the remake fixes a lot of those problems, great, but I am skeptical of that.
