It relies mostly on copious amounts of jump scares. It was fun as an experience because my partner is susceptible to jump scares. As a game it was ok. The survival horror aspect of it was hard to get into because your gun is an unlimited ammo machine gun. It was also expensive at the place we were at. $2 a play  Anyone else seen or played it?

I want to get the collection because I liked 1 and 2, and I'm eager to play Off The Record. Every time I think about re-playing 1, I get flashbacks of the prisoners driving around the courtyard and then I don't want to play it any more. Most of the psychos were kind of low points in the game, appreciated because they broke the monotony and they were rarely mandatory, but they could lock down an area by making it a boss room. Like if I were guiding some survivors back and low on weapons, then I turn a corner and suddenly I'm dealing with a crazy clown and a ticking clock and inventory problems. It's offset a little with the New Game+ features, so you can avoid psychos the first run and then deal with them when you have more health and item slots, but I don't think they're ever as fun as the wanton death of zombies.

Do all the psychos kill themselves? I seem to remember that the main characters always seem to walk away from those encounters with clean hands because the bad guy winds up hoisted by his or her own petard.

Good morning, chat. I picked up Fallout 4 because it was on sale on Amazon for $18. Physical copy only but it came with a Steam code. Amazon digital was still full price, lol. Didn't bother with any DLC. I'll get the season pass if it ever goes on sale. None of it looks particularly appealing.

It plays the best out of the "new" Fallouts but it's kinda bland. It's not as bad as some would have you believe. I'm enjoying it. I'd like to see Obsidian take another swing at Fallout again but who knows if that will happen.

I've never finished a Fallout game, not even NV, which I recognized was very good from the 10 or so hours that I played of it. The problem is that I'm ultimately a FPS(/RTS) guy and when a game goes cross-genre but has unsatisfying shooting elements, it stands out more for me than otherwise. Like, the Witcher games' combat may not be the best but I just don't notice it as much since it's not my preferred genre. Usually what happens is that I'll install FO3/NV, throw on a few mods and then quickly want to reinstall STALKER instead.

I hear FO4 has better gunplay though, which is why I kind of want to play it even if everyone`s so down on a lot of it`s other design choices.

The gunplay is a lot better. Enemies react better to getting hit like you can shoot body parts off feral ghouls. There's a hit marker now and it seems insignificant but it adds to that feeling of doing damage to whatever you're shooting at. Also they got rid of weapon and armor degradation with the exception of power armor. Another thing is that characters emote during conversations now and the PC has a voice now.

I kept my expectations low when the game was announced and kept my hype levels in check. I guess that's why I'm not so down on it.

Edit:

Rafza posted:

I really like Fallout4. It's my favourite Fallout game because the gunplay is awesome and the over arching story has never been the reason I play Bethesda games. I enjoy all the extra world added inbetween the fragments of the tale.

I must also admit that I only play Bethesda games when they are heavily modded, so this does give me a very favourable skew to them. I am thinking about reinstalling Skyrim till the FO4 season pass goes on Sale and I can start again with all the extras.

Mod guns into Skyrim.

I usually play through a game vanilla first, then if I like it enough, I'll play with mods mostly because the Gamebryo (Fallouts 3, New Vegas, 4, Skyrim, etc.) can be buggy enough on their own.
