I'm doing something different so I'd appreciate if anyone can tell me if it's either terrible quality or if I'm terminally boring~

Find Your Fortune And Change The Past When You ENTER THE GUNGEON!

What?
Enter The Gungeon is a roguelike that came out around April 2016 and it's a lot of fun. There's about 200 guns and 200 items, and most of them are puns on guns. It's an odd mix of bullet hell and dungeon crawler that offers a lot of replay value. I'm 150 hours in and I'm still not over it. There's some free DLC coming out SOON(tm) called the Supply Drop update but they've been saying "fall" since the end of fall soooo. At some point I'll be seeing new things too!

Why?
The game is a bit difficult and I've seen rumblings here and there on folks looking for something that may be more informational, or help them with their Gungeon aspirations. My goal with this will be hopefully to help people get good! To that end, commentary is going to be largely informative stream of consciousness over the course of a fresh playthrough. That being said, if there's something going on that you're not sure about or need explained or want to figure out how/why I'm doing something, ask away! It will be addressed!

How?
I've usually got a pretty good update schedule but a full run will usually take around an hour, so each video will likely be about that long. It's a bit more time intensive as far as audio editing and I've got more social obligations than usual so I'M GONNA BE BUSY. I'd expect at least two videos a week, ideally. I'll be going through all of the characters and getting to secret stuff as it arises. And it will! After I do the four basic characters I might start a vote to show which character people want to see run next?

Just off the bat, an hour per update is really, really long in my opinion. Cutting them down to smaller pieces make them easier to both watch and edit.
It's not wrong but it's difficult to find places to cut it. I expect to just do straight runthroughs which hey, if the video is short I guess I died during that run! My biggest concern with videos of that length is if my droning is too much. I might split the first few runs up into a few different floors? Possibly edit out backtracking and loading screens but that wouldn't add up to much I don't think.

I wouldn't do that on purpose but I would definitely cut that into two videos.

I'd appreciate any feedback on this, I'm planning on doing a fully subtitled LP and it's my first time doing that. If it's too intrusive, not intrusive enough, etc.

It is Brutale because...the master thought it more exotic. Let's Play The Sexy Brutale!

What is this?
The Sexy Brutale is a bit of a murder mystery game that came out in April 2017. It runs a little chunky in spots, maybe not the best optimization, but it is rather charming! Playing as somewhat of a mix between Ghost Trick and Majora's Mask, the game follows the fate of ten guests at the titular casino during the annual masquerade ball. Things don't seem quite right however, what with the staff killing off the guests and all. Over the course of 12 repeating hours, we'll discover the truth behind the murders and the Full-House Staff, and hopefully save a few lives along the way. What has happened at the Sexy Brutale? Who is the bloodied woman? And where is the Marquis in all this?

Since this game is extremely story based and there's a lot going on, I'm planning on doing a subtitled LP. I'll try to keep my commentary minimal to explain things and otherwise let the game speak for itself. It's my first time going about that so if anything is unclear or needs fixing, please let me know. Generally I'll be following the victim(s) around to show their movements. Then I'll follow the murderer to see how they've done it. Finally we'll figure out how to prevent their untimely demise.

The game is not very long but it is extremely story based. :siren:Don't spoil anything if you know what's coming up.:siren:

So I've run into a unique issue. Well. Probably not that unique.

I got a copyright dispute on this video. Not a strike, just a dispute. Videomite is a Turkish company and the channel Geekyapar // OYUN is a Turkish gaming channel which oh gee whiz just happened to put out an Arkham City video with this exact scene a few days ago. I feel pretty confident in saying neither of these fuckers has any legal grounding for this claim. Do I just toss out a dispute on fair use or do I join the pantheon of people who are just getting hosed by youtube?

Anyway here's an actual sandcastle post. It's been a year since I did solo post-commentary and it feels weird. Please tell me if it's bad. It feels kinda rough to me!

You Only Let's Play Twice (No One Lives Forever 2)

No One Lives Forever 2: A Spy In H.A.R.M.'s Way is a really good game! The sequel to The Operative, the humor has changed, the gameplay has largely improved, the gunplay has improved, the graphics have definitely improved, and all over it's an extremely solid experience. The game kicks off fairly shortly after the conclusion of No One Lives Forever 1. H.A.R.M. is resurgent due to the events of Contract: J.A.C.K. which is a bad game I'll talk about here and there but otherwise ignore. Cate Archer, our brave heroine, continues to foil international plots and look kickin' rad while doing it.

As before I'm not super familiar with this game but I'm confident most of it will shake out well. These games do remain in rights limbo so unless you've got a physical copy you won't have much (legal) chance of playing it. But as always, please enjoy, and let me know if I can make any improvements.

I'm considering sticking to the gimmick for the thread, too. Which would mean updates are just a hand-written journal page that link to the videos and no other preamble or information about the game. But maybe it would be better for the thread to give viewers a little more info on what's going on here. I welcome opinions on the matter.

So I tried watching the video but I bounced off it. I started skipping through and realized I wasn't paying attention. I'd chalk that up in part to me doing something that I only had half attention on the video, part in that I've never seen the game. That could all just be me but it didn't work. It might be better if the videos were shorter, 43min is a long time to demand attention for a narrative VLP.

I do like the idea for thread updates being in the hand-written note form. If you are attached to the narrative format, I'd say thread notes would be the place to do it for more of a hybrid VLP. But that's just like, my opinion. Man. If you feel strongly about the narrative VLP, go for it. I'd still err on shorter videos though.

Plane Lee's Climb to Dignity

Jet Li's Rise To Honor is a 2004 PS2 beat 'em up with a unique control style. All your face buttons are useless, hope you like your analog sticks and shoulder buttons! The gameplay is a bit simple but it's alright! The difficulty curves and lack of enemy distinction cause some frustration and some of the game mechanics are poorly implemented, but hey, I'll try to avoid getting too negative. I've played through recently so I'll manage! It's a fairly short kung fu adventure romp that tries to play like a movie. It kinda works! Plus I mean kicking people in the face never gets old???

Jet Li plays our hero, Kit Yun, a bodyguard/enforcer for a Hong Kong crime boss named Chiang. Events transpire that will take him from the waters of Hong Kong to the sunny shores of San Francisco, and then back again for a roaring finale! So please join me as we RISE TO HONOR!

So, I've been doing setup for a Let's Play of Puyo Puyo Tetris (god, has that been an adventure), and I've just finished the first update.

Here are the test posts for the OP and the first update.

My main questions are as follows.
  1. Have I made any mistakes? I got caught off guard by the 900px limit and had to rush to create a new set of screenshots obeying it. (In fact, is that even documented anywhere? I wish I had known about that before I had made the portraits.) So if you see any typos, bad formatting, stray pixels on a portrait, off-colored screenshots, etc. could you point them out to me?
  2. Does my commentary work for the game? My parents say I have a good sense of humor, but they're in their fifties, and even with them I have a habit of making convoluted and obscure jokes. So I took the 'throw everything at a wall and see what sticks' approach to humor. If I made a joke I shouldn't have, spectacularly failed at humor at some point in a way that impacted the quality of the update, or conversely you actually laughed at some part of my commentary.
  3. Does the format I have for the updates work, or does it need a rework?
  4. Were you feeling lost at points during the update? I want this to be humorous but informative, and losing readers would hurt both objectives.
This is my first LP, and I really want to do this game justice, so I want feedback.

I feel I won't have done it justice if I produce a subpar LP, and I know from my coding experience that problems could be staring me right in the face and I would fail to see them, so please tell me what worked and what didn't.

So I've been recording a Kerbal Space Program Let's Play for a while (I posted about this a while ago) and am looking to start editing the footage and add in post-commentary since much of the LP will have fast forwarding and jumpcuts due to the nature of the game. However, I'm not really sure how and when to properly employ these in a way that doesn't completely destroy the flow of things yet also speeds things along enough to not make it a boring watch, since KSP career mode consists of doing a LOT of the same things over and over. Is there some sort of guide to this sort of thing, or should I just go by feel?

Edits are all by feel. If it's a repetitive action, you might show the action twice, maybe a third/fourth time if there's a different way of doing it. Otherwise saying "I made x number of herrings for this" is probably fine.

Editing is still always better than no editing. It may take a while for you to find your flow in any given game though.

Thread Title: It Belongs In A Museum - Let's Play Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine

What the heck is this?
This "classic" of the early 3D action genre takes inspiration from the then successful Tomb Raider games and a slew of classic point and click adventure titles. Developed in house at Lucas Arts, they used a heavily modified version of the Sith Engine (Jedi Knight) to create an adventure game. There was also an N64 version and a Gameboy Color version. We are obviously playing the PC version, now available on GoG.

That Didn't Help Much, What's The Game About?
Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine picks up with Indy in 1947. The war has come to a close and work is back to normal for the wayward archeologist. Soon though he's embroiled in a plot between East and West in a race to recover the parts of the Infernal Machine and unlock a power the could turn the tide of the Cold War.

Sounds Fun, What's The Catch?
This game has it's issues. Where Jedi Knight was fast and fluid, Infernal Machine is stodgy and clumsy. It's nit-picky about picking up objects and using ladders. You'll throw yourself off a cliff more than a few times. You have no control of the camera, and it does not always play nice. This game has a cheat that gets you unstuck from walls, which I've had to use several times.

So Why Are You Playng This Nightmare Of Late 90s 3D Design?
Well, what you get, once you figure out what you're doing, is a master craft of level design. Tomb Raider ain't got nothing on some of these levels, nothing in the modern age comes close. The whole level is the puzzle, as opposed to just being a tiny bit of a level. Once you figure out some controls that work for you and the rhythm of the game something about it just clicks. I played through it over the course of a few weeks and quickly fell in love.

Wait, Who The Hell Are You?
My name is Zushio. I play games from across the ages. I'm a longtime watcher first time poster. I plan on having these videos out as fast as I can make them for now, but that may slow down as work picks up.

Videos

Your audio balance was completely off at around 4:55, voice audio was covered almost entirely by the sound of rushing water.

I didn't see much else that was entirely off. As far as commentary there's nothing particularly wrong with it. This game might be one that lends itself to "less is more" though. With as much quiet or ambient noise as there is in the world, letting it speak for itself might also be a method. Your call though!

I plan to put bios/information of interest in a second post. I know some links in the youtube description are wrong but I can't update those until I have threads :v

What?
Mad Max is an open world game in the vein of Just Cause (same developers), but with a bigger focus on vehicular combat and some Batman: Arkham style ground combat. It's a bit overstuffed with content and a fair amount of it is padding, but it's still worth seeing! The game is a loose to non-canonical tie in to Mad Max: Fury Road, and it takes a lot of influences and universe building based the universe fleshed out in that movie. George Miller was even involved in pre-production consulting!

How?
The game is far too stuffed with content to be a 100% play through, but I've got a good track record with open world games with an awful lot of content. I'll at least be completing the main storyline, do a fair amount of side content, and there's a good chance I'll reduce threat level in all areas to 0. I will not be doing all the various challenges through the game, I don't plan on touching post-game content, and getting all the history relics and death races completed is gonna be a nope from me. While doing some area cleanups I tentatively plan to make a quick overview of the various Mad Max movies, to give some context to what we find in various areas in the game. I'm afraid I don't have an awful lot planned for audience involved, although I will need your help at the end of the first video to pimp out our :krad: ride!

Six Degrees of OSHA Violations

Let's Play Descent

What is Descent?

Published in 1995 by Interplay, and developed by Parallax Software, Descent is perhaps the first truly free-movement shooter on the market. Other flight sims don't have the same degree of freedom, and it stands today as one of the hallmarks of good shooter gameplay. When I say you can go anywhere, I mean it. Up, down, left, right, forward, back, rolling, pitching and yawing? All six axis of movement are available.

This game can induce vertigo.

You, the player, are a person called Material Defender, hired by the Pan-Terran Mining Corporation (or PTMC) to eradicate a ... small infestation of robots in various mines around the Solar System. Apparently, there's a bug in the system, and it's up to you to scour each mine by detonating the core reactor in each mine - then escape the ensuing detonation

How do I play it?

Well, you have two options. The first is to purchase the game from either Steam or Good Old Games, and play it right out of the box. Or, you can do what I'm doing, and play it using the Descent: Rebirth engine, which optimizes it for higher-end machines, and I found it far easier to set up my Wingman Attack 2 Joystick through that than trying to configure DosBox and then the game itself to operate properly.

Because if you think I'm playing this game using just a Mouse and Keyboard - or just the keyboard, you have another thing coming.

The LP Itself

This will be a Video LP, with myself and whatever co-commentators I can scrounge up. I will be posting non-commentary and commentary videos side by side so you can enjoy or suffer through our silence as you see fit.

However! I am always on the lookout for more co-commentators. The more people I have on tap, the less stale the chatting gets. So if you're interested, PM me, or drop me a contact here in the thread. I tend towards Skype for my chatting needs, but I could whip up a Discord if needed.

Spoilers Policy
This game is over 20 years old. I don't mind minor spoilers, but things that are only explained in later games are verboten. Keep to this one, please, as I do have plans to do the other Descents later.

Wait, vertigo? You're kidding, right?

No. No I'm not.

Prepare for Descent, Material Defender

I can see how this would cause vertigo, yes.

I notice some screen freezing here and there for a second or two. Happened at about 9:30 and also earlier in the video. Not sure if there's anything you can do about it, but it's there. Might just be me!
