One thing that immediately stands out is that you talk over the dialogue, that's generally a bad thing, especially in a game where the voices are as quiet and hard to understand as HL. I'd also try to focus the commentary on what's going on right now - you'll have plenty of time to get to background of the game and its influence when nothing new is happening so it's better to give the audience some sense of what you're doing.

Hey folks, I'm aware this is kinda skirting on the borders of an interest check, but it's more of a case of "can this work" regarding the game; not fishing for potential popularity, just a question whether a thread like this can work with this particular game. Here's the deal: La-Mulana 2. I've managed to somehow bumble past the third boss and I'm lost with too many options; on the other hand the game is really entertaining and really loving unforgiving. I am thinking of doing a (semi- since I've played a bit of it) blind LP with the premise of "guide an idiot through this obtuse puzzle-platformer". The premise is that I post a live-commented video of me trying to progress and figure stuff out on my own (undoubtedly missing a lot of poo poo) and near the end ask for hints regarding the stuff I missed or directions to where to move next. Potential for participation and misdirection aplenty. Repeated fuckups and prolonged periods of nothing happening will be edited out. My real concern is whether the game can be possibly beaten that way given how crazy some of the puzzles in the first La-Mulana got - basically if this is a viable format for LPing this particular thing. Any thoughts?

The plan is to cut out long periods of nothing happening unless there are entertaining deaths or eureka moments; I would definitely be cutting out the trips to hot spring (oh god so many trips to the hot spring). Guess I will whip up a test and see how it goes, thanks for all the input. edit: Invoking Khad kinda worries me, though; somehow my memory blocked him out. Have you thought about trying subtitles? Mechanicus can get really repetitive, I honestly can't see too many people watching it commentary-less.

Speaking just for myself, I find it difficult to watch subtitled LPs of FPS games, as reading draws attention away from the action. I'd also consider making the episodes shorter for similar reasons - you gotta be sure either the game or your commentary is really engaging if you want someone to watch an hour's worth of subtitled VLP.

Maybe subtitles x voiced? Just a subtitled tag would be enough, I think - it fills in the rest of the blanks (i.e. that it's a solo VLP).

I've only ever done one proper LP and that ended with my hard drive stopping working so I kind of figured that was some kind of a signal. I'm here to appreciate the work of others now, thankful for the many hours of free entertainment.

Honestly, if you're doing an apologist LP of FFXIII, people are going to chime in anyway; IIRC the rather overwhelming consensus is that the game's story and writing is dogshit.

A lot of the screenshot text is really hard to read. While you're trascribing dialogue, stuff like the skill (weapon? upgrade?) tree is almost impossible to decipher. Might be just my non-4K monitor, though.
