I really liked these episodes:

Enrique Olvera (Pujol in Mexico City, Mexico)
Nancy Silverton (Mozza in Los Angeles, United States)

I couldn't finish any others.

Nancy Silverton is the only one I couldn't watch at all. Her food is so goddamn boring.

All the others were at least partially watchable.

Edit: actually I don't think I finished the Mallmann episode either. His food was not interesting at all.

I've started watching Ugly Delicious, and I'm glad I stuck through to the 2nd episode. Chang came across as a massive arsehole in the first episode, especially when tailing the poor Dominos guy. Him turning to the director and being all "Have you got enough? I'm not doing another loving delivery." made me really dislike him.

I mean, that's his shtick. I don't know how people are always astonished when he's being a dick or throws out hot takes. He's been like this for like a decade now. Maybe it's because I worked with chefs like him and they're never serious about any of it so it doesn't faze me at all.

Anyone been watching The Chef Show on Netflix with Jon Favreau and Roy Choi? Definitely my favorite food show on at the moment. Love the way this show is put together.

Watched the first two episodes, I enjoyed it so far.

Watched the first couple episodes of that last night. It's fine. It's good enough that we will probably finish the season, but it's not good porn so far.

There's piles of food but it's not like ugly delicious where it's just food shot after food shot.

In my mind, morning buns have a cinnamon sugar topping and usually are kinda crisp when you bite into em. Cinnamon buns/rolls are soft and have icing or cream cheese frosting.

Ok so I grew up in the 80s and 90s and Julia Child and Jacques Pépin taught me most of my basics on how to cook. My daughter wants to learn more basics but from instructional videos. I recommended looking up those but I realized a day or two later that they're kind of dated in some of their techniques, ingredients and plain old meals. Anyone you guys would recommend? I thought about Ramsay or Jamie Oliver but I wouldn't exactly say they're 100% geared towards the basics. Also yes I teach her how to cook she just super hates doing it in front of someone the first few times because she feels JUDGEMENT regardless of how encouraging I am but she's pretty anxiety ridden so I get it.

The guy is currently rebuilding his personal brand after being forced out of ATK because he was a colossally egotistical dickhead to everyone in front and behind the camera even though he helped start the brand. That's how much of a dick he was.

There's nothing wrong with Jacques' or Julia's basic techniques. You still break down a chicken or cut a pile of veg the same way as you did 30 years ago. Some of their recipes are a little old fashioned, and some of their ~~~ethnic~~~ inspired dishes are white as gently caress, but whatever.

Jacques' Fast Food My Way is a great series for actual home cooks because it's a lot of shortcuts and easy dishes you can whip up on a Thursday night when all you want to do is stuff something halfway delicious in your face and then suck down a bottle of bourbon.

Edit: his omelet video is still one of the best ways to teach someone how to make not terribly overcooked eggs.

He does that a lot. My favourite moment in the Chef show is when he’s making one thing (a sauce?) to put into another thing (another sauce?) and Favreau asks him if he could just combine them all at the start instead. Roy just completely shuts down for a couple of seconds like he’s never considered this.

lol yeah. I love Chef show and hope there's more coming again.
