this used to be said about C and if you gently caress up despite having safe pointers and managed memory maybe you shouldnt be programming ?

like is this guy totally stupid or does he just not think about the words coming out of his mouth, how can anyone say that the most anal retentive PL in general use "gives you rope"

protip: if you find yourself considering a visit to javaone know that it is a very different gig from WWDC, the developer sessions are all outsourced and underscheduled (there are gaps where you have nothing to do but wander around the vendor farm) and oracle exercises apparently no quality control over them

like the session i just got out of was on container orchestration and it was all the presenter banging commands into his terminal window without explanation, and then at the end he ran some containerized services on a raspberry pi cluster, well gee that's very clever but it's not what devs do for money

dont show how to do it on AWS, nobody would ever want to know how to do that for a job

do it on a cluster of things you bought at microcenter. all flapping around with USB hubs and poo poo plugged into the wall. Do that instead.
He did deploy some poo poo into google cloud but obviously he needed a big finish to use up the time he saved by giggling about each command instead of explaining it

The theme for this year's javaone was "how java ee 8 will finally make third party java service frameworks obsolete (when it's released)"

Also "java in the :yayclod:" which is funny because I remember Ellison giving a keynote about 7 years ago that started off "lol nobody even knows what the cloud is"

update: basically everyone who attended J1 from my office agrees it was a waste of time, in one case a presenter was scheduled an hour to speak and he let everyone out after half, guess he didn't have any clever hacks to show off ?
