The rover, which basically landed itself on mars, can self-drive so it can move around quicker because pilots don't have to watch out for any medium size rocks every 2 inches all day, has a helicopter on it, is carrying an experimental technology to take the O2 out of the atmosphere's CO2 and combine it with hydrogen from the soil to create rocket fuel on mars instead of having to carry enough fuel to get there and back, and is powered by radioactive decay, cost 2.7 billion dollars. A nice chunk of change. A pretty big expense. Except Texas cut state property taxes by more than that last year by reducing their rate by 4 cents. There is nothing to get mad at here. It's a scientific marvel accomplished by money you can get by asking the population for pennies.

I'll say this - The "Missile Defense Shield" aid to loving Israel, in the middle of largest and possibly quickest mass casualty event in one hundred years, rubbed me the wrong way. Every nominally defensive system becomes offensive when it is utilized to defend an aggressive force. There is no such thing as an inherently defensive technology or military system.
