For a time it was. Season 1 was an overnight sensation, but then seasons 2-5 are considered the worst ever because Matt and Trey put other people in charge of writing when they went off to do That's My Bush for a while. It's not often a show can go into a downward spiral and then make a full recovery.

I think Matt and Trey said that Randy only got more screentime as the show went on because they related more to him over the kids as they got older. Also half the side characters you saw in the first couple seasons have vanished, because unlike the Simpsons they have the sense to shitcan one-note characters once they've run their course instead of giving them backstories as an excuse to pad out episodes.

Race Realists posted:the whole "Cynical white internet nerd thinks he's above taking an actual stance on an issue" was cute and endearing in the 2000's and is still somewhat cute now when it doesn't involve things of actual consequence like, i dunno, the entirety of the 2016 election? As opposed to all those other elections in which people were generally chill about. Certainly nothing of consequence was happening in 2004.
