At the very least, new MacGyver makes those old Simpsons jokes relevant again.

Pitch really elevated itself with the 3rd episode after the first two decent but "sports movie"ish (complete with inspiration speeches) episodes.

I'd imagine that something like "Bull Durham: The Series" wouldn't be endearing to audiences. Good to see it evolve right off the bat (pun intended!).
