How does something like this happen? I mean I know we've had train engineers in the past talking about how their job is actually a little bit difficult but I thought that was mostly for freight. I was really under the impression that commuter trains were very nearly entirely automated with a dead man's switch in case anything goes super wrong.

I was there five minutes before it happened. Don't worry, I'm fine. My phone has been blowing up with calls/texts. Oddly enough, my parents have not called me, and they call me every time a train hits anything anywhere on earth.
