my life is depressing and hollow without hockey. the world cup of hockey and the preseason failed to fill my need for bad, angry coaches yelling at their players. they failed to satisfy my hunger for extremely uninformed hot takes by the lowest dregs of the media. 13 days until the glorious fancy cats take the ice and i am fulfilled once again

i think the penguins have played maybe 6 nhl players in total during the preseason so far, thanks world cup of hockey for making preseason even more unwatchable than usual

Not like teams hitting the earth and leaving a smouldering crater, but good and cool stuff to look forwards to? - What McDavid can do over a full season, obviously. - Can the Panthers continue to be for real? - Will Nashville be a kick rear end fire wagon team? I'd like to see what Carolina's young defense can do given there's gonna be a lot of Pittsburgh copycatting on that front. I'd like to see Dallas get further than the second round with this goaltending but I'd also like a winning lottery ticket. I'd like to see Toronto media's Babcock idol worship break & how he deals with it. I'd like to see if Rinne can find his groove in a system where he's not getting shelled like border France and if so, if Nashville can make a run at winning the Central. I'd like to see Keith & Seabrook not die off for another few years lalala I can't hear you, past statistics e: I'd like to see Therrien fired but that's everyone not actively rooting against Montreal

Keith seems to be sustaining or getting better at least. Also Campbell on that sweetheart contract is basically getting a #1 D for loving pennies unless everything falls apart for him this season, so there's that - and Hossa looked good in the World Cup so I suspect he'll have a bounce-back stats wise. All in all, another season where the Hawks are likely going to go hog-wild in the Western Conference.

Pretty sure every team in the Central got better, even Colorado (through subtraction, not addition, but it still counts). Sure am looking forward to another meat grinder season that will likely have some teams fighting for the playoffs right until the end. Pacific looks interesting. Arizona could do well, especially if the Ducks go full Carlyle.  Vancouver and Edmonton.Atlantic is 2 good teams, a bunch of average teams, and Therrien being propped up by Carey Price. Metro looks... like it really wont change much form last year?

I don't think the Blues got better, but they didn't get demonstrably worse. 2016-17 is a necessary retooling year, shedding some old guys and letting younger guys get their feet wet. Hopefully someone (like Rattie or Jaskin) can take a step forward and be a difference maker, even if it's just as a triggerman.

Flyers are playing some fuckos tonight but more importantly they're going to have this line: Konecny - Couturier - Voracek Tonight is pretty much where Konecny either does or doesn't make the team, I feel like They're also pairing Myers and Provorov together, which is interesting since it's the first prospect-only pairing on D that we've seen (other than maybe in the scrub games on monday??)
