"Yraine, really. No need to salt the earth with such words. To risk one's life in inquiry, for the sake of others no less, is no shameful feat." Angharad studies this cramped 'crawl space' with distrust; mild disgust, even. "I'd join in a mouse's heartbeat, Ethrielle! However, much as I enjoy the vanguard, some...difficulties pose themselves. Ahem, Lerissa, or anyone with a light really, if you might provide a good view of the interior I shall join you post-haste." It does strikes the eladrin as strange that such burly workers (with such a creatively dressed one among them to boot) could elude the search-craft of wolves and druids. She begins tapping her index finger and thumb together, humming scattered scraps of old spells, trying to pick up what vestiges of magic she can find. Angharad doesn't see anything at first. The terrain is undisturbed save for the tracks of druids and animals. Under cover of night, it might've been even harder to find what you're looking for. But there's...something, there. You're not quite sure what, but there's...a hint of bitter, in the back of your nose. Subtle. You've not sensed something specifically like this before, but you know that spells that hide and influence shadows often have similarly subtle vestiges. Likely, one among the troop used some sort of arcane or divine spell to cloak their presence; which might explain why the druids didn't find them. Contrasting sources of magic aren't always easily compatible. The rest of you, looking down the crawlspace, see very little. It's very dark inside. Throwing some light down the hole reveals that the crawlspace is actually very small - maybe three feet in length, five feet in diameter - but it opens up into a large, spacious hallway that leads further down, underground. Enough space for two or three of you to walk side by side, at least. The walls on either side are smooth; or at least they were, once upon a time. But now their stone is porous and worn, from ages of erosion - it should hold, though. You don't see any signs of collapse inside. But beyond the reach of light, there's impenetrable darkness. You'll definitely have to take some form of light with you in there, if you're gonna do anything at all inside.

Angharad tuts and shakes her head at the magic's acrid flavor. "So it's a shady sort of mage we're dealing with. Hm, no wonder they've tucked themselves into this old barrow." After some thought much of her previous hesitation disappears. She begins excitedly shuffling through the group's gear for sunrods, igniting three at once with a mighty flick. "A rather trivial puzzle all the same. Keep these close, friends. And- perhaps some linen-wrapped fallen branches for good measure." Hers is, naturally, bound to a small groove near the base of Gramd's giant head. Its inscriptions are soon cast in relief like a novelty lamp; Angharad nods at the effect with great satisfaction. Elanis declines taking a sunrod; he surely wouldn't be getting lost to his enemies carrying a bright, glowing stick! And besides, being an elf, he has some degree of vision in low-light environments anyway. "Well, let's get going guys! The longer we wait, the more danger they're in down there. What is there to be afraid of anyway? I'm sure we can handle anything in our way!" he says enthusiastically, grabbing Angharad by the arm and giving a slight tug to have her lead the way.

Alvena watches with a stoic expression as you begin to get on your knees and crawl. It doesn't really look like she has a lot of hope in your success, no matter how well she tries to hide it with a neutral face. You eventually make your way down the hole, a few nicks and scrapes thanks to the small space notwithstanding, and dust yourself off as you stand up. The sunrods cast enough light down the hallway to give you some idea of your surroundings. The walls of this...temple? tomb? You're not sure what it is, but the craftsmanship involved was obviously excellent, even by ancient elven standards. The marble, though cracked by roots and erosion in places, still holds firm even with the weight of what you guess has to be about eight feet of dirt on top of it, judging by the slope you entered on. There's a decorative band of script that runs along both walls, about breast-height for most of you, surrounded on either side by intricate patterns of golden filigree. The script is the same pre-modern elven as was on the entrance; some words are familiar, not having changed much in the course of time, but really understanding what is written would take a while, and at least a basic understanding of the ancient language. The hallway stretches out at least a few yards beyond the range of your light; you don't yet see the defining features of another entrance way to a room, or a fork in the path. You do see, a little ways ahead, two marble statues carved into the wall, made to look like they're clutching some sort of amulet in their hands. Like the walls, they have been worn down over time, and their facial features have mostly been obscured in the process.

"Grah." An unfortunately large chunk of granite on the forehead. "Blegha!" Soil falling into a visor. "TERAA!" An excess of effort heaved against a quarter-inch of sod, and a tottering burst into the crypt. Angharad roughly shakes herself off once the entry is made. Though the aroma of ancient riddles quells her mood a little bit, it's not quite enough. Her attempts at translation are nothing short of aggressive. "Meaningless sycophancy, probably some high-flown epitaph, and oh what an awful thing to write. What did tortoises ever do this elf? Such amateur nonameter as well.." She squints at the wall as she paces forwards, until unconsciously leaning on the worn-down statues in frustration. Arms firmly crossed, visor distinctly pointed away from any script. Elanis silently sets about looking for clues around the room in the light provided by the sunrods, checking the floor for footprints, looking over rubble and feeling around the walls for any secret catches (or caches!). He especially checks out the statues and examines the amulets they're holding, taking note of their shape and seeing if they pull off. Perception: 1d20+10 15

Elf-words are hardly Yraine's cup of tea. Or cup of horrible muddy water, considering the circumstances. But she concentrates really hard and tries to remember the snippets she learned in rear end in a top hat Noble School, as she secretly thinks of her academy education. History: 1d20+1 15

While Angharrad angrily stomps about (that sand really is rough, and coarse, and it gets everywhere), Yraine takes a more measured approach to the translation. As much as her education has given her, it's been a while since she's had to translate ancient elven, so it's not as fluid as she would've liked. But she gets the gist of it. This place is - or rather, was - a...repository? Archive? Something like that, a place to keep things, blessed by Labelas Enoreth, the Lord of the Continuum, one of the ancient elven gods. Inside is sealed a dangerous...artifact? Maybe a piece of art. What's more, it apparently contains...other things, which she's not quite sure how to translate, but which have apparently been placed here to protect the world from them. The blessing of Labelas keeps a seal (lock? plug?) on the archive, and this place should never be entered by those without, lest... and there her language skills fail Yraine, partially because of the difficulty, partially because some of the words are obscured thanks to some wear and tear in the walls. Elanis doesn't find much in the walls. Or the floor, for that matter. It's pretty much just a standard hallway. The statues are the same - exactly the same, if not for the teeth of time having created some differences. They represent an elf, that much is clear, though you cannot say whether it's a male or female. Though much of the face is lost, you can make out some sort of detail that suggests...an eyepatch? Kinda weird. The amulets are more carved marble, and simply part of the statue, though the detail on them reveals the symbol of a setting sun. You notice some specks of long-decayed paint, blues and greens, on the robes the statues were carved to wear. Perhaps more...worryingly?, however, was that the statues obviously had something else for the non-patched eye. There's a hole there, that's not simply historical decay. Somebody's pried something out there. Angharad's sunrod, thanks to her angry stomping forward, reveals some more of the hallway. You can see, coming up ahead, another curved archway like the one you came in through. And you can hear a voice. "Hello? Who's there...?" It's barely a whisper, like the person has trouble reaching their full volume - or perhaps is simply being cautious - but the hallway carries it clearly enough to all your ears.

Druids and ruins and crawling around; it's a bit like going to a temple, but with far less people. Lerissa wriggles behind the others, keeping her jacket pulled close to her. She emerges much less explosively then Angharad, rolling her shoulders and leaning back and forth on her legs. "Well, I certainly feel much more like an adventurer now." she says almost cheerily. When she hears a voice she leans forward. "Hello? Are you in need of assistance? We're here to help."

"Assistance...?" The whisper echoes the word back at you, but there's a puzzled quality to it, as if whoever's saying it is trying to recall the meaning of the word. "Yes. I'm stuck..." The voice trails off, almost sheepishly; but in the darkness, you can't really see anything. There's a brief pause, before another question comes, in the same whispered voice. "Who are you?" Elanis, Ethrielle, passive perception: You also hear something else. A shuffling of...feet? Multiple feet. Something is moving out there beyond the archway, and by the sounds of it, it's more than one. Your whispery friend might be in some very big trouble, if he.

"...you shouldn't be here.." Even as you enter the room, the voice remains at barely more than a whisper. Yraine and Angharad, charging into the room, spy the source; a pale elven man, dressed in a style of armor not seen for many aeons; but near the legs, his corporeal form gives way to almost translucent nothingness. He looks...lost, in a way, like he is trying to find the answer to an unknown question. "You do not bear the mark..." Beside the ghost, and all around the back of the room, more spectral forms appear; but these are hounds, snarling and growling at the sight of intruders. It seems to change the confused ghost's mood, as well, as he draws a bow and nocks an arrow, his face setting in determination. <"Begone, intruders, or death awaits you!"> he shouts in ancient Elven, the sudden raise in volume of his voice seeming to solidify himself and his canine companions. Looks like you're in for a fight! The room itself is bare, save for a deep pit in the center of the area that seems to have once been a fountain or well of sorts, though it has long since dried. The walls are adorned with various mosaics and etchings that perhaps reflect the purpose of this place, though you have no time to study it at the moment, as the largest of the hounds lets out a bark of defiance and charges forward. The canine disappears into thin air halfway through the sprint, but reappears near Yraine's side, the large maw attempting to close around her arm but finding no purchase on her armor. The Guard Hound phases up to Yraine and bites at her, but misses. She was not fast enough to rescue Elanis from the dog head-slamming him, but the one who tried to bite him while he was on the ground earned an arrow to the side for his trouble. Free from an exploded ghost dog, Lerissa turns to her foe; then decides to go and assist Angharad, as she is currently quite surrounded. With a running start, Lerissa attempts to jump all the way across the pit. But it is a bit poorly planned, and rather then gracefully flying she lands with her toes barely on the other edge of the pit closest to her and she barely rolls forward to avoid falling on her rear end into the pit. Doing her best to regain her composure from almost completely destroying any sense of capability, she turns her roll into a springing kick directly at the Elf Archer's face, her boots meeting his ghostly face in a torrent of fire as she swings herself back onto her feet in a shower of sparks.
