darkgray posted:18 isn't so bad. Both Bookworm and Re:Zero are over 10000 pages, which would fill 30+ volumes at the usual size. Although they're admittedly more pleasant to read. I read a lot of mahouka for the internet. 18 volumes is a war crime.

Zero no tsukaima didn't have a dead guy. It's a harem comedy where a kugiyama rie tsundere summons a Japanese guy to a fantasy world by accident.

Vol 1: Chapter 1-1. Zheng Zha (Zheng) always felt that he was dead in reality. Go to work, come home, eat meals, go to bed and wake up; he didn’t know where the meaning of his life lay. It was definitely not in that face of his fat supervisor, not in that white collar woman’s body that he met in the bar, and not in this steel and concrete forest – the modern city. Zheng felt he was rotting. Going to rot from the age of 24 til the end of his life, then become a part of the earth and leave behind a name. No, not even a name, since no one would remember him. No one would remember a little white collar. Whether he lived as a truly graceful person or just pretended to be one, he was just a tiny piece of this world. He wanted to change something. He wanted to have his meaning. ‘Want to know the meaning of life? Want to live… a real life?’ When he turned on his computer at work today, a message popped up. This was obviously some newbie hacker seeking attention. It would force you to download a virus, whichever option you choose. Zheng laughed at it and was about to close it. Yet, his heart skipped a beat when his hand touched the mouse. He paused. ‘Want to know the meaning of life? Want to live… a real life?’ Zheng felt a little lost. An indescribable force attracted him to put his finger on the mouse. Then he clicked on the YES button and lost consciousness.

So whats the smart phone for?

gimme the GOD drat candy posted:well, went through the gods are bastards. not terrible, though there were some parts that made me roll my eyes very emphatically. magic autistic cowboy shows up in every volume after his introduction and absolutely everyone he meets instantly loves and adores him. he is often completely irrelevant to whatever story is going on but he still gets pointlessly tossed in. i don't much care for incredibly blatant pet characters. then there is the weeaboo kingdom, but the less said about that the better. overall there is a whole lot of tumblr tokenism, where various rainbow characters are introduced like the author is going off a checklist rather than because they have any particular relevance to the story. I hope one day you are free from your urge to read bad books, or learn how to read them for the internet

nielsm posted:I hate the translations "ganbaru" usually bear. Is the "just appearing to make an effort is good enough" some cultural thing? Because that's what it appears like to me, and it feels really unnatural to read that. In English you never proudly proclaim you "will try", to be proud you will do it. "Do. Or do not. There is no try." People say they'll try to do something all the time, although a more natural translation would be "ill do my best"
