I read webnovels because im a giant nerd, and one that really likes the reincarnated as a monster perspective. Overlord got me into the genre and Kumoko showed how awesome it can be to get a different perspective.

anyone still reading tales of a careless demon

things in it are ramping up a bit again but the translation seems pretty god drat bad. the english seems ok but sometimes i cant make heads or toes of what actually happens in the chapter

like she was in the light into darkness organization or something, i had to read the comments to figure out that she was regrowing the hairs on bald nobles

lol at seoul station's necromancer. i've said before that it is dumb, trashy fun but the last few chapters were hilarious. it turns out that to win the war on terror, you just have skeletons kill all the bad guys in afghanistan including the head bad guy! thanks for the insight, korean wn.

What? This sounds amazing hah. Guess i'll have to read this.

Ok i read all of Seoul Station Necromancer and that was pretty entertaining. It starts off pretty slow, and is indeed dumb and trashy but still very entertaining, especially when it gets rolling later. One of the most entertaining parts is how much of an rear end in a top hat he used to be in the other world.

Also, he starts out strong, but not as a level100 god like in Overlord. There is some definite progression going throughout the series. Also where Overlord is just about the lich and his evil as gently caress NPC's conquering the world, this is way more about him regaining his skills. This way he actually feels way more like a necromancer to.

So yeah overall its probably better then Overlord. Overlord has some good chapters but theres a lot of mediocre boring poo poo in the middle.

Because kumoko hasnt gotten a new chapter in ages i started looking at more WN's because i needed my Non Human Protagonist Fix.

So i started reading The Experimental Log of the Crazy Lich

It's about a Undead Lich which is trying to do good. Of course he is a reincarnator from earth, but instead of him being blessed by the system, the system seems to actively hate him and trick him.

And i'm loving it, it's really funny. There is a lot of good humor in this. Also the way how the protagonist takes care of his problems is really good. Mostly done without fighting even. There are some good fights to but this isn't what the series focuses on. The Law is actually a gigantic part of this WN. But i won't spoil any more on that.

The setting is great to. It's basically a DND setting. The story starts out in a very special city in the Underdark. All of the races and some of the gods are pulled straight out of DND to. It is its own world though with its own pantheon of gods.

Yeah it is yet another WN with a necromancer as the protagonist, but its so much different then overlord and seoul station, and so far better then em both. I could see this becoming an anime one day.

It seems like the Kumoko author is busy writing the good parts of Kumoko again, instead of continuing the WN version.
Volume 4 of the novel version was almost completely new content, and while volume 5 seems to be back on track so far, it's still all new text instead of just a slightly edited version of the web release.

Are these LN's even available in english?

Yeah translation is out and finished. I just finished reading it and, it was kinda meh. It's all about showing how the Roble Holy Kingdom is dealing with jadalbaoth invading so theres lot of focus on paladins and such. Also, its mostly all buildup until the next book.

One big note though:
At the bottom of one of the translated chapters there is a link to a "intermission" chapter. This chapter is not canon! It's porn written by the translator nigel. And not just any porn, its rape-porn. :nms: :suicide: I suggest skipping it.

The translation for Seoul Station's Necromancer is done.

The ending, really, is pretty bad. Lots of things left open and not explained. Like what was that black armor thing they were fighting at the end, and how did it get resolved? I guess when woojin turned the VR earth into real earth it was gone? Also how the hell did woojin finally get that executioner weapon anyway, just by that weird force logout thing he did?

Anyway, the beginning of the webnovel was nice, but it kind of went to poo poo in the last 20% of it.

Webnovel.com is finally putting into action the use for the stones to try and get people to buy them by having premium chapters unlock with stones instead of a silly video.

I kinda like the system, you get the stones for free by a check in once per day, and get enough to skip ads on two chapters per day. Recently i have re-read ELCL using the app on my android phone, and i banked up 500+ stones, since only the latest chapters require them to skip ads.

Anyway, still loving ELCL, it's my favorite webnovel after kumoko. Theres some great humour in that series.

I also read My MCV and Doomsday. The concept sounded intriguing, as instead of leveling up himself he levels up his minibus, but it turned to poo poo. He's leveling up himself now anyway and becoming a murderhobo that murders everyone that looks at him funny.

And recently i started Cultivation Chat Group which is indeed pretty interesting. I'm not all that far into it yet though. It's also my first story about cultivators so that helps i guess?

Anyway i guess webnovel.com 's approach is working because they got me in their claws and now if i want to read something new ill check their site since i got the big cache of stones there anyway.

The spirit stones remove ads, they arent required to read at all. Sure there annoying ads that take like 30 seconds, but its a small wait compared to a chapter. Also, the ads only show up on the most recent couple of chapters. If your reading the backlog you dont even need to pay spirit stones.

Lots of the demons got designs that we've never seen before. Balto looks a lot younger then i imagined. Also weird seeing ariel in that skimpy outfit, but that was her design from the books.

So apparently RTW just got wrapped in Chinese. The English translation is about 50 chapters behind, so I guess we'll see how it ends soonish. By the accounts I've read the ending feels somewhat hasty and slap-dash. MTL'd final message from the author.

In unrelated(?) news, apparently the government has been cracking down on webnovels for their novels. It's hard to tell what's going on if you don't speak Chinese, but it seems a number of novels has been removed from the internet, and some others got warning for such things as LGBT stuff, religious propaganda in form of writing about churches and, heh, writing about... fights. Again, hard to say what's true and what's not, but this doesn't bode well. Thread I found where people are discussing this.

I just hope this doesn't affect Cultivation Chat Group.

Holy hell its the webnovelpocalypse. Well at least the chinese webnovelpocalypse. The only ones i read are Cultivation Chat Group and Experimental Log of the Crazy Lich. Would be really awful to see ELCL go.
