I just read about its leveling system that seems pretty unique and like it could be fun but apparently the game lacked depth in a major way

the active battle system is cool too, but i think the N64's hardware couldn't support a lot of the big expectations they had, if i remember correctly

It is a game that when I play it, I know it is bad, but I just want to keep playing it.

It is an RPG that is a series of hallways.

your game is in trouble when you're pushing the marketing campaign as a positive

I know the specific trouble I had was you can't save the game without a peripheral memory card. But there were clearly other flaws too. I remember begging for bread at inns a lot...

i liked quest 64 as a kid tbh. it was really simplistic and the levelling system was pretty easy to exploit but you could see some good ideas in there that weren't executed well.

Arcades trade magazines have weird ones too where they boast about how many quarters it takes to clear their game or how they included a certain stage to gently caress people over.

The speed run of it is about the leveling system and the run is basically a joke where you do the same thing literally hundreds if not more than a thousand times. Iirc.

Peaches streamed it on April Fools day and people couldn't tell if it was a looping gif or him playing the game and if I remember right he was actually playing.

No, not at all. It's a completely different game. More like a suped-up sequel.

It's pretty good, nothing groundbreaking. The US version of the game was modified to be made completely unfair in that you can take basically four hits or fall down a pit and it's game over, but the Japanese version is a fine arcade game.
