Matchmaking quality will always depend on player population. Game just actually released today. Hoping it will improve as more people dip into multi.

Had a game of Guardian on Gridlock that was stalemated for like 6 minutes. Just trading kills and no one getting near the leader. I break off, grab frags and go on a suicide mission for their leader. Find him in their tower (by Boltok) and manage to stick him for a double kill. Leader dead. Run back to my spawn which is where our leader is and they are getting pushed by two enemies. Shotgun them both in the back and we clean up the rest. God I love Gears.

As long as you have at least 1 surviving teammate when the time expires, you respawn. Enemy team is on the same rules. You go until one team is eliminated. You end up getting a lot of natural swings between 2 v 5 and 5 v 2 usually. It's very fun and really gives you that last man out savior feeling if you pull off a crazy comeback, which isn't really possible anymore in TDM since you are usually 1 vs. 5 (with 3 respawns) or whatever.
