Coming back to this, I noticed something that was holding me down before: my LG TV input lag. For sheer coincidence I've played in a Samsumg this time and I was wiping the floor left and right with people asses. So, if you're on PS4, try to get a low input lag TV. It makes a HUGE difference.

Without the year 1 pass, the year 3 pass, or the matching fire expansion you're going to have to spend 15k steel per hero to unlock. Don't spend your steel on emotes or executions or whatever, at least not right away. If you have to spend some, buy champion status to increase your xp and loot drops. I think that playing through the campaign on the hardest difficulty setting gives you yet more steel, but i don't remember for certain since it was so long ago that i did it.

Watched some gameplay of it and ehhh really not impressed. They just have an infinite combo that you can feint almost of the attacks in. Nothing really interesting or unique about the move set at all.

The Hitokiri's infinite combo has unique properties for how to enter into it, how to sustain it and how to end it. You can open with a decently fast light or a Heavy opener that is uninterruptible. Both put you into a state where you can start your infinite heavy chain. All heavies (this includes heavies outside the state except for the dash) can be held down to vary timing. You can also charge the heavy fully which makes it unblockable/uninterruptible and exits the chain. You can also do a kick that links to a heavy and continues the chain, or charge that kick to do a sweep that links to the light opener. She also has a forward dash attack to catch rollers. All these charged moves can also be cancelled even after they reach full charge attack/sweep. You can also end the chain with an uninterruptible superior light. You can do this right after the the opening light for a safe-ish two hit. So after any given attack in the heavy chain, your opponent has to deal with the possibility of variable timings on the heavies including fullcharge super attacks, variably timed kicks and sweeps, superior lights enders, raw GBs, a dash attack that catches rolls, delayed GBs and deceptively late cancels into more moves. The best way to gain steel is the 2 daily orders that are usually just some variation of: play two games. Remember that matches vs AI and arcade quest matches count. I think those two are good for ~800 steel a day. Don’t use steel to buy gear packs until rep 3 on a character. Any earlier than that and you will probably unlock random gear after a match that is better than what you spent steel on. All characters can be used in the training mode, even before unlocked. So you can test them out before buying. You can turn off all the gay anime emote effects off in the options if you don’t want to have your screen exploding into fire or bats summoning evil mist or ice or whatever

lol it took me two days to learn via matchmaking that apparently Ubi lets people make swastikas on their emblems for some reason I knew that a game like this would be intense chud-bait from the getgo but I didn't think it'd be clear so fast.

I did report them. Since I'm still starting out all I have for my emblem is premade symbols so I didn't know how freeform it could get. otoh everyone I've gotten other than him has been great and I even got a couple friends which belies this game's reputation for having a toxic community. I've gotten bodied by every Centurion I've faced though and usually I'm left wondering what happened.

Once you figure him out he becomes free. He only has very limited offensive options and almost everything he does can be countered by a back dodge.

He can vary the timing on his unblockable, so play close attention or you'll eat a really punishing chain and not be able to do anything about it. 2. However, he cannot initiate the unblockable unless he hits you with a heavy. So just block if he's putting the heat on you. Blocking basically neuters Centurion aside from a few tricks. Try dodging and guardbreaking; on heavy attacks it should be free. 4. All Centurions are extremely cocky and usually very predictable because they're used to spamming cheesy moves to grind up helpless newbies. If they DO get their combo off on you, they will immediately go in for another attack as soon as they regain control. Take advantage of it to punish them. Centurion sucks when he's winning because it's basically just a cutscene, and he sucks when he's losing because there's very little the Cent player can do about it. Even Warden has a better toolkit now.

The shove is a chain starter now and lights are not chain broken on block, so you can shove, light, heavy unblockable real easy now, though that's likely to be punished hard I suppose.

He has an emote where he lays down and eats grapes, for Pete's sake. Of all the characters he's the one I'd expect to be the most into T-posing on people, so it's a shame he doesn't seem to be too interested in it in his emote. Maybe it's just too childish for him.

Got around to playing a couple rounds after a longer break, trying the new creepy axe lady. So far she actually seems both fun and good! She feels similar to Shugoki with lots of ways to get super armour and unblockables, plus a decent few mixups involving kicks and sweeps. Her main weakness seems to be opening up from neutral, but you can sort of circumvent that by missing on purpose, and in return the damage of some of those unblockables is insane. I also love how her feats are built around executions, and her level four feat attack is just dirty as gently caress and I love it: https://i.imgur.com/juBvIpH.mp4
