Of course, that meant as I kept rereading it, I understood and got more things. Which led to me reading the whole collection about 25 times.

What I ended up doing what actually looking up words in the dictionary after seeing them in Calvin and Hobbes. Which I think improved my vocabulary a lot at that age.

So the joke is that they’re pretending to be in America?

The Phoenix Wright games are translations of a Japanese series, set in Japan. (And which is a mild/occasionally biting critique of Japanese law practices in a humorous way.) For the English translation they localized the poo poo out of it because a lot of the humor relies on puns and silly names and such, and set it in America. The further the series gets the more blatant the plot and characters relying on extremely Japanese poo poo comes into play. (The last game for example had an entire case based around Rakugo theater and the one prior to that had an entire village based on Japanese yokai demon.) So the games have to bend further and further to cling to being Set In America despite this. (The Yokai village is entirely immigrants for example.)

Harry Potter didn't vanish off the face of the Earth after its release. It's still among the most read books for kids and young adults out there. Partially due to it just being so goddamn prolific that tons of people have copies they can give to their kids or whatever but it's not a case of a niche phenomena that suddenly vanished off the face of the Earth.

If it didn't have the "calories are not real" maybe

That isn't what it says though? "Counting calories does not guarantee weight loss" is accurate. You're not going to get healthy just by watching what you eat and if you're properly exercising and taking care of yourself then a single cookie isn't going to have any meaningful negative impact. You need to change all your lifestyle to properly lose weight, not just try to hit an arbitrary number.

(Well you can starve yourself to death and lose weight but uh, that is not something anyone should recommend and it will have negative impact on other parts of your body.)

YES. "Counting calories does not guarantee weight loss" is infuriating, as it literally does do that, as long as you are doing it correctly.
I went from 300 to 210 in a year from sticking to 1700 calories a day/exercise.

That "/exercise" doing a lot of work there.

If you starve yourself you will lose weight, but losing weight and getting healthy from it isn't just a case of 'stop eating." It isn't even necessarily effective to go on a crash diet over a more modest diet + actually exercising and doing other things.
